Hey guys!
New here, searched around a bit and didn't find a thread regarding the new HEAD ATP tennis balls, so I hope this hasn't been discussed elsewhere on the forums.
My question is- did anyone notice a difference between the HEAD ATP ball in the old tin cans vs. the new HEAD ATP ball in plastic cans?
I've cut open a few new and old balls and find that the grey rubber cores seem identical. And there's not really any noticeable difference in playability.
BUT, through our national tennis association, we have received some sponsored balls, also HEAD ATP in new plastic cans, but with an added sponsored logo on the felt. This ball is really different to play with, and of course, I cut one of those open, too. This sponsored one has a black rubber core, so visually different from the non-sponsored balls mentioned above. Also, playability is very different, seems like a heavier, harder ball.
Would HEAD possibly use a different rubber core for sponsored balls?
Our national tennis association tells us, that all new HEAD ATP balls in plastic cans have this new black rubber core, but I tend to disagree. The non-sponsored ones in the new plastic seem very similar to the old ones in tin cans.
Any thoughts on your experiences with the HEAD ATP ball (old vs. new vs. sponsored versions) would be greatly appreciated.
I've attached a photo that clearly shows the difference between sponsored vs. non-sponsored balls.
Thanks for reading!
