Need Some Advice

Hi guys, just looking for some strategic advice.

I'm 10 hrs (just about to start Day 3) into a match with the score at 59-59 in the 5th set. My opponent has aced me 95 times so far and doesn't look like he'll be stopping anytime soon. I broke the guy a couple of days ago, but it's been so long I forgot how I did it.

What strategy do you advise for trying to break serve in Game 119?

:)

Well, if I had a 10 foot wing span like you, then I'd try to chip n charge and make him come up with a pass. I know your volleys aren't that great but you've gotten better this year at net. Try stepping in on his serves a little to take some of his time away...you might get lucky and block off a winner.

Yesterday, I tried to just play until he dropped dead, but that almost backfired on me.

I might give the old chip 'n charge a try today.

Thanks

Ace 112 at 135 mph just now I see. You've got your work cut out for you. You keep getting him in a hole but he just diiiiigs his way back out.

Underhand serve, get into his head, it worked for Chang against Lendel. Good luck in your dubs, it's best 3 out of 5 too. Just hang tight to the net and let Querrey do most of the work.

I remember watching that match live and still remember that shot which at 15/30 was both a gutsy and desperate play. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KU2-jsRJRJE

I also remember how Chang creeped up to a foot or so behind the service line on one of Lendl's second serves in the 5th set, which he ended up double faulting on.

Well first of all, I know you're tired but you can't be whiffing on backhand shots.

Oh, and I'm sure your doubles partner is secretly hoping you save some energy for your doubles match.

...But I'm glad to see you finally got the win!

I think ya gotta try something new. The one thing you haven't tried is the chip and charge. Be patient (really, I'm serious!) -- you have been much closer to breaking him than he has been to breaking you.

If you are unable to break, however, please don't S&V three times in a row. You are holding easily by hitting good serves and better groundies than your opponent. Your opponent's passing shot isn't that great, but even a blind squirrel finds the occasional nut.

Good luck!

I would just keep playing normally (since it is basically working) and when I get a match point in the ad court, I would remember that he is going to go for an ace up the T and jump on it instead of standing flat footed and getting aced, again...
