Natural/Syn Gut Hybrid

Does anyone have experience with nat/syn gut hybrid? All I hear is nat gut/poly setups and I wonder why?

Especially with Gosen OGSM crosses, they are fairly smooth and last forever with poly mains. I think syn gut can tame the power of natural gut and it goes dead without making stringbed harsh (just more underpowered). Plus syn gut makes the setup very economical if, of course, such hybrid has 10+ hours durability.

I've experimented with them in the hopes of getting a longer lasting, low friction hybird.

The problem is you get a little less spin and a lot more power compared to gut/poly. Result: shots tend to sail longer than gut/poly.

OTOH, if you tend to hit flat and enjoy the extra power you won't need to move your strings back into position. When I've tried TNT2 as a cross the stringbed stays neat since the gut mains slide pretty well over the TNT2 crosses.

You may also enjoy the greater pop of gut/syn gut so it might work for some people.

I don't mind extra pop for my low powered frames. If gut snaps back the way it does on smooth polys, then I'm more than happy to replace poly crosses with syn gut, unless durability becomes an issue. Even then, what good is 20+ hours for natural gut mains if poly crosses go dead in 5 hours max?

Upon further research, I can see how syn gut would not be near as sleek as some polys, to let natural gut slide freely.
Now, does natural gut / poly hybrid become so harsh and unplayable after poly goes dead (in like 5 hours)? Some people suggesting cutting out and replacing crosses, but is such drastic measure really needed?

Depends on which poly cross you use.
Some do not get harsh with age.
I do not recommend cutting out crosses only, but I do not condemn those who do. either.
