New Federer Racquet Coming

A Wilson rep told me today he has no idea if there will be a new racket. He said it all depends on what Federer wants.

I talked to a Wilson rep today and she said Revenge of the Nerds is on at 11.

She was right, I'm watching it now. Love this movie. Master best class film making.

LOL! Looks like something Fed spanks Mirka with in 'private' moments.

This sounds like a winner. Wilson will fly a few different models into Dubai in Sept; Fed will hit them for a few minutes; he'll either say 'I like this one' or 'Where are we eating dinner tonight?'

If Fed does move to a 95 incher... how many us normal people do you think will move with him? And what would be the justifications of these same people of moving to a larger frame? Could it be?

1. More power
2. Larger sweetspot
3. Thin beamed 95
4. New PJ
5. Because my idol uses it

The whole 90sq" recreational tennis brigade will move with him simply they copy what he does. There's no justification for anyone other than a GOAT, to use a 90sq" Tour in the modern game (and even then, it puts him at a disadvantage compared to his peers).

That is a very interesting thought Torres, but I think some of us recreational "hackers" are still using the small headed rackets like the KPS 88, PS 85 (since it's re-emergence), and the like, perhaps to our own "detriment", but nonetheless we do so because of the pure joy of using such rackets. I suppose we shall never face unreal opposition in our daily/weekly tennis battles, so there would be no need to switch to a larger head to gain a competitive advantage! :)

You're right. That's why I switched to an 85 sq. in. frame. Those huge 90 sq. in. frames were putting me too much at a disadvantage in the "modern game". :)

Hope I can find a good deal on BLX90s if he does change racquets :)

Just speculating based on the twitter photo above and another posted at the same place by the Wilson GM that it's probably his new frame and they are shooting a commercial for it. You can see in the other photo how they are setting up for the shoot with Roger, or his stand in, holding a racquet as if to show it off in front of the camera. You can see how it's the focus of the shoot setup. Plus the colors of red and white certainly fall inline with what Federer would use based on his "Swiss-ness"

I am a member of the 90 brigade. Grew up playing an 85, spent the last few years trying out the new larger tweener frames, and sorry, I am back to my AG100's.. Sorry I don't follow what players play. I play what I use!

I hadn't noticed that, we can't draw too many conclusions though.

why isn't he wearing shoes?

In the second shot - sitting with racquet - that's not Federer. They're just setting up the shoot, testing lighting, etc ... so it's just some production dude wearing the same clothes as Federer so they can make sure the shot will be right when Federer actually does it. That's often done rather than having the 'star' sit around for hours while the crew fiddles with lighting, camera angles, etc.

it's the new suisse pj that severin luthi commissioned for federer. i inspected the frame closely and found this on the throat

I see so many beginners and old women and old men come in to the pro shop here and say, "Do you have the Federer racket?" and I say "Yes, but I want you to use this here Head Six Star first and then Ill give you the federer frame to demo." I wish we didnt stock Wilson frames, the only one we really sell is the six one tour. And the occasional Blade 98 and a few pro tours. I mean the people dont even know what the frame is called and they still say "I want the Federer racket!".

Woah, anymore pics from that day?

That polo isn't for any season in 2011....

That is what he is wearing for the Aus Open 2012, and that is the PJ of the new racquet.

And his new Nike shoes are some sweet looking wheels, and a completely new redesign to the current 8's

Just to put this to rest, that racquet is actually a cheapie Walmart special. You can find it in your local Targets or Zellers or whatnot.

You are still young. That's exactly the point and the very pinnacle of a good marketing campaign: no questions- yes cashflow.

Yesterday my wilson rep was passing through and I asked him about all of this. He told me Fed is playtesting 93, 95 and 98 heads. My understanding is that it could be any of the three equally and that this will not be a Blade Tour, 6.1 95 or Blade 98 but rather a new racquet from Wilson. It's up in the air as to whether or not it's BLX or if Fed is working with Wilson on the next stage of technology.

Note to posters in this thread:

Wilson Reps are about as likely to know anything accurate about Federer playtesting racquets as any hard-core Wilson/Fed fan. I.e. pure guesswork or just passing on the company kool-ade because it suits their purposes (it keeps up interest and intrigue).

They are the same people who have said all over the world that Federer uses a retail BLX.

As zapvor said on the first page of this thread - Fed hit with prototypes. That's a no-brainer, he does it every year without any doubt. If they let TW members join in on playtest schemes you don't think Federer and other top players don't also try them at in the developmental stages? Of course they do. Wilson would have a guy employed to do nothing other than make sure Federer is catered for with his frames (to P1) and is the conduit for any developments they're working on with him.

100% correct !

The problem is that Wilson is loosing his big cannons... that makes sales dropping!
... and they need some fresh air !

... instead, they should be more concerned with they'r quality control !

Honestly I just think Wilson has poor marketing to juniors and Babolat has seriously picked up their game. Wilson needs to get back into marketing to the younger crowd. Also the quality of their frames and paint has been really poor in my opinion starting with the Kfactor line up and has gotten worse with the BLX. Pure Drives are total tanks and take some serious work on your part to crack them, which can not be said of all the hair line cracks that are being discovered in the blades from just routine play and stringing. Why should I dump several hundred bucks on some Wilson frames that are going to crack and chip if I even look at them wrong? Not to mention trying to get one of your frames replaced from them can be like pulling teeth.

I guess my question is will the new roger frame simply be a 6.0 95 mold with similar weight distribution to his 6.1-- if so that could be a pretty interesting raquet if they do end up making it. About everyone one I have personally talked to who owns a 6.1 90 has expressed interest in a 95 due to the 90s unforgiving nature when you are not playing your best tennis.

I'm thinking if he does change from a 90 (which I would be suprised if he did), he will either go to a 93 with a 16 main pattern or a 96-98 with an 18 main. When you get up to a 95" head size, you can get flyers off the stringbed with 16 mains. The 16main 6.1 has this problem. Then going with 18 mains, the pattern is pretty dense at 95sqin (again like a 6.1 with 18 mains). Also, the old ProStaff 95 had a really flexible head. It could be stiffened up with different layup/materials, but you might be able to keep the same feel with a head size around 93 without the head getting floppy. With a 98, you would go to a completely different racket.

Federer obvisously wants the frame that he can play best with but I think that any bump up in size, and, perhaps, drop in weight can only help to improve sales. I think that it would be cool if he had a line of frames, 93, 95 and 98 that had the same PJ, flex and similar weights and used one of them.

cooleo i dont use BLX because the whole thing is complete bs but i wonder if wilson can modify feds mold so that the frame feels relatively the same but just has a bigger sweetspot which is now going to be double the size of a walnut. anybody have any clue what the new "technology" will be?

Too true, unfortunately.

Then they try to hit with it and say, "Tennis sucks!"
