Never played a usta tourney. Ive beaten 5.0's , ive lost to 2.5. Im the fat andy roddick of amateur tennis.

Im playing on joining usta and don't know if i should sign up for 3.5 or 4.0

I guess im asking, how do you sign up, the usta page is confusing and when or who decides if u move up or down.

Can i sign up for 3.5, then a month from now change my mind and play 4.0 and vice vera, thanks

never mind i guess, i just signed up, it didn't ask me if i wanted 3.5 or 4.0 so lost on that part

42 bucks to play 2 matches this saturday and 2 more in august,

yuck

If you only play tournaments you can play any level for that calendar year. At the end of the year you will get a rating with a " T" at the end of it. If you sign up for a league (not including flex) you will have to self rate.

Hows it possible to beat a legit 5.0 then lose to a 2.5, which is pretty much someone who cant even get the ball back over the net?

don't know what to tell you. Ive beat 6.0, semi pro, lost to even 2.0

I have extreme difficult time with someone hitting a slow to medium pace flat shot that is low, makes me bend over and hit up and i don't need to move to hit it.

Sometimes i hit them for clean winners, and others i hit it out over 5 feet or it feels like im hitting a bowling ball and hits the bottom of the net

Sorry to thread jack, but does that mean that if I've never self-rated before but plan on playing a USTA tourney that is broken down by NTRP, I can just sign up for whichever level I want without having to self-rate?

Yea, and I beat Serena Williams yesterday.

Yes- and if you think you are at the wrong level for that tourney you can sign up for a different level the next- higher or lower. Once you get your year end rating or if you self rate to join a team, then you can only play your level or higher.

So what should he do when he beats a 6.0 guy in his early match, then loses to the 2.5 guy later in the tourney?

i guess im the only one that finds it difficult to hit winners with slow shots that come straight back to your or bounce low

I never do this (troll) but how can I resist. You obviously should play 5.0 ... you won the 3.5 tourney where they are in fact USTA 5.0's ... unless of course JRB is correct and you actually stole the trophy :)

oh ok i see, our 3.5 is not a usta league but a local league. our 3.5 players play 5.0 usta. Our highest level is 4.0
