New Balance Fresh Foam LAV Fit issues

I feel the shoes have a very poor fit across the part of the foot where the base of your toes and foot meet. The side of my big toe pains a lot after about 2 hours with these shoes. I was surfing through some reviews and came across the following review on the NB website which talks about the exact issue I am having.

Has anyone else had similar issues with the fresh foam lav fit? Any ideas to work around this?

Here's the review from the NB website:
"First, on a positive note, I absolutely love the look of this shoe. The colors and design are really cool. I generally love New Balance tennis shoes....I've owned numerous pairs over the years, but I've never bought a pair that was this uncomfortable. I purchased my regular shoe size and the first pair arrived and were too tight, so I exchanged for a half size larger thinking that would solve the problem. It did not. The shoes have a very poor fit across the part of the foot where the base of your toes and foot meet. Probably due to the stiff plastic upper. I've tried walking in them several days and they are still uncomfortable. Unfortunately, I can not return them now. I'll probably end up giving them away to a friend. Very disappointed. "

Try loosening the laces on all eyelets each time you put your foot in. Then slowly tighten the laces from the bottom up helps lock in your foot.

I do loosen the laces everytime I take the shoes off but I think I tighten too much on the lower eyelets to get a locked in feel. Also the firm plastic material on the side of the shoe next to the big toe seems to be causing the pain. I did try stretching the shoe with a shoe stretcher to make this plastic piece on the side and it helped me get through the shoe's life but I still wasn't pain free. I got a replacement pair under warranty in half a size up. Hoping to play pain free with this but I don't think its gonna happen.

I am currently happy with the Babolat SFX3, the soft upper mesh is very comfortable and the stability is acceptable. Bought it at a great price from TW and now my size of OOS. Wish I had bought a couple more pairs. I also have a Gel res 8 in size 11 2E coming my way to try it out. I have tried about 6 shoes in the last year and a half and still looking for what fits my foot best.

I have been pain free for a couple weeks with the SFX3, so most likely this replacement pair will go on sale soon. Anyone interested in a new size 11.5 2E shoe, PM me.

The Lav's do not perform very well when the laces are over tightened. Tighten to a light snug works best for me.

Had exactly the same width issues that you describe, although I only have access to the standard width shoe here.

The work around was to buy a different pair of shoe
