New Prince Line: January 2009 (Pictures + Specs)

You would have to think that Prince is doing the right thing by releasing players sticks--im still surpirsed that the 03 hybrid at 95 square inches didnt sell more

The TT Rebel (also 95 and 18x20) gave me a sweet surprise today. While i couldn't serve right after coming back from a 3-month break, with the Tour 10 or Diablo. I served quite successfully today, with Rebel. The volley (with a low tension PSDG) also are managable and mostly comfortable except when i made an error myself.

With my present form, i may have to switch back to this stiff racket for a while.

The new Rebel 95 seems to have very dense X pattern, since the space below the bottom string is huge.

Anyone has an idea how to string a stiff racket with 18x20 pattern ? Is a very low tension much better in this case ?

Ps60,

glad to hear that you are again enjoying your rebel. I also play with an 18x20 racket as well, and have found that lower tensions work well in decreasing the stiffness of the string bed.

I usually string in the mid to high 50's (lbs).

100% Sure Monfils is playing with a Prince and that he is being courted by Prince

I have AMS tv, so I can watch all the masters series matches online.

I watched Monfils vs. Gonzales today and saw two things that support my above notions.

Firstly, I saw the side of Monfils racket and clearly saw speedport/o3 holes, I could not tell which, except that there were huge grommets on the sides of the racket characteristic of Prince.

Secondly, sitting next to Monfils coach (Roger Rasheed), was a guy in a Prince sweatshirt. I know that is not definitive evidence, but I would assume that if he was still with Head, one of his entourage would not be wearing a sweatshirt from a competing company.

I have no doubt that Monfils is playing with a Speedport racquet. Prince can take a speedport racquet, and using string hole grommets and customization, that racquet can be made to play like any other racquet in the world.

Personally, I like the newer Prince ports because they really soften the string bed and help with top spin, but it also takes away a lot of feel from the vollies and touch shots.

Also, I have had several Prince speedport racquets break this year, but all of the breaks were in the throat area and far away from ports. If you ever hold and feel the new prince racquets, you can tell that the ports are the most overbuilt portions of the frames.

I will look forward to trying out the new racquets. My local shop tells me that they will be ordering a lot of them because the various Prince port racquets sell very well, except with high level players and these new racquets are expected to fill that nitch.

More Monfils Pics - Definitely a Prince

You made a point about these racquets without, I believe, realizing it. Making the port areas "overbuilt" may in fact be the reason you experienced breakage elsewhere, since an overbuilt area leaves other parts of the frame to dissipate the energy of impact and probably makes those areas more likely to crack.

Chauvalito,

i don't know if i am enjoying the Rebel, it's just that with my current fitness and screwed up forms, i can't handle the newly strung T10. A stiffer and bigger head makes it easier for me to hit out with confidence. It's my first time to use Gosen OG micro 17 (on the T10) and it's just disappointing. The 16 is soft and comfy, the 17 is like chewing rubber candy. No crisp at all. I 'm going to cut out 1 X to soften the bed and see if things would change (for the better)

It's not the T10 that disappoints me, it's my form and the OG 17.

In regards to all of the discussion about the more elongated head shape of the rebel...the O3 Tour Hybrid and the Speedport Tour both share this characteristic. I think Prince moved away from their standard "lollipop" shape and experimented with the elongated head when working with James Blake.

And just by looking at some of the Monfils pics, it seems like the Rebel may have interchangeable grommet/port inserts too. Can't wait to find out.

I am too looking forward to these sticks, for no other reason than that they are new, and ONE of them is in my target spec range.

I am actually quite happy with my Volkl's, but over the last few years i have become a serial racket tester.

Although they have gone old school on the specs, their paintjobs did not follow...shucks...dont really like the new paintjob of the Rebel.

They should do something like what Wilson doing for the Pro Staff of the new Sampras's racquet....as in the paintjob.

The rebel does have grommets that you can either have in or out as does the graphite. Both rackets play really nice personally i prefer the rebel with the grommets over the graphite and the rebel without grommets but all of the versions i have used have been good solid rackets.

That's good to hear. I play with my Speedport Tour with the string hole inserts, but love the fact that you have the option for string ports. I think this is one of Prince's great ideas...really letting you fine tune your racquet more than other companies. That way, one racquet can be appealing to a larger number of players.

That is just so cool. A players stick that is quite customizable as far as the feel and power is concerned.

I have played with the 95 rebel with grommets and without and also the graphite 100 with grommets and without

They were all blacked out with experimental written on them.

Are you Davydenko's nephew by chance? Just Kidding!

If you could write a review for us that would be great.

I used to own 3 POGS and they were nice but too heavy for me. The new ones look interesting to me, i always wanted a head size in between 93 & 107
A 100 POG would be perfect in my book. I'll definitely try one out when they are available.

The green racquets don't look too bad, but I'm not a fan of the yellow.

What happened to the orange? There was an orange prototype that looked good.

Definitely funky paintjobs, and the green is easier to look at. I'm thinking they may have different paintjobs for release in the states. I'll hit with them regardless.

The orange racket was probably the new graphite, but with, of course, an orange paintjob. I say this because the orange stick had a crossbar in the throat.

Yea ive seen those man, I ment with players holding them..

Ohhhhh. Well, Monfils has probably been playing with the rebel, but with a blacked out pj of course.

I don't think we are going to see any promo pics until January, when the racket is officially released.

Why does someone who calls himself "applesauce man" have the signature "because everything should taste like bacon."

My quote comes from a product called Bacon Salt, which allows for everything to taste like bacon, and says so on the label. As a meatitarian, I thought it was a funny and unique product, which I absolutely had to buy.

As far as Applesauceman, it's a nickname from high school/college and a play on my last name.

Enjoy!

I wish I knew, but I apologize, I do not have info on whether Monfils is signed, or will sign in the future.

I did see what I thought was a Prince rep sitting next to Roger Rasheed(his coach) in Madrid. I assume he was a Prince rep as he had a sweatshirt on with Prince printed across the front.

i would think monfils, if going with prince, would go with the new graphite mid, as it is closer in headsize to his prestige.

This is true, but they are not yet offering the graphite in an 18x20, while the rebel 95 is an 18x20.

Also the fact that the head shape of the rebel is more elongated might make it play similarly to his old prestiges.
