New video of me hitting

I am guessing you are the guy in the blue?

You have some nice groundies there well done, hit good depth from what I can tell and decent pace.

I would say you could give your self a little more room on your take back on your forehand which would probably get you even more power.

I also think that you something take your racket back a fraction late and are then having to rush the rest of your swing so that you are at the correct contact point, if you get the racket back slightly earlier and move your feet towards the ball then this will improve.

Overall a good clip and thanks for sharing!

second video added, keep the feedback coming :)

looks pretty good. the first thing that stood out about your game is you look very natural. I can usually spot a good athlete and you my friend , look like a good athlete. I think you have good footwork, and smooth strokes. your pace of shot looks good too.

what is your usta rating? I would guess 4.5 5.0 ?

I don't know how they hold up under alot of pressure but they are smooth so I assume pretty good.

Thanks for your feedback, yh I've only been playing for around 4 years, but played a lot of football (soccer) before that, and tried a lot of different sports not competitively and perform well in pretty much all of them (don't mean to sound arrogant). I live in England and my rating is 7.2 (not sure what that is equal to in the US) but the people I play say i should be higher than that, and my record shows this as well (straight setted the last few 7.2's/7.1's that i've played) but just don't play enough tournaments to improve it. Thanks again for your comments.

Looks like my compact strokes. Nice hitting and thanks for posting. :)

Nice groundstrokes! You look very relaxed, which is funny because that's not what I associated with Djoker or Murray.

Anyway, great job

I like how much you open up and how apparent your follow through is. Keep this up during matches too and you can go far!

btw guys in England our rating system works the other direction

1.1 is a pro like Andy Murray thats the best you can get and I think 10.1 or 10.2 are people just starting.

In my opinion you are certainly better than a 7.2 I know a few guys who used to be 6.2 and and 7.1 and you would give any of those guys a decent game!

Where in England do you play?

Very nice looking strokes. That forehand is sweet! It looks like you move very naturally and your not over exterting yourself.

Relaxed is good but its not realistic all the time. In all your videos your relaxed(very good) but we have yet to see your groundstrokes in a match (are you still that relaxed?).

I'm not saying your bad bc you should be from 4.5-5.0. But I'm nudging you to post a match vid. :)

Just to add to my comment before, I just saw your third video from your original post and thought I may add something.

Watch your third video that you've posted. Do you notice that most, if not all of your shots where your weight is not transferred toward your front foot is sailing into the net?

I'd give you a 3.0 or so rating tops. No dri-fit polo, no bandana or sweat band, and your shoes don't seem to be worn by any top pros. I also saw very few reverse finish forehands and you don't grunt on hardly any of your shots. I'd like to see you towel off after every point, at least.

I would have believed your estimates of 3.0+ for the boy. But you're pretty serious about delivering the punchline in phrases that followed.

So, yeah, I'll give your joke an NTRP 5.0 rating. Competitive. :)

None of you guys did noticed that OP is not that relaxed in some moments when the balls was returned in an odd position in the court. His strokes got nervous as evident by the mis-hit or an outside return shot. I saw it. For the observers, follow the ball as if you the one hitting the ball back.

My verdict is that the boy will crumble on crucial game play.

Dude, chill out. He is a kid. His strokes are smooth, grooved and mostly controlled. It is common to be put off by balls in odd positions as few people in the higher levels put as much time into slice strokes as the drive strokes. It is very easy to slightly misjudge them short when not in matchplay as you are not going after the ball as much.

I just criticized constructively as this is my own developmental problem as well. I tried to train myself proper judgement on every incoming ball especially with my usual hitting partner who is a Senior and at NTRP 3.8 level (yeah, I know and I'm 42 BTW).

Well, my message to OP, is to try NOT to play at the level of your hitting partner. Do some deep shots which maybe millimeters above net cord and long. That way, we would be able to see you grunt -- automatically.

Looks good! Smooth, relaxed, and fluid.

Just remember to involve your legs a bit more, and bend your knees to get lower down to the level of the ball particularly with those lower balls, rather than staying upright and trying to reach down.

The level of his hitting partner is not very good so it would be counter productive. I believe the point of his video was to get an idea of his NTRP. Many people on this forum would tend to say 'We can't tell because you aren't rallying for long enough' and therein lies the problem. It is hard to have a high quality hitting session with someone who is a level lower because you need to go a little more up and down the middle. Yeah, I am 42 as well but I don't see what age has to do with it.

Enjoyed watching the video and I think we should get NoleMurray playing in a match and see what he plays like.
As he's from Nottingham, I think Fanalfantasy7 another member on the forums should step up and give him a game..

I know he will read this comment within a day or so, come on lad challenge Nole.

Wow, lots of comments, thanks guys/girls who have responded so far, I'll try to reply to you all individually...

MHT- thanks, I have worked on making my forehand a lot more compact so comments like that show its working!

joesucks- cheers for the positive feedback, doubt i'll be going pro though haha, started way too late/don't have the money.

boojay- thanks, yh this was more of a casual hitting session so I try to stay as relaxed as possible

Zachol82- thanks mate, i feel very confident on my groundstrokes now, almost as though if I wanted to, at the level I play at, I won't really miss haha, regarding the weight transfer I definately struggled with this a lot on my forehand previously, I feel I have got better at transfering my weight through the shot, but there is always room for improvement!

ark_28- thanks, as said people have commented that I should be higher than a 7.2, but I just don't play enough tournaments, I tend to play in tournaments that are fairly local to me (Nottingham) whereas a lot of people I play against travel all around England.

Agassi-Fan- Cheers for the comments, my backhand is definately my stronger/most solid shot so I have worked on improving my forehand and making it just as reliable.

Photoshop- thanks mate, I definately hit the ball a lot harder, heavier and faster than in my previous videos, haha our club is fairly quiet so we pretty much have a choice of court whenever we have a hit.

BaboFan - thanks, I try to stay as relaxed as possible when hitting, I have been fairly successful in tournaments I have participated in so I'd like to think I maintain my form in matchplay, if I able to video some matchplay I will definately post it.

HunterST- haha, I now see where i'm going wrong, do I need to do those things to get to the next level?, perhaps I also need to swing the human racket? ;p

syc23 - thanks for the positive feedback

Ballinbob - cheers mate, my groundstrokes are definately the strongest area of my game, still working on the serve and my volleys, but they're coming a long nicely as well.

watungga- not really sure how to reply, but thanks for your comments

gregor.b- cheers mate, yh I was definately more casual than I was in matchplay in terms of the 'awkward' shots, and would definately focus a lot more on them in matchplay, my hitting partner is rated worse than me but he is able to maintain a fairly competitive rally

Torres - thanks for the positive feedback, yh thats definately something I am working on and will incorporate more in matchplay.

Kam2010- cheers mate, I'm always up for playing new people :) if he is up for it, I will play, I'm in nottingham until around the 6th Jan then I head back to uni.

Thanks again for all the comments guys/girls. (Sorry for the long post)

Went back and looked at your Jan 2011 vids. You totally overhauled your forehand from WTA style to ATP style. Looks nice and relaxed in the new vid with very compact takeback. When did you change your technique and what resources/models did you use?
