New rating in middle of USTA tri level season

New USTA ratings probably will be out November 28 this year (Monday after Thanksgiving). That is in the middle of our tri level season. Can I continue playing on the 3.5 tri level court if my rating goes up to 4.0 on November 28?

Whatever you register at for TriLevl is what level you will play at regardless of getting bumped up or down at the year end.

USTA National only has rules in this regard for leagues that advance to Nationals, and for 2017 says players bumped up at 2016 year-end may not play at Nationals at their lower/prior level. Each section has the option to decide if/when they will not allow a player to play at their prior/lower level and some may let the players play through Sectionals, some may let them complete the regular season but not play in playoffs, and others may say they are ineligible as soon as the new/higher level is published.

Note this National rule is new for 2017 as a result of doing away with early start ratings.

For Tri-Level, I believe it is purely up to each section on what to do as USTA does not run the "national" invitational, although I believe most allow players to continue at their rostered level as @cknobman says.

So with the rating appeal rule change do you still have to play fewer than 10 matches?

Interesting, I was not aware of the rule changes. Thanks @schmke

I had played on a TriLevel a few years ago where my league coordinator was putting together a team and somehow he knew I was getting bumped and made sure I registered before the YE ratings came out so I could play at my prior rating.

Yeah they get them early.

Ratings come out the Monday after Thanksgiving. When is the actual day that the ratings are effective? My local coordinator is telling me that the new ratings aren't in effect until January 1 of the next year?

Sections may have their own rules regarding registration for teams, but yes, the new rating levels are for 2017 leagues, but with no early start ratings anymore and some of these 2017 leagues playing in 2016, the rules about bumped up players being eligible at their prior level may kick in as soon as ratings are published.
