New strings as a birthday present - appreciated?

Hello,

I've thought about surprising my girlfriend, who started playing tennis six months ago, and buying her a new set of fresh strings (or perhaps a whole reel?) as a birthday present. First I was thinking about a new racket, but since I'm just about to order a new one myself, I don't have the money right money right now. And I also think that every player should pick her/his racket themselves, after thorough research. What do you think about the idea, could it be appreciated? If I hand them over over a nice dinner in a cozy restaurant? My buddy will string them for her for free. Are there any decent pink strings out there?

OP watches closely as his gf eats the spaghetti at a nice Italian restaurant

is it the right time, OP wonders

is now the time to gift her the strings

as the girlfriend finishes her last noodle/string

OP says, "oh, I see you're out of strings, how about I get you some more"

Huzzah! OP slides the pink strings onto the table https://www.tennis-warehouse.com/Babolat_RPM_Team_16_String/descpageACBAB-BRPM16.html

My buddy, Mark'll string them up for you, dont worry! - OP assures his girlfriend

But the girlfriend is not impressed

She screams with dismay "Why did you think I'm a Babolat girl?"

Perhaps OP shoulda gotten some Volkl Cyclone instead https://www.tennis-warehouse.com/Volkl_Cyclone_18_String/descpageACVOLKL-VCYC18S.html or maybe some Tecnifiber Multifeel https://www.tennis-warehouse.com/Tecnifibre_Multifeel_17_String_Pink/descpageACTFUSA-MF17PK.html

Omg, almost as bad as neighbour who got his wife the powertool he wanted
Go for it and let us know how it goes
Love might just be blind enough.

I'd make sure Roger, Rafa or Novak are on the front of the packet, at the very least

Sure I'd wrap them in a nice paper. And perhaps even throw in a dampener and a fresh pair of wristbands. She'll get a blood-red rose too, and a nice card saying how much I love her.

Even though it may sound contradictory, there are no strings attached to this present.

Anything less than natural gut tells her you don't really value her...

I kinda doubt that in this case. She cannot tell night from day when it comes to strings. Everything is just same fishing line for her, only in different colors. She would propably only be disgusted and skip her plate if I told her that her present was actually made of animal intestines. :-D

@Notorious_Junkballer
good/great idea
I cant imagine a better gift for a tennis player (except maybe a new racket!)
buy packs only!!, buy reel if she likes them that much after..
a reel of string lasts soooooo much longer when its a string you hate!!,, (from experience)!!!
I would buy strings and provably matching overgrip!

First find out if she uses multi, synthetic gut, or polyester strings. Then shop around for variety packs. Genesis has a 4 pack sampler for poly strings and for multi strings for example.

Not pink, but rainbow colored strings.
Will make tennis more fun.

A 6 month tennis beginner using poly?
No she's not using poly. I helped her to find her first racket and we strung it with Dunlop Silk. She's been playing with the same set ever since. I'm now gravitating towards two sets of strings, so she can hybrid if she wants, or try them separately. One set just feels too "cheap", considering that my best friend will be taking her wife to Hawaii to celebrate her birthday and their wedding anniversary. So, I've looked at Tecnifibre Multifeel Pink and some soft and colorful co-poly to go.

Yesterday was the day. She loved the present, and the food & movie (Rambo Last Blood), and she'll be playing with the heart today with her club mates. All's well that ends well! :giggle:
