sounds interesting, guess Mac is too busy commentating:

The U.S. Open draw will have an instant infusion of Grand Slam champions and finalists this year. The USTA today announced the creation of the U.S. Open Champions Invitational for the 2006 U.S. Open. The new senior event restructures the existing format currently provided at the U.S. Open and will only feature players who were Grand Slam champions or finalists.

The new format will include men's singles, women's singles and mixed doubles matches and will provide equal playing opportunities for men and women (10 men and 10 women) as well as equal prize money.

A total of 18 matches will be played.

"The addition of the U.S. Open Champions Invitational will provide more excitement and more marquee names for our on-site spectators," said Jim Curley, U.S. Open Tournament Director. "Fans will be able to see legends such as Tracy Austin and Mats Wilander, and have the opportunity to watch Martina Navratilova play singles once again at the U.S. Open."

The U.S. Open Champions Invitational will be staged from Tuesday-Saturday of the second week of the tournament when fewer main draw matches are available outside Arthur Ashe Stadium. In addition, these marquee matches may also be played within Arthur Ashe Stadium on a select basis.

I thought they had senior events already. Does this mean they will get rid of other senior events?

Many players on the list are not quite "senior" yet.

Todd Martin for the title.

Reading over the list a couple hours ago, that was my first thought. Competition isn't all that deep. Reading at the beginning, it appeared to be a rip-off of Jim C's new pro tour. Then, I saw the list of players. Not sure what the objective is supposed to be.

It would be nice to see JMac and Flemming together again. Maybe against the Woodies? That would be a match worth watching.

And what happened to Rios...Did he win the titles of the 3 events he played and say. "Been there. done that.?" LOL
