NB NX623 - good for reduced impact (less joint pain)

As many here know, I've been playing tennis in running shoes (Asics Gel Venture) for the past few years to reduce impact related joint pain. That was working well, but the life of these tend to be short on hard courts (rapid sole wear and collapse of sole under heel reduces cushioning).

My son got a new pair of New Balance NX 623 for his birthday that turned out to be too big for him, so I thought I'd try them (got him another pair that fit better). They are heavier than running shoes, but the support is much better, and the cushioning is just as good or better. The wear issues remain to be seen. I've had very little joint pain and faster recovery times playing tennis in these shoes, unless I play more than one singles match in a day (pounding still accumulates). I'm also happy to say that I've won two tournaments in them so far this year. Break-in was also fairly quick and painless.

I've played basketball in them a few times also on an indoor court with an engineered surface. Cushioning has proven good for this application also, but on humid days, these things tend to grip the floor a bit TOO WELL, leading to knee pain (from changes of direction torquing my knees). Really a nice shoe.

I may get a pair of black ones also to pass in situations where I need black leather shoes (business casual) but really prefer the comfort of tennis shoes. The white ones look great, but scream "tennis shoes."

Technically, the NB NX623 are trainers rather than tennis shoes, but who cares? Less pain means more playing time, and more playing time means more fun and greater performance. (My practice and playing time are both limited these days by joint pain.)
