Need some suggestions picking a new brand of tennis balls.

OldFedIsOld

Professional
I have been playing with Wilson US Open balls recently, but they don't last very long. I like how Dunlop balls play but they usually pop or the felt dies quickly. I like how Penn Championship balls have good felt durability, but hate how they go flat in a day. I was hoping if anyone can give me another brand that has the felt durability of Penn and the pressure maintenance of Dunlop.

Tried(don't want these):
Wilson US Open
Penn Championship
Wilson Hardcourt
Dunlop Extra-duty Hard court
Prince Tour

Pro Penn Marathons. They don't keep their bounce quite as long as last year's Pro Penns, but their felt durability and solid feel remain. I can usually get two matches out of a can.

I liked HEAD balls better than Penn and better than Dunlop, but they are becoming extinct in the US.

Next down, Dunlop Grand Prix have a very durable felt and keep their bounce for a very long time. They are the longest surving ball when used in a machine. Have not tried Penn Marathon, so cannot compare.

I'm liking the reviews on the Pro Penn Marathons, but I was wondering if Tretorn Micro X presureless balls would be better. I'm using them to just rally and serve with, not match play.

Sad to see that they aren't as good as the old Pro Penns.

It's like hitting rocks. Not quite a bad as Prince, but close. Hate how heavy they feel when you hit them.

I second this. You might as well play with pressureless balls if you want to use Penn ATP ones. I didn't find the same issue with the Prince Tour ones though.

The difference is marginal and only becomes apparent after a few weeks in the hopper. They retained their durable felt, which still does not fluff, and their solid, "heavy" feel.

ProPenn Marathon USPTA

ProPenn ( on can also is "Marathon"). The balls themselves are also marked "USPTA". These were available in our indoor tennis club. Case of 24 for $77.

I bought these balls because some of the usual balls were wearing out quickly for some of our USTA matches.

So I am about 6 cans into and ATP case, and am starting to have arm/tricep pain. I had thought it was because I have been demoing a bunch of raquets, but I have noticed how hard the balls are. Would you guys recommend I make the switch to Marathon or are they just as hard? I don't care about price because I would rather pay more and feel better.

I can't say about the Marathon balls. They wear well and feel more substantial to me than most balls.

I agree... head atp is great. I stock up some.. now left with only 2 tubes of 4...

Babolat All Court are nice balls. They are regular duty and will fluff up eventually. But it is a very soft ball. I am tempted to get a case of these when my Penn ATPs are gone.

I use these balls currently on clay but have not tried them out yet on a hard court.

i read through some threads saying that Penn had gone down in quality.
But here i read some of you think they're the best..

I also look for a perfect mixture of: durability, heaviness and softness.
I recently bought a case of Tretorn Serie A+,
And while they held up for quite long, they Feel too hollow and light.
any options? Oh, and only for hardcourt.

The new pro penns are definitely the best balls ive ever hit with. next in line for me are us opens.

Thanks. So you play on hardcourt?
And- can you put a link to which exact Penn balls you mean?
There are so many.

Yes, I have never played grass or clay, thus I have learned EVERYTHING I know on a hard court. Also, I'm not one of those guys that tosses a can away after every hitting session. I get the life out of all my tennis balls and I hit hard too :)

Here's the link you requested:

Just copy and paste it into your browser. I'm currently being a little bit technology ******** so I couldn't just do a regular post link. lol

The first time I ever opened a can of these, they came with a few demos that I ordered here on TW (it was a mistake on their part and I called customer service but they let me keep them ;) ) I was demoing a IG Prestige MP, IG Radical MP, and IG Extreme MP, along with a Bab Pure Storm GT. These balls were incredible and made my demo experience that much better.

thanks, also thought those are probably the balls.
but that's were i'm stuck :(
i cannot get those in Israel.
that's not a bad price for a 24 can (i can get a box of Tretorns here for 95$).

but TW don't even ship balls out of the US, and just the shipment will be huge..

I've found the Babolat Roland Garros balls are actually pretty decent. They are heavy duty as opposed to regular duty.

Wilson Australian Open balls have been my favorite of all time, but you can't find them in the US. My next favorite has to be Pro Penn Marathon. Good feeling from beginning to end and very good durability. (extra duty version)
