New Lunar B 1.0 vs. 1.5 including pics

Hey guys,

I just received my LB 1.5's today from TW and I have to say that I love the color way, and the fit is exactly like the 1.0. However, there are three differences I noticed right away. Two of the differences have to do with trying to improve ventilation while the other has to do with the material of the upper. I've posted (I hope) pictures of the new 1.5's and some of my old 1.0's to try and illustrate these differences. But first, here are all of my LBs. Most definitely my favorite shoe.
seycug.jpg

The first difference is in the middle panel that you can clearly see in the pictures on the TW website. However, in person the holes are much bigger in the mesh than I thought which should let a lot of heat out of the shoe.

The second difference I noticed was the size of the holes in the mesh in the tongue. In the 1.5s, the holes are also much bigger than the 1.0s which again, I'm hoping let's a lot more heat escape from the shoe.

Finally, the upper itself is made out of a different material in the 1.5 vs the 1.0. I'm not sure if you can tell in this picture, but the 1.0 upper material (L) that a lot of people complained about "creasing" was textured and had a more "cardboard" feel to it for lack of a better term. The 1.5 upper material (R) on the other hand is completely smooth and has a softer more leather like feel to it. It actually feels like a better quality to me.

Also, when you run your finger across the swoosh itself and the upper, you can actually feel the swoosh is raised somewhat on the 1.5 whereas on the 1.0 it felt flush to the upper.

Anyway, those are the main differences I saw between the two. I'm pretty excited about the attempt to add more ventilation to LB as it was absolute murder on my feet in the Texas heat. I've got a tournament this weekend (indoors), so I'll report back and let everyone know if I could feel a difference.

Great post, thanks!
Never been able to fit in them though, so sadly gonna have to miss these too

Great Work

Just got mine yesterday as well and played an hr with them. Feel different, but good. A little cozier and not as constrictive. Love the new colorway.

Great review. I really like the LB 1.0 I've been using, and these all sound like great improvements. At first I just saw the mesh panel on the side, and thought "big deal", but the tongue and upper material changes make it a nice upgrade.

Also like the colorway, finally something that doesn't have pink in it!

Didn't notice

Do they feel a little quicker?

I didn't really feel quicker, but sometimes with the 1.0's I have trouble dialing in the correct tightness with the lacing, sometimes can get a little constrictive at the end of a session if I tie tighter. But with these I always felt just right as far as the shoe tightness. Just a little more pillowy maybe?

Mine will be here on Tuesday. Thanks for the write up, helps a lot.

This will be my first pair of Lunars. I went from CourtBallistecs, to Vapor 9.5's, and now the Lunars.

Pretty stoked on this new colorway, it looks amazing in the pics!

Took mine for a spin this morning. To be honest, I like these a ton more. The ventilation window helps out a ton, and they feel a little quicker.

I had the CB 2.3s and really loved how they felt but toe box was cramped. I tried the 3.3s and they fixed that cramp toe box but they felt stiffer and not as plush as the 2.3s hence the switch to Vapor 9s and 9.5s.

Are the new LB 1.5s more plush than the Vapor 9.5s?

Definitely more cushioned and the weight difference, if any, is marginal.

Hey guys, just finished the tournament, but unfortunately didn't wear these too much. I played the majority of my matches outdoors (one of the tourney locations was canceled so we lost 10 indoor courts) and it was 38-40 degrees and I actually wanted LESS ventilation to keep my feet warm. I will say that these felt a little bit stiffer than my previous versions, but that might be just because of the cold weather. All in all, I do think it's a nice update.

Plush in cushioning below foot or plush upper?

The LB has much better cushioning below the foot than the Vapor.

However, the upper of the Vapor is still better, the flywire on the LB seems mostly cosmetic, since it's attached to the upper material, while the Vapor has a better functioning dynamic fit upper and much softer upper around the toes.

Wanted to add a minor footnote to Aussta54 great post. Yes, the tongue has a different mesh, but it's only on the front side. The back side of the tongue still has the original fabric mesh of the lunar ballistec (not 1.5).

P.S. I wanted to see what white laces would look like. Personally, white laces helps balance the colors of the shoe.

JT_2eighty: I think the Vapor 9.5s are more plush than the Lunar Ballistec 1.5s, but that's just me.

Got them today, and man are these shoes beautiful.

Tried them on and they felt great.

Will play a match in them tonight on indoor hard, I will report back tomorrow.

Going back to the Vapors.

Just my opinion but I hated these shoes. They weren't comfortable from the second I put them on, they bend when you walk, pressing on my little toe.

I sized a half size down as told, maybe they're just not a fit for my feet.

I absolutely love the Vapor 9.5 so i'm going back to those.

The vapors got great cushioning but if the LB 1.5s are even softer, then my feet will thank me. I know the CBs I tried in the past were never as good as Vapors when it came to fit and plush upper.

Are the significantly more plush on your bottom of your foot or are we talking about maybe 10% more plush? Right now, I wear Nike Elite socks to help add a bit more cushioning to my feet.

Nice write-up.

I played a few sets of doubles in the Lunar 1.5 today. I like them. If nobody mentioned already, I would say the color looks like very dark obsidian. I suppose it's got some grey in it, but it looks more blue to me.

Also, it crossed my mind that the forefoot area may be a bit roomier than the previous Lunar Ballistec. Maybe its the new vent that makes it feel roomier.

Overall, great shoes.

Out of interest do you have wide or narrow feet? I'm in cages now and they are a little wide for me

Hey guys,

Wanted to update this post since I've been playing in 100+ degree 80%+ humidity temps down here in Texas for the past few months to let you all know how the updates in ventilation did in the heat. While I have to say that the ventilation is night and day compared to the 1.0, it is still just too hot for my feet. If I could, I'd go back to the Vapors (love that shoe), but I can't handle playing multiple tourney matches over the weekend with the lack of support/cushioning. So I've decided to try out the new Barricade 2015s. Just ordered them yesterday, and if all goes well, I'll be switching from a Nike man to an Adidas man. Just wish the LB's didn't run so damn hot!

Barricade 2015s are fantastic shoes, but I am not certain that the ventilation is noticeably better than the 1.5. Both good shoes in my opinion, and I am looking forward to the Boost Barricade 2015.

I think just the look of the Barricade made me believe that the ventilation would be better. Even if it's the placebo effect, it might be enough ha! And if I like the Barricades, then I'm definitely getting the ones with Boost.

Best shoes of all time, and I'm digging the new colorways as well. Just picked up the last 10.5 pair they had on here in the White/Silver/Black.

Can't wait until those Oreo ones go on sale.

I just got these and I agree they are really hot. Overall, I still like these shoes but it is surprising on how hot they get

Don't get me wrong. I absolutely love this shoe. It is by far my favorite shoe, and if I don't like the Barricades (coming in today!), then these will be the ones I go back to. But with the climate here, the heat is making me try other options.

Oh I agree completely. I love the purchase, I got the white and silver ones that were on sale, but I am just surprised on how hot they make my feet. Overall, I do recommend them, especially if you can get them on sale.

On the contrary, the 1.5 Lunar Ballistecs seem narrower in the forfoot than ver 1.0...Either that or they bent, b/c they bother me on the left side, where the shoelaces start (the big toe starts).

I went back to 1.0 and no such problem.

Anyone else experienced this?

Thanks!
