New raquet under 100$

Hi, I'm more than a beginner but less than intermediate player. I play 10-15 times by summer, but I would like to play more this one. For the moment i'm all court. I used for 5-6 yrs an old and cheap (10$) Spalding raquet, really loud, etc...

This year, I would like to change my raquet for a new one. I don't want to select the 2008 raquet and pay 170$ for it. By exemple, there are a lot of interesting raquet there
http://www.tennis-warehouse.com/catpage-liqracs.html

What are the good choice and what are the worse?
I could find easily these raquets:
- Head Flexpoint 6 Oversize Racquets (or MP)
- Head Liquidmetal Radical
- Head Ti Titanium Radical Elite
- Head Liquidmetal Fury

The Flexpoint 6 looks interesting, isn't it?

thx a lot!

What I could say about my play. I'm not a hard hitter, I prefer a precise hit than a hard hit. I'll like like to improve my smach through. I like to run for the ball :P I'll play most of time outside. I'm 5'8 157lbs (72kg). grip 4 1/2 hope it helps

i would go with the lm radical os or the agassi le if you can handle the extra heft. if you want a mp, definitely give the mfil 300 a try.

ok nice, I didn't really know the m-fil 300. I could have it too for a nice price. So for all of you, I should forget the Head Flexpoint 6 (that I could have for a lower price).

The Ti Radical Elite isn't as good as the other rackets. It's more a Walmart type racket than a true frame.

The LM Radical or the M-fil 300 is a good place to start. They're relatively light, and relatively cheap (80 bucks).

FYI, the lm radical mp has a pretty dense string pattern. so as a beginner/intermediate you might find it difficult to hit with spin easily.

The mfil 300 is good from intermediate to advanced, so your tennis can grow with it. But, the fxp 6 is more powerful & easier to play with so it seems, plus you like its looks, so go ahead & please yourself. Since you don't swing hard, the xtra pop will come in handy.

n tour 95 good price and well known racquet

or

hyper hammer 6.3 great racquet (i have one) never let me down (quite light though)

I saw a DUNLOP M-FIL 4 HUNDRED too for a good price. Seem newer than the 300. Is it good?

Not bad, but plays quite stiff and frame vibrates.

Prince shark is not a bad choice for a tweener type frame...not super light or super powerful, and is pretty solid on contact (little vibration)

I have a lm radical, and I don't like it. It is very low powered and has too much frame vibration for a "players" racquet, IMO.

Go used.

ok, I'll think about it.

So I could have for 80$ a Dunlop mfil 300 or 200 (should I forget the 400-500-600?) a LM radical for a bit more (90-100$) and a Flexpoint 6 Mp for 60$. This is what I what as deal for the moment.

thx

If at all possible, demo the racquets before you choose. Prices do not necessarily reflect how comfortably they will fit you or your game.

That being said, I went from a Walmart Wilson to an m-fil 300 from TW based on recommendations from this forum, and I've never played better tennis. It does require a fast swing, but control and spin is excellent and you will definitely bring up your game.

I say go for the 300 with a more powerful string, and get some good conditioning and practice.

i also recommend the mfil 300. if you are between beginner and intermediate, the mfil 200 would probably be a bit too demanding since it is heavy and has a smaller sweet spot. the 300 would not be too demanding and would give you plenty of pop and a larger sweetspot without sacrificing a massive amount of control. and the mfil 400 is a piece of crap.

The Donnays are selling pretty cheaply. Plus if you buy two you save $20.

agree... i know this guy who uses it.. i have been playing with him off and on for about 5 yrs and hes gone through a number of racquets and he is playing beautifully with it...

best I think ever with any other racquet that he has ever tried.

try it with a nice mult/gut in the mains with a poly in the crosses (17 guage)

The Dunlop 300 or the Prince Shark. Both pretty easy to play with at lower levels but can be used up to pretty high levels.

It's funny, the OP's situation is very similar to mine, even to weight and height :)

Ok, the m-fil 300 is 98 sq. inches, isn't that too drastic of a change for a beginner who usually plays with 110 ? Btw, what is the effect of smaller inches?

on the os rackets you have a bigger sweetspot which means giving you more power.
while the smaller the head and width of the racket you get more control

going from a 110 to 98 isnt big as long as they work and play alot.
when i first started i went from a babolat pd 110 to a pd then smaller.
all i had to do was practice with it

The LM Radical seems to suit a variety of styles and is very popular. I would recommend this as a good starting point. If you have the possibility try and demo first. If not I would go with this.

I think u should go w/ a midplus racket. LM Radical, M-fil 300, and i also prefer O3 hybrid hornet mp, and Wilson n-six two mp.

Hope it helps!

I had the liquidmetal LM when i first started playing didnt get used to it, but recently went back and tried it and improving a lot, this racquet is great.

I use the LE agassi also, very nice racquet. Great Control. Great for volleys

I dispise any of the Head liquidmetal 4 / 6 w.e too much power

After, I've visited some tennis store here, I've not found any Dunlop M-fil 300... As I live in Canada-Quebec, I'll be too expensive to buy one with TW.

But for 100$ (strung), I've found:

Wilson nSix-Two nCode (forgot if it's a mid or a OS)
Wilson nTour 95 nCode.

I think there are good choice, aren't they?

Can you demo the 2 models ?

Both are great racquets!

I can only speak for NTour 95, the swingweight is heavier than normal (this is a players racquet suited for intermediate to advanced player). WHat's the difference ? if you hit off center the racquet felt stiff especially on the 95 models; many complained that the racquet is hard on the arm.
I started seriously playing tennis and my first good racquet was the NTour 95. It did take me a few months before I started to get the hang of it. As I progress I moved on to a heavier racquet..... I still have the NTOUR; I still play with it for time to time and enjoy the power the racquet delivers. After all the racquet prefect/ ideal for 1hbh player like me.

Hope this help.

I checked the spec of the N Six Two - looks like its a little more arm friendly (lighter swing weight) and bigger head size. Definitely offers abit more power compared to the NTour. I think it might be something that you are looking for.

ps.... I am also recommending M Fil 300 (if you can get one). Its a very good racquet - you can play it as a beginner up to 4.5 or beyond level

Their are lots of less than 100 bucks racquets: the Donnays, Volkl VE 10 mid, Prince NXG series, Head Agassi LE,.... Click on liquidation and you have them all. Depends on your preferences.

If you want to buy from a stores, I'd advise trying to find the nearest Sp))rts Auth((((ority near you. They have a decent selection of rackets and often have great sales. They were just selling the LM Radical for 70 bucks the past week.

However, I'd recomment buying off TW. Shipping is free if you spend 75 bucks (which you probably will). People here have argued about the LM Radical MP, Turbo Shark MP, Dunlop M-fil 300, etc. In reality, it doesn't matter that much. You're just trying to improve, and all of these sticks will help you do just that. I'd stay away from the Turbo Shark if I were you (due to that fact that you sound like you're a little older and can't handle a very stiff racket like the Turbo Shark), but that's just me. Just pick a racket (eeny meeny minie moe if you have to) and hit that courts.

yes, it's what I think, as I'm in Canada Quebec, the only place where I can have Dunlop M-fil 300 for less than 100$ is on ****. But I'm a little bit affraid to receive scratched racquet or even faked racquet. This is one of the reason why maybe I'll take one of the 2 NCode racquets.

So, could someone compare these 2 racquets:
Wilson nSix-Two nCode (forgot if it's a mid or a OS)
Wilson nTour 95 nCode.

I tried very hard to like the M-fil 300 as I bought 3 of them bascially on recommendations from this board.

In the end I found the frame just didn't suit my game and I didn't like the excessive vibrations it seemed to transmit.

I'm not anti dunlop as at the same time I also had the m-fil 200 18*20, m-fil 200+ 16*19 and an aerogel 500 all of which I preferred over the m-fil 300.

I'd strongly recommend the m-fil 200+ over the M-fil 300 , more weight, better feel, softer response, just generally felt a lot more solid. Additionally the 200+ can be had for under $50 if you shop around. TW price matched another deal I found without question.

Another great value close out stick is the Nblade 106 which I've seen as low as $60 unstrung. Unfortunately TW no longer carry this one.
