I sent an e-mail to mastersports, on the SAM stringing machine that they have and they sent me this info:
As I am looking in getting a good machine,
I don't even know what some of these features even are. It may raise the standards for features on a machine, but is more that I would like to spend on one now.
********************************************************************************************************************

Our new machines undergo a slight colour change as well as an introduction of an all new RX-V2 top of the line machine with many new added features.

They are due out in 3 week… a little to late to place under the Christmas tree but early enough to hit the new year.

The top of the line RX machine will feature…

- RTH - Raising Tension Head,

- Semi Auto Base Clamps,

- Auto Activation Tension Head,

- Electronic turntable lock with Auto-Lock Pulling,

- New Raptor Turntable,

- Plus much, much more.

This machine will cost $4,500 and is fully loaded with heaps of features.

I read a roadtest on a Mercedes car once. One of the comments was "Has the best warranty in the business, and damn well needs it.". The more features you have, the more that can go wrong. That's why machines like the Ektelon H and Serrano 550s were the workhorses of the industry for so many years. Then, people wanted more features. More features meant more money. The costlier the equipment, the more stringers had to charge for stringing. Sure, get a $4500 machine. In time, maybe it will pay for itself. Hope the warranty lasts that long. And, maybe people will even pay more to have you string it on a machine like that. But, unless you have money to burn and you're into expensive machinery, I'd do a cost analysis of owning it. I'm not against it. Afterall, Babolat has had it's fair share of success. But it has earned it's right to charge more (good service, reliability, etc). SAM may be around just as long. Good luck. Keep us posted.

You are correct that more features, more can go wrong, but the trade offs could be good as well. You compared to automobile, todays features make the cars of past very crude. I still have my old Dodge Challenger from the 70's, and compared to todays cars ride and handeling there is no comparison. My wife wont have a car now without heated seats, the new features as such are nice. But what you say is true, my serrano is a great machine, and if I was able to get the updates to handle the oversize frame I would still use it, as such I do need to get another machine, but not at a price of this one. A difficult decision to make as to how much to spend, but still want to get a great job done on mine and family's racquets, without compromise.

4,500...really? Unless you own a pro shop or run a high volume stringing business out of your home I don't really see why anybody would shell out that much for a stringing machine.

Jim, not saying it's a bad decision. People buy Mercedes. Just do a cost analysis to determine if it's worth the extra $$/stringjob over, say a new Babolat Star 5 at $3000. It may be. But, how fast do you need to string for doing just your family's rackets? Do you need a Rising Tension Head (this is to get 360 degree rotation)? Do you need (or even want) auto activation tensioning? What is their warranty? I'd sure want these sensors covered for a while. How long does it take to get replacement parts? Who can fix it? At this price, these questions should be asked. I'm sure it's a great machine. I'd just want to make sure it can stay a great machine.

See the picture and check out all the features! Price is $5500.00 US.

Hi Steve,
The raising tension head is to make the least grommet friction possible while the tension is being pulled. The string is being tensioned straight and thus will be more exact.
All the best and happy Christmas
