Just ordered my first stringer this morning.. Silent Partner Swing.
I've strung before using my coaches stringer, but not more than a few times. Other than going over the manual when I get it, any good stringing tips any of you have found to be useful?
Thanks

congrats. I heard good things about that machine. I believe with every machine you string a couple rackets with it and good used to it and learn how to do things more efficiently. It makes it easier when you use a good machine like that. Enjoy.

Let me know how you like it. I just traded for a SP Swing and it should be here shortly. I'm really excited to string for the very first time and start saving some money.

Cool cool. I'm assuming they are sending free strings with the machine, anyone know if they are any good?

They normal give you a few sets just for practicing and one or two decent sets to try out their products. Enjoy your new Swing, it's a nice machine.

New machine just came in tonight, no strings were included, kinda disappointing, but other than that, everything looks great

One common theme that comes up with a new Stringing Machine.

Get familair with the machine before starting your first racquet.

1. Make sure the tension is correct and you know how to adjust it.
2. Check to make sure the string clamps are properly adjusted, so strings don't slip.
3. Make sure everything works properly.
4. Gripper adjustment is necessary if you are stringing Polys. Or else you may flatten or damage the string.

I'll be using Pro Hurrican Tour which is polyester im pretty sure. what do i need to do so that i dont flatten/damage the strings?

You don't have any synthetic gut that you could use first rather than a poly? Poly is very annoying to string and if this is your first time stringing you might want to make it easier on yourself.

You have a cam tensioner, it does not matter because most of the tension is on the cam and not the gripper anyways.

Set you String Clamps so they don't flatten the string, but does not slip, either.

Yeah I just snapped a set of strings... I'm not overtightening it, I'm getting the bar to drop horizontal, so does this mean my clamps are too tight or something? I started with Gamme Stinger 16...

tension was set to 60, so its not like im trying to put a ridiculously tight string on it..

It's very possible. You can try to clamp on a piece of unused string to see if it leaves any heavy mark on it.

Good luck !

Yeah, I figure I must be doing something wrong, though I haven't pulled it too tight or anything, so I'm not sure why it's snapping on me.

Most likey, synth gut is used for the crosses. You can probably use a different Poly for the mains.

I'm using Volkl Cyclone mains @57 lbs. and Gosen Sheep Micro crosses @ 60 lbs. I hate string 2 pieces, but I'm quite surprised with this combo. I little too much power, but it's comfortable.

Check for damage on the poly and adjust your clamps. There may be an adjustment on the cam gripper, but you would have to read your manual or contact SP.

the cam gripper is the part where you wrap the string around to tighten? its not breaking there, one part broke by the clamps, and then another was just completely random towards the center of the racket.

I've been reading about polys a little more, and since they dont stretch well, should I change the style of how I use the drop weight?

Slipping and overclamping can cause damage to Polys. Slipping causes stripping of the string, it's probably worse than over clamping. Also some polys don't like very high tension (above 60). Drop the tension a bit on your mains and string the crosses at 60.

Got it, I;ll try that. Is there anyway to set the clamps well without it being too loose or overtight?

You just have to test it with trial and error. With my clamps there is a dial with an arrow. I move it about 10 to 15 degrees, then test tension. I have fixed clamps, so it may be a bit different with flying clamps.

we'll see. gonna test my luck w/ PHT tomorrow, haha polys. if not i have some pro supex coming on friday, its a shame all my rackets need restrung.. and i want to play..

I know how you feel. :sigh:

I had to play with a back up racquet last week, coz I did not have any string that I had in stock to string on my main stick. My main stick had Genesis Spin-X which loss so much tension it was unusable, except maybe to serve, but that was it. Luckily my partner and I still won the match.

Yeah, I use Prince Hybrid Tours, both of those have snapped strings... My third racquet, a Head Liquidmetal Radical also popped a string... so I've been using a slazenger for the past week, and it has some serious tension loss, and ive been holding out till my stringer came in yesterday, and apparently im not capable of stringing poly :sigh:

Polys, especially co-polymers, are very hard to begin with. They have a high tensile strength, but are very brittle or damage easily when clamped to hard.
