NCAA college football 24-25

Traditional ACC powerhouse Cal upset Auburn this afternoon.

My father in law is a Cal grad and wasn’t even watching. He stopped by and I asked if he watched the Cal win. He said “Which D2 team did they beat?” Haha. Nice win over an SEC team. Welcome to the ACC!

Also, great to see Nebraska looking better. College football is better with them playing well.

Clemson went from 188 total yards of offense last week to 712 this week. Our offense hasn't looked like that since Trevor Lawrence left.

Looked much better against an always tough Appy St, Mikeler. My Hokies got a tough W after a terrible loss last week but UK got embarrassed at home against SC. Offense was just dreadful.

SEC has 6 of the top 7 spots in the new rankings. Bias or deserved?

Today, I agree with the top three rankings. Alabama was pretty poor for most of that game against USF.

Oklahoma struggled against U of Houston

Penn struggled against Bowling Green…the shouldn’t be in the top 10

Ole Miss, Tenn & Mizzo all looks strong.

The Michigan State rebuild is actually off to a decent start. Big road win yesterday as a sizable underdog. Chiles shows his youth often but is one of the more exciting QB's they've had in a long time.

It's tough to rank the teams accurately at the beginning of the season, especially when a lot of schools start out with an easy game or two before entering conference play. Yes, there are some arguments about rankings at the end of the year but they seem pretty good by the time you get to evaluate a whole season. Number 13 is not going to be happy barely missing out on the playoffs this year but those top few teams now are likely to beat whoever is number 12 anyways but that's why they play the games!

Yeah, early rankings aren't going to be super accurate. I think Alabama will be good, but shouldn't be 4. They struggled for 3 quarters against South Florida. Penn State and Oregon definitely look decent but vulnerable, not winning as easily as they should be. It'll be interesting to see how the season plays out with the new playoff format.

Looking like Georgia/Texas and then everybody else this year. Not convinced Ohio State's QB is that much better than McCord was lol. And Day is a gag artist until proven otherwise

Oregon could easily be 1-1 and honestly didn't look great against Idaho. Agree with FDP that Georgia and Texas look like the cream of the crop right now. Penn St is a paper tiger until they prove otherwise. Ole Miss has a solid team this year but just a brutal October to early November schedule:
10/5: at South Carolina
1012: at LSU
10/26: Oklahoma
11:2 at Arkansas (should win this one but you never know with an away SEC game)
11/9: Georgia

Texas has a very winnable schedule with the exception of back to back Oklahoma and Georgia but they do get the Dawgs at home. That should be a great game!

SEC is just so tough this year with addition of Oklahoma and Texas.

Yeah, and Texas dominating at Michigan will bolster all SEC teams in playoff discussions against the Big 10 later in the season. Yeah, USC beat LSU too, but Michigan is the defending champs and had a true home game.

And OU looked very shaky against Houston. I know you can throw all that out the window with the Red River Rivalry - but Texas should honestly paste em.

Every player entered the transfer portal this week, so every team will have a completely different roster next week

I’m a huge fan of that guy wearing a blue shirt this week. I didn’t like him when he was wearing a yellow shirt though

So, many of you know I played for Va Tech :) but that might be the worst overturned call I’ve ever seen. You can argue control but there’s no way the video ref saw anything incontrovertible that could overturn the call on the field. As if I needed anything else to make me hate Miami more. The most crooked program in college football history. Watching Grandpa Michael Irvin acting a fool on the sidelines makes me yearn for December when Georgia or Bama beats them 60-3.

How was that not called a TD lmao
Honestly don't see how it was called a TD in the first place. There has to be better footage though to overturn it.

That call was so close it had no business being overturned especially on the last play.

I do think the tide has shifted to letting all plays stand on the field and let review overturn it though. That's the new trend and I like that better than when they call plays dead.

Sorry Kevin, VT played so well. Hindsight is 20/20 but substitute the fake field goal try with a made field goal and that would have only put your guys down by 1 instead of 4. I actually thought the fake field goal try was a nice attempt to blow open the game.

I didn't think it was a catch live but if I had to make the call just based on the replay I "think" it wasn't a catch but I'm not 100% sure and you have to be 100% sure for an overturn. Just like a line call in tennis.

I feel much better about Clemson's chances if they meet Miami in the ACC Championship game. The Miami defense was not championship caliber.

Why do they have the coaches interviewed during the game on the sideline? The answers tell you nothing and clearly the coaches do not want to be doing it.

Yeah I would not have called it a catch on first look, and even replays kind of confirm it, but such a difficult call. So yes, they should not overrule it. But like I said earlier, they are letting more and more plays stand and then overturning them later, for good or bad.

I think the issue is the control is between two guys and the Miami guy is out of bounds which makes the play dead. By the time VT has full control the play was already dead. That is why I feel like they overturned it.

Even more to get 4 SEC teams in the playoffs. The way it's going, Texas, Alabama, Georgia, and Tennessee all have good chances to make it. If it's a blowout, it makes it harder for Georgia to get in unless they win out, which is far from guaranteed. And a loss to Georgia by Tennessee would mean they would likely have to beat Alabama to have a good chance at the playoffs. But with a tight game, Georgia still can afford another close loss and Tennessee *might* be able to afford losses to Alabama and Georgia if both games are close and they win everything else.

4 SEC teams is likely. Think about it. Texas could lose to Georgia. Georgia could beat Tennessee but Tennessee beats Bama. So many scenarios where 1 and 2 loss SEC teams can get in, especially if there only losses are to top 3 teams.

Vanderbilt might just beat Bama lol

This is why college football is better than the NFL. One team just beat number one and is current number one and one team is a nobody. This is good stuff.

Alabama, Tenn, Georgia, Ole Miss, and Mizz all have losses now. This essentially resets everyone to even. UT could lose to OU.

Good chance 6 SEC teams make the playoff lol

Yeah, it's going to make the rest of the season VERY interesting. Tennessee will have to beat either Alabama or Georgia now, when they probably would've made the playoffs just by playing decent games but losing to both previously. Alabama still has it's Georgia win so they're still likely to go. But it has really shaken things up, it'll be interesting to see how it plays out. I'm still holding out hope for my Vols, but I'm a LOT less confident. Bama and Georgia are both beatable, but Tennessee looked TERRIBLE yesterday.
