The NCAA singles, doubles selections are in.

Thanks for posting. For me it was a little hard following the new format this fall. More so, following a couple of my favorite teams that did not have their schedules accurately posted on their athletic website was a challenge. I'll figure it out in a year or two before the format goes back to the old spring schedule. LOL

Debating making the 90 minute trip to Waco for this, is there anyone you all think is a must see prospect ? I'm tempted to go just to see Banerjee from Stanford play.
This will be the weakest NCAA field since 2019 almost all players with bonus year due to CoVID are now out of eligibility. Additionally, some top players decided to take the fall off entirely.

That said, there are still plenty of great players who will be competing. On the men's side, two players I would watch are Dylan Dietrich and DK Suresh. Dietrich has the most pro potential/ready game while Suresh is the most talented. Colton Smith, Svajda, Zheng have more proven results, but I feel their ceiling is a lower.

Some other names to look out for on the men’s side: Gorzny, Miyoshi (Illinois) and Kim (Ohio State). Miyoshi just beat Pinnington at the Champaign Challenger.

And Zheng is the men's champ after being the finalist in the last edition a few months ago. Question now is whether he'll continue to play in college or turn pro. The last American champ, Quinn departed for the pros.

Pity Zheng won't get an automatic main draw wildcard to next year's USO.

Also think Baris is ready for the tour having made the semis and the final in the two individual tournaments held this year.

Congrats to Vidmanova on winning the women's tournament.

Off topic, my brother and I stayed in an AirBnb while in Waco for the singles, doubles championships and we were hoping to book the same place for the team championships. Apparently that's the same time as Baylor's Spring Commencement. We paid less than $200/night and now it's $1,100/night! Beware if you're planning on visiting Waco during that time.

Disappointing to see the thin crowd attending the men's final. Less than 100 folks and that's being generous. Regular season duals draw more than that.

Don't know what ESPN's thinking will be going forward.

I’ve been out of the loop for college tennis, when did they move the individual tournament to November?

Do you have the dates for the Team Championship? I can't seem to find it!

From the ITA website, the following have qualified for the ATP NextGen accelerator: Ozan Baris (Michigan State), Corey Craig (Florida State), Jay Friend (Arizona), Spencer Johnson (UCLA), Timo Legout (Texas), Lui Maxted (TCU), Dhakshineswar Suresh (Wake Forest), and Michael Zheng (Columbia).

If these guys retain a top 10 ranking through the Spring dual season they would be in line for MD wildcards to Challenger 50s and 75s next summer starting in July. The 11-20 ranked collegians at the end of the dual season would receive wildcards into the Challenger qualies.

Zheng’s fab Fall continues as he wins team gold for the US at the world college tennis championships. He’s creating history at Columbia. Personally would like to see him launch his pro career. He has nothing left to prove especially playing within the conference for the majority of the dual season. And it’s a very long shot for Columbia to win the team tournament if that’s his goal. He can’t carry them to the title.

I think last years team may have been a little better than this years and was their best shot to go really deep. Wild guess is he turns pro at the end of the summer all based on how those pro tournaments go. The fall individual championships give little reason for a player of his caliber and defending champion to take the fall off and come back for one last spring semester.

Agree. They still have a strong top four in Zheng, Hashimoto, Kotzen and Westphal but 5 & 6 are questionable. They can’t win against a Texas or Ohio State who are six deep and even carry a solid bench.

As for Zheng, there’s a window for him and it’s wide open right now. He needs to follow past champs like Quinn and Shelton. Like baseball, once you’ve mastered AAA you have to move up to the big leagues.
