As it is our intent to have two user mods assisting with the message boards, we have just activated a new user mod.

User diredesire is the new user moderator for Talk Tennis.

As with previous and current user mods, diredesire will be moderating posts that violate Talk Tennis Policies.

All post editing, user banning and for sale moderation duties will continue to be carried out by TW staffers.

Chris, TW.

Good luck diredesire. I'm probably obtuse, but it seems clear that "naming" them lead to almost all of the recent problems. I certainly demand transparency in government (and don't get it), but TW isn't a democracy - much as some members would like it to be.

Good Luck Mate, Thats so awesome. Id love to do it. So long as you just mod fairly no one should have a problem

Welcome, diredesire! I hope your time as Mod is as ... calm ... as the last several days have been for me.

I see the Dedans Penthouse thread is gone. Excellent work there!

Fee........I know you're fond of Dedans but he can't expect to show up, refer to the TW admins/mods as Naz*'s and get away with it.

A. It's in poor taste

B. He's smart enough to get his point across without resorting to insults and vulgarities.

Anyway, if he'd come back and chill out a bit he could still enjoy the forum and find interesting ways to get his point across.

His point was freedom of expression- so he overexaggerated in order to stress that point. He wanted the post to get deleted, just as Gandhi wanted to get arrested during his demonstrations in India. I personally thought the thread was harmless.

You're comparing someone's post on a message board to Ghandi?

Well ok then. Whatever you say..........

What is wrong with the comparison? This board- though inconsequential- is like a mini-society. As you can see, we are having a type of problem within our "government."

If you are unfamiliar with Gandhi's movement, please visit this site.

If you read the article, it is easy to draw parallels between Dedans' and Gandhi's actions. As Dedans suggested, it is wise to acknowledge and learn from the past.

As I said before, this little board is really inconsequential, but it is fun and rewarding, so it needs to work. To make it work, one can draw solutions from historical events- possibly what Dedans was attempting.

you might wanna spell gandhi correct first....

interesting tidbit is wikipedia's smart enough to redirect the misspelling to the right page =)

Thank you.

I do notice, however, that in your post you spell "want to" as "wanna," and don't capitalize the beginning of your sentences...

Right. How could I have possibly missed it.

Anyone find a missing "-ly." Aznkb888 seems to have misplaced one.

Hi guys, sorry i've been stringing at the tennis center i work at!

I'm glad to see that TW has made the announcement, First off, before any misconceptions get perpetuated, i'd like to state on the record that I'm not out to make drastic changes to a board that i feel is one of the best out there.

I'm very eager to make these changes (that i feel were inevitable) as easy as possible. If you have a problem with me, or my "moderating," my e-mail is available through my profile, please feel free to contact me privately, any personal issues can be dealt with in private. I check my e-mail often, and I try my best to be fair.

If i have had any personal issues with any posters in the past, I have put them behind me as part of the "job."

I'd also like to mention that my job is not to edit your posts, or make this wonderful board a place without fun and freedom to express yourself. All i ask is you abide by the rules! All i will be doing (as has been explained to me so far) is remove any posts that clearly break the rules. TW is not giving me "charge" of the board or anything, I'm just trying to help maintain the flow.

Again, please shoot me an e-mail if you have any questions, concerns, or problems with me or any actions i take.

Thanks for your support,
As a fellow poster, and a TW supporter
-DD

Somehow, when I read the above, I hear it being read in a very computer generated 'voice' - like the one Stephen Hawking uses.

"We have just activated a new user mod."

Sounds like a new type of moderating machine, doesn't it?

I hear it more as the voice of the Borg..."Resistance is futile."

diredesire, i think you're pretty cool and quite knowledgeable about stringing.

I have two major requests.. Please moderator in the area of your knowledge.

The forums.

Strings & Stringing.
Stringing Machines.

And please stay away from anything posted in Miscellaneous forums.

Remember less is better, except in the bedroom.

Thanks for the feedback equinox, this was actually my original intent. However, since i'm supposed to mainly focus on posts that are against the rules, i will have to occasionally overstep my "boundaries," it's just part of the job. For now, i'll have to keep browsing through all the forums and try my best to keep things clean, but I really don't see myself changing my browsing habits much ;)

My suggestion is: If you see a post you don't like, report it with the little exclamation point icon in the bottom left, we'll hear about it and deal with it. I don't really plan on being "over-active" (i.e. searching for posts to delete). If something catches my eye and is very blatant, i will deal with it. I'm not going to go out of my way just so i can click the delete.

cause we all the trainwrecks happen down in the string forum of course!

Tru dat. Those arguments over which is the better string get wicked heated.

Dire will probably have his hands full just keeping things sane over there...

I have never seen this DiredDesire before, you must not post in Pro Player, Odd's n Ends, or Rants?

Nope, i've been around the board for 5 or so years, Maybe a little more? I typically browse the racquets, strings, and tips/instruction and health forums the most. I venture into the odds and ends and rants when i see a title that catches my eye, but i'm mostly interested in what makes things go (strings, tension, patterns, tools, etc) rather than what is going on with the tour players. I don't find a special interest in "famous people"'s lives, just because they're famous. I also have a fairly busy life outside of the boards/tennis, so I don't like sifting through debate posts about which player is better etc, although i DO find those discussions very intriguing.

Here's a challenge dire, how about merging the 3 new tennisgirl_001 threads?

I'd love to, but I'm going to hold back on that one, If they become very cluttersome i'll merge them. I don't want to get trigger happy. I know a lot of people are very touchy about the boards being "changed" and I'm not going to go out of my way to make them angry ;)

hahaha so true but i think that diredesire will do well as a mod, for the reasons ive mentioned before, mods in different time zones means that the boards can be clean 24/7 basically

Haha DireDesire, oddly... you know some of the people I know :O! Mr. Aziel, Mr. Curt, Mr. Ces and such all doing the computer science & electrical engineering @ UW (and graduated).

I'll be headed there doing -> Architecture Major... Sadly they don't have Architectual Engineering so I might have to do a physics major or minor? Not sure how it will work out.

Yep, I know curt and ces, don't know aziel, i dont think...

I saw you reported a thread recently, thanks for helping us out! For future reference, please be detailed in your request as to where to move the thread, I can only see the link to the thread in the e-mail that gets sent to me, so I don't know if it's already been moved or not (we have some VERY fast admins/mods here, i'm typically not the first one to respond to a request)..

Thanks for your support guys!

Ahh no problem there bud. Ahh, you knew Barney? He did Chemical Engineering there @ UW.

Hey you string racquets and string for the UW team correct? What stringing machine do you use?

I'm planning on buying one because well... I have some money I'm going to spend on new racquet gear and stuff for my college tennis season and I'm planning to get a stringing machine and learn.

I string on a Prince Neos 1000 at the tennis center (for the teams) and for personal use i have the Laserfibre MS200TT.

I would recommend (for "portability" sake) that you try a table top machine unless you have the space. If you have the budget, check out the Gamma X-ST, Alpha Revo 4000, or Laserfibre MS200 series
