Need advice: Soft, low powered poly that holds tension well

Tried...

-TF Black code
-SP Tornado
-TF Rough Code
-RPM Blast
-Lux Alu Fluoro
-Lux Adrenaline
-Genesis Black Magic
-Pro Line II
-MSV Focus Hex
-SP Hyperion
-Solinco Revolution
-Solinco Tour Bite
-Tourna Big Hitter Silver
-Tourna Big Hitter Blue
-Prince Beast
-Polyfibre Black Vemon

Any suggestions? Thanks!

Any of the ones you listed qualify?

I really liked Pro Line II but it lost wayyyy too much tension. I also really liked Tornado and Black Venom but both had too much power (i'm considering going down a gauge). I also liked RPM although I wish it was a tad softer

Also recommend SPPP. For me it fills the soft and good tension maintenance bit. I would say medium power. Probably still the best fit though that I can think of.

Soft, low power, & poly.

That is a tall order, but Scorpion is the closest (relative to "soft poly") that I've tried.

Soft polys will be the most pwerful polys. If you compare the energy return for polys you see that they are all almost the same, returning between 80 and 90%, depending on the string and tension. So the stiffness is much more important in predicting power (rebound speed). Soft copolys are less stiff, by definition, so they will be more powerful if strung at the same tension as a stiff poly like Alu. However, some soft and elastic copolys will play with less pop but also with less shock to the arm than a stiff poly if you string them at higher tension.

Thunderstrings work very well in the mid to high 40's. Metal has less power and softness compared to their black variants.

Certain polys get much softer and hold tension better when they are strung low, as in the 30's.

I like Tour Bite, but it is not what I would consider really low powered. But Big Hitter Blue (haven't tried the Rough version) would be a good choice.

Definitely soft enough and very low powered, even at 35 lb. And since the initial tension is low, the tension loss will be less and the strings will remain playable longer.

Any way you look at it, polys will not last as long as gut. At low tensions, they will feel like a syn gut and may remain playable as long as a multi. And Big Hitter Blue is really cheap, much cheaper than a decent multifilament string anyway. And if you're a hard hitter, then syn gut won't last more than an hour or two anyway before breaking. So price-wise, it's actually cheaper to string with poly and restring when it goes dead.

Give it a shot.

Yup Volkl Cyclone is very comfy espc the 18. Very elastic. Wescannon Silverstring is stiff but it doesnt play that way... not elastic like cyclone but still fine in a full be on a flexy players stick.

SPPP never struck me as low powered.

It's true. I would describe it as medium powered. I would say that I don't think the OPs request is really achievable i.e. soft, good tension holding and low power. For me SPPP is a good balance, not the softest but soft, great tension maintenance (for a poly) and not as high powered as most softer poly.

It's not going to be perfect but it's not had.

Big Hitter Blue that another person recommended would also be a good fit. I would say it's less soft that SPPP, tension maintenance is less good but the power is lower.

Between the two it's what weight you give to what aspect of the three criteria really. It's as much about whether you like the feel as anything else I think given the level of difference we are talking about

AverageJoe,

I just tried Head Ultra Tour for the first time (17g) because it came on a TGK 238.4 I picked up. I've been pretty impressed with it, especially how soft it is compared to other polys I've tried. I find good bite and control as well, and it seems to be holding the tension pretty well after the first 1-2 hour tension drop (it starts off pretty stiff).

I've got a full bed of Pro Hurricane Tour on my other MP, and a poly/synth hybrid on my YTPP, and the full bed of Ultra Tour is noticebly softer than any of these.

Don't know if you could consider it low powered though. Has more power than the Pro Hurricane Tour.
