Navratilova calls for grunting to be banned

Is it me or does some of them scream AFTER they hit their shots?? WTF?? And to make it worse, it was after they hit a DROP shot!!!

almost as bad is the inconsistency of the grunting. kuznetsova will go games without grunting and then all of a sudden, start screaming after every shot. it's ridiculous. MN is right in that it does mask the sound of the ball. it's completely bushleague and makes the player look ridiculous and stupid.

Yea its hillarious, I remember watching Sharapova at last years FO, she did some very weak and easy closing point, and you hear scream...I mean COME ON...Grunting should be banned based on umpires common sense, some girls just abuse it.

These tennis boards are suppose to make sense? This is the internet. How do you know we are even human beings, let alone rational human beings? How do you know we are not monkeys banging away at the keyboard? How do you know we are not a bunch of retards? How do you know we are not a bunch of perverse old men trying bang some 18 year olds, like your beloved Berlusconi?

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

I think you'd be exhibit A for what you are proposing.

Sorry, this was low-hanging fruit.

I am a software developer, I can develop a device which can measure the noise of the grunt and signal the umpire automatically. Its not hard to develop it.

It masks the sound of the ball being hit for one. If you mask the sound of your ball being hit and your opponent does not, you do have an unfair advantage.

A lot of people use the word "annoying" and to audibly annoy your opponent falls under gamesmanship IMO.

No you don´t, your opponent can do it as well, so it puts it at equal terms.

I don´t mind gruting at all, I even like because it kinda shows that x player is giving his all to win. It shows will and determination to win

i watched the replay of the Kuznetsova/Stosur match on TTC today, and while i could hear the racket hit the ball, the grunts and screams were all but gone. dont know how they did it, but i highly approve.
