So is there a greater divide between a 5.0F/4.5F than a 5.0M/4.5M?
Obviously, there are no absolutes. A good 5.0M / good 4.5F is better than a weak 5.0 F / weak 4.5 M, but I think for the most part Jolly is right. 5.0 is the F level where the women are able to really compete with the pace of higher level men.

The "digital solutions" question is interesting. Ideally, the USTA could automate a significant amount of the league process and eliminate captains etc.

They should help make the captains’ jobs easier, but they cannot eliminate them. Captains are the glue that keep the leagues together and thriving. They recruit, cajole, organize and guide the players that are the lifeblood of the leagues.

I'm not sure captains are needed to recruit. USTA coordinator can establish teams, levels, locations and times with participating clubs. Players can then sign up online, select preferred level, location and time, and the computer can assign to teams. The computer could even do lineups etc. Captain just there in case something goes wrong, but doesn't recruit etc.

You're definitely not a captain if you think that will take the place of the recruiting work that captains do.
