he is defintely a promising junior...

his brother is probably going pro... Ryan Harrison

ryan has already gone pro and has signed with IMG. I am quite sure his younger brother will follow in his footsteps.

Their father was an ATP pro, I think top 100, he now teaches at the John Necombe Academy in Texas.

Its a great academy/camp by the way, I and both my younger brothers have attended.

Ok, I just talked with my rep friend and the new limited will have a flex of 65 and it will come equipped with a leather grip. Babolat is releasing 3 other racquets in April too.
The other one is going to be called the Aero Storm Tour and it will be a 10.6 ounce version of the Aero Storm. The other two racquets didn't interest me much so we didn't talk about them. One is the Aero Strike 9.7 oz.

A flex of 65 sounds pretty good, especially with the 19mm beam. The only criticism I have for the k95 18x20 is the beam width, at 22mm it just seems a couple mm to big. A 19mm beam is going to cut through the air well. Depending on the balance this racket could have a low swing weight despite its near 12 oz static weight.

I will most likely be increasing the weight if I play with one, but its always good to start with a stick which is a little bit below your target weight so that you can add lead accordingly to reach the target weight, but also adjust the balance to your liking.

9.7 ounce-are you sure?

You mean you lead up a PST or a PC 2003 or something else? If you're leading up a PST I'd be curious to know what you put and where...

i add about 1/2 ounce of lead.

.05 ounces at 3 o clock
.05 ounces at 9 0 clock
and .40 ounces inside the grip (i prefer lead weights but in a pinch you can put on the grip under the replacement grip, and covered by a little sctoch tape to keep the lead "contained"...

if the latter use a smaller stock grip so the total grip size is not affected...
ie if you use a 1/2 normally get a 3/8.

But this is just what works for me on my PC 2003 and my PST2007's
Your set up might be different....

Stiffness of Babolat rackets vs Prince rackets

While I was hanging out at my local shop, the Babolat rep dropped by with the new frames: PS LE, Aero Storm Tour, new Aero Storm and the Strike.

Flex on the PS LE was 65 RA, unstrung.
A loosely related question:
I use two rackets for teaching:
Aero Storm stiffness 66 ( according to TW)
Prince Speedport Black stiffness 70 ( according to TW)
The Prince racket feels much softer but according to
the specification above should be much stiffer.
Can anybody provide some insight why stiffness number do NOT
make any sense?
I assume that the flex number quoted by you is the same as
the stiffness number quoted by me/TW.
See my exchange of E-mail with TW
Hello,

Thank you for contacting Tennis Warehouse. The stiffness is from us. We
measure each racquet and give our own specs. I hope this information is
helpful. Please email or call 1-800-883-6647 if you have any further

Am I the only one who thinks Babolat should have brought out the name "Pure Control" again. At lest they are not calling it The Pure Storm Pro Tour.

So the aero storm tour is basically a redo of the "old" racquet"? That beam length is definitely different. Is the paint job changing? Seems odd to bring out a new version of it so quickly.

Maybe they will even drop the woofer.

Possible, but I doubt it. It's their trade mark technology. Many really like it. However, the woofers are not nearly as pronounced on the other Pure Storms as they are on the Pure Drives. So they are probably at lest using those woofers. Perhaps they are using even smaller, less pronounced ones on this racquet.

Have you guys ever removed the grommets from a woffer racquet? They don't seem astonishingly different than any other grommet. Woofer technology is a scam.

PJ is same as the aero storm that is out now - it seems weird that the tour is actually lighter than the regular but thats the info straight from Bab... PJ for the Pure Storm Ltd. is the one in the picture that started this thread. I didn't look to closely at the aero strike because I don't have any interest in it at all and I think the members reading this thread would rather read about the PS Ltd. and the aero storm

I'd really like to know why the aero storm has been changed in the "tour" version. Lighter static weight and different beam dimensions...do you know what the swingweight is supposed to be? I'm wondering if it will be a better stick...I found the original to be kinda dead and underpowered for a racquet of it's kind.

I wish they had made the aerostorm tour when I bought my aerostorm last summer;) I love my AS but around 11.8 with an overgrip would have been perfect. I've got aluRough/syn gut in mine now at 50/53 and the power and control are nice. I still prefer the PST on the serve.

The info from Bab didn't include swingweight so I'm not sure... The file was just a .pdf of what will eventually be some type of ad or flier. Since it was just attached to an e-mail I got from a Bab rep, I couldn't post pics or anything.

I find myself interested. If you can, or could send it on I would like to see it. If not, no harm done, and no harm intended. sfrazeur (at) yahoo com.

I'll confirm Zane's posting and add the following.
The 2008 Aero Storm will be the LIGHTER version. Aero Storm Tour will be Heavier.
This is going to be confusing as the Aero Storm from last year and this year will weigh different. To top it off, they will have same paint jobs.

The Pure Storm Limited will be available in an EXTENDED LENGTH version also :) and yes it comes with a leather grip :) Also looks to be around 9-10pts Head light strung (if I calculated it right) Balance:315mm strung according to Babolat. 305mm unstrung.

This Pure Storm Limited looks to be their most solid stick to date. More mass in a smaller head and leather grip. Cheers.

It's not my kind of stick anymore, but I would demo that.

No aero strike on TW... but now that you say something that does sound right - they may have had it a few months ago but the one I mentioned was along with the other new sticks... sorry but I've deleted the email with the .pdf's already

I wonder if this is an old mold? Babolat used to make a player's frame for Europe that had a 95si head, low 70's flex, 18x20, 19mm beam and 27.5 inch 'extended' length. One of the kids on the local DI team used it for a while. I really didn't care for it. CC

There is the PS6.1 Classic extended. It had about a 70 stiffness, 18x20 pattern and was 28."

-SF

Where did you get that stiffness number? It's possible, I suppose, but doesn't seem right. The 6.1 series were all quite flexible (usually in the low/mid 60's at most) and I don't remember thinking it was stiff when I hit with it.

You're right, I was off a bit. I could have sworn the rating was more near the 6.1 Classic, which TW lists as 72. The the stretch is listed at 66.

Racquettech.com has the PSC6.1 and the stretch listed at 65 RDC I personally don't remember the classic to be stiff either given that I used it for most of my junior tennis career....that was a while back. 65 sounds about right.

I just go by numbers listed, or what I recall numbers to be. I have never gotten the chance to hit with the original 6.1s. The numbers from TW on teh standard 27" one may be from the last run of them that they had, which could of been special make up ones that happen to be stiffer than the regular, pre-discontinuation runs.

no im talking about the

Limited edition pure storm ...

You quoted me referring to the 6.1s from a decade ago, I could not have known.

The PST LTD. is not fully released yet, some pro shop have some demos now though. They could be available for purchase by the end of the month or middle of April.
