*NEW* Poly/Poly Hybrid thread (reviews and recipes)

I actually am running a CES Neon Hybrid right now. The string bed is a bit harsh and erratic after a short amount of play but the initial play was awesome.

I'll probably end up with a full bed of Hyper G at a higher tension to tame the power, Cyclone at the bottom of the tension range or what USPTARF97 recommended and go BHB7 / Gut.

What USPTARF97 recommended or HyperG/Ghostwire....

Maybe I won't try the Neon dust in the Pure Aero then, I don't need more "harsh" in that frame ,lol... may try it in my VCP 97 instead

I don't find Neon Dust too harsh. You just have to be aware about the string going dead, since it is really hard to break the square main string.

I agree actually. I meant that it went dead on me relatively quickly and only after it did did it become harsh.

Give me a good hybrid suggestion for a power frame (Pure Aero)... best arm friendly, spin, control, low power... Hyper G/SPPP? Cyclone/SPPP? maybe

What is the consensus, *snort*, on gauge and tension for poly/poly hybrids? Match gauge? Thinner cross, thicker mains? Tighter crosses etc etc???

I just played a couple of sets with 17ga Tier One Firewire Boost (Firewire/Ghostwire). Great combo of power, control, spin and comfort.

I'm interested to see how long this level of playability lasts. I'm not a big string breaker, so if I can get 8 hrs near this level of playability before I need to cut it out, this will be my new go-to string.

I don't think tension has a significant impact when optimizing hybrids. Anything can be appropriate, depending on what you like.

For gauges, I would go thicker main, thinner cross. Mains typical break first, so you get the additional durability where you need it. Thinner crosses give the better playability where durability isn't as necessary. The gauge thing is also reflected by prepackaged hybrids: Gravity, Neon Dust and others have thicker mains.

Thoughts on Alu Power / YPTP vs full bed of Alu Power?

What are you trying to achieve with this setup?

Usually poly hybrids are oriented around combining spin with some other aspect. Using two round polys would likely just be about feel.

Lately ive been using:

Luxilon Alu power 1.25 mains / Wilson Revolve 1.25 crosses @24kilo (53lbs)

And im absolutely loving it!

tourna BHS7T // SPPP both 17g should be good, id string BHS7T a few lbs tighter than what u normally string poly at and SPPP at low to mid 50s but string crosses few lbs less than mains. probably 55/53 and if it feels too tight then let it loosen up for few days/weeks til u like it and bump the tension down a few lbs depending on how long it took for stringbed to loosen up in order to fully enjoy it

it really depends on the racquet you use and what you’re trying to achieve out of your setup. For more open patterns, maybe use thicker string because strings will break faster. If not string breaker, then 17g should be fine. Usually thinner gauge has better playability but worse tension maintenance and durability so it’s all about finding the best balance of playability while not having to change out the strings more than you’d like. Usually looser crosses help promote snapback action in mains. Some of the poly strings that are soft like cyclone tour/BHS7T must be strung higher. Others that are more stiff need to be strung lower. Also, open patterned power racquets need to be strung higher while tight pattern should be strung looser to compensate for inherently stiff feel. Again, it’s all about finding the best balance of what you’re looking for and for what suits your game.

Thanks for the tip. Right now giving BHB7 a shot at 48/46. Does Tour Bite or Cyclone do well with slick crosses at all? Seems like I have a glut of those types of string on hand right now... YPTP, Ghostwire, MSV co-focus

yeah, if u enjoy the feel of those strings, i wouldnt see why it wouldnt work well. They are just too harsh for my arm because Im a 4.0+ hard hitting baseline basher
