NCAA Cancels all remaining winter and spring championships

sorry but this is just complete overkill!!!
This is really terrible for teams with mostly international students. Most universities will allow internationals to stay even if they evict everyone else. Maybe some will go home with teammates or classmates. I cant imagine being a parent in Europe or Asia now with a player stuck in the US with no testing available and news changing on the hour. Those of you who are tennis fans who support your local team offer to host an international player if you are under 60 and in good health or at least bring some guys or gals over for a meal.

I really feel for the ranked seniors who wont get a chance to play for their team or in the individuals.

It’s not.

If we as a nation succeed it’ll hopefully look like overkill in the rearview. If we failed to act quickly enough, we’ll be like Italy (having pathologists and orthopedic surgeons do their best to be ICU doctors, seeing who gets the next available ventilator) or Iran (digging mass grave trenches that can be seen with satellite imagery).

I hope we can look back in a few months and agree with you that we may have done too much to limit spread, but tough to tell for another couple weeks.

Agreed. Hopefully we can look back and say it was "too much" - but if we can say that then maybe the "too much" worked as intended.

hmm interesting, so lose some freedoms to allow "too much." Got it.
Sorry we will just be on opposite sides of this response. Disappointed for all the players especially the Seniors.

America is too obsessed with stupid definitions of freedom. Freedom to have assault weapons even if that leads to increased mass casualty events. Freedom to play / watch NCAA sports even if that makes the difference in having control of a pandemic (Japan, Singapore) vs losing total control of it (Iran, Italy).

Be on the opposite side of it and preach freedom. Complain about seniors losing half of a season of athletics (welcome to the world, kids, life isn’t always roses or fair). I’d rather have sensible policy that attempts to limit catastrophe, as someone in critical care at an academic health center already managing cases (fortunately, at this very moment, the ‘s’ is barely needed at the end of that last word, and those affected are getting all the care they need, not so in Italy).

again we will be on opposite sides but we all have our freedom of opinion. Take care of yourself and loves ones.

I feel really bad for seniors that will not be able to finish or to start the last season of their college careers but guess what, welcome to reality.

Those that I am concerned with are the elderly and folks with compromise health situation. How about hourly workers that supposed to get paid from the NCAA for march madness? Those people are living paycheck to paycheck. How about restaurant workers and Uber/Lyft drivers that are potentially exposed themselves to customers with COVID-19?

Once you see a bigger picture, it makes cancelling NCAA sports events the least important in the grand scheme of thing.

If any team get's it by default it should be USC for being the indoor champions and current number 1 team. But on a real note, this sucks. My seniors this year are heartbroken by this
they just beat OSU, one of the best teams in ncaa. Cardinal is by far the best team

Epidemiology experts expect the peak of Covid-19 to occur the end of April/ early-mid May based on evidence to date. This is why our older kids, who are both in college, are now home for the rest of the school year. Limiting contact and travel will help lessen it. That's the thought anyway.

OSU lost in the indoors to UNC by a larger margin. As I have also previously mentioned OSU is also an indoor team. Stanford also lost incredibly to TCU and Texas who they haven’t beat all season. They don’t even have the best win-loss record of active teams. They are not the best team in the country.

And OSU lost 4-0 to Georgia right before they lost 4-3 to Stanford. So Georgia is probably better. I’m love you nostra but the fanaticism is getting difficult for me to continue with.

OSU players were all sick as hell for a stretch where they lost like 3 or 4 matches in a row. The Georgia match they shouldnt have even bothered stepping on the court it was ugly.

Wasnt very indicative of much

OSU cancelled the 2/22 match with Notre Dame when players were sick. Also some players missed out on the Columbus Challenger 2/24 week but several did play. The GA/OSU match was 3/1-a week later. OSU players lost because they had not acclimated to playing outside, not because they still had the flu. The regular type A flu was going around Ohio- 3-4 day illness for students. Now the recovering guys would have practiced less the week before which would have had an impact. OSU lost their first two matches outside in 2019-just hard for teams who had been inside all winter to play their best the first time out vs top teams.

I agree, but I was just trying to use the same logic Nostra used

Oliver Crawford has turned pro - and so the window closes on UF for a men’s title with the current core group, unless they can bring in an equally big gun next year, which I doubt

Hmmm, now it would be interesting to know what the official medical diagnosis was for their illness. Whatever they had, was the diagnosis confirmed by testing?

Let me guess, diagnosis "general flu/virus". No clinical definition given to the pathogen.

Just to add to this, it wouldn't be OSU. Been told (by many sources) that another one of the 15 remaining schools wanted to pull out of team indoors due to illness, but the penalty would have wrecked their rankings, thus stayed in and got everybody else sick...

To be clear I don’t think they had anything to do with bringing covid19 here. I’m sure Mikej was joking. My guess is they may have had covid19. Don’t know but am curios if they were definitely diagnosed with whatever made them ill.
