^^ Compared the TW playtesters and their ratings, the Lafino/Fukky crowd is def 4.5 to 5.5. Ppl shouldn't jump to conclusions based on their controlled, slow pace.

Just look at their volley skills.

I completely agree...

I don't know how serious some of the comments are... but you need to watch more of their reviews... Takaishi-san in particular absolutely destroys the ball when he wants to and is probably a coach... From what I've seen, he would probably give Andy and the crew a very easy run for their money.

I think that they try to have a variety of skill levels in order to give a more balanced opinion and feedback on the racquets they are testing. However, they can all play... they're just having fun...

Yeah, those guys have skills and enjoy their videos. Would probably enjoy them more if I spoke Japanese, or had English subtitles.

I also find their brand name funny, and wonder how it evades the auto-censor.

I couldn't agree more. I really enjoy watching their 2 against one drills :) I only wish I could play so relaxed and playful, but still at a high level.

If they had Head's design team for the paint, they would probably sell twice as much frames if not more, who is going to buy this? Kinda interesting how Yonex go's from the worst designed Ezone (Original DR 98) to the best designed Ezone (Blue one) to the new worst design... First of all lime and light green mixed with black; wtf? Second those colours aren't masculine at all; this probably means that most men will not like the way it looks, and they are the main customer probably. I can even imagine a woman think: Well I like a green overgrip, but this is too much! What is Yonex thinking with a paint job like this?

Good move going from 310 to 305 gram imo though. Wondering if they changed anything on the grip size.. Would probably have replaced my current frames directly with these if the paint job was at least half decent..

Their strategy should be clear now and that's to initially release a new racquet with a bad paint job then a year later they'll re-release it same under a better looking paint job. This is because R&D is expensive to have to come up with new technology for new frames annually.

Finally Yonex came up with some good paint job. Ai was great looking racquet, Dr (especially blue one) was one of the ugliest racquets out there. This one just looks amazing!

Wish I could understand what they're saying, but we can see it in action here.
New name of the line is plain EZONE. No 2 letter abbreviation after it. As the 5th generation ezone, they decided to go back to the original name and change the head shape to be more isometric/square like the earlier generations.

I watched the video last night. They discussed that the top of the head is flatter and wider to increase/widen the sweet spot since they noticed players hit more on the upper end of the hoop. More talk about the Hyper MG, grommets/drilling pattern, new technology.

Coach Takaishi said that he liked the 98 strung low (40lbs) with PTP even tho he was skeptical about how low the tension was.

100 had good stability and control. I forgot what else they talked about.

Looks like Coco still uses whatever model she used under the paintjob. The new line looks considerably more square, ala 1st gen ezone and ezone Xi

Thanks for the translation. did they talk bout the stiffness of the new 98 vs older one?

went off my brief recollection of what I watched yesterday. I can watch it again later to check. I think this is part 1/2 of the review too so they might have left some details for the next video.
Yeah that's their trend.. cool will be interesting to see if they wen't stiffer with this one... Hopefully part 2 is out soon

Glad to hear their thoughts on the stability of the 100.
I thought both the AI and DR 100 were less stable than the 98 requiring lead at 3 and 9. Perhaps in the new version, they have adjusted the TW to address the issue.

Clearly those Fukkyn guys are a bunch of jobbers, hacks, and schlubs.

The throat is thinner and wider where the handle ends. It was strung with some new yonex string and felt just great. Better than DR I would say.
I was focusing on my new wilson ultra tour test today and not so much on Ezone, but I will play with Ezone more tomorrow. Lets see if I get it down to RDC and measure flex and SW.

Some more 3.5 hitting ;-) look at that touch at 2.00, no chance 3.5 !
Still looks like 3.5 to me. One or two of them may be lower level 4.0's. But if they played in our 4.5 league here in Central PA, they would get killed. lol!

Had a chance to hit with new Ezone 98 today.[/QUOTE]

Great side-by-side picture comparisons.
I love the new more square-shaped head which looks more stable (proof is in the playing). The sharper edges above the handle gives it a more masculine look and the cosmetics look a lot sharper than the DR.
I'm loving it and can't wait to try it.

Yeah, well, draw your own conclusions at your own peril, because I'm pretty sure these guys would hand most all of us our collective arses if we actually met on-court.

I, for one, wish my own game, such as it is after 40+ years, looked or felt as effortless as these guys, irrespective of NTRP ratings.

I happen to agree with @dje31... to each his/her own... I guess @TennisManiac's 4.5 league is full of tennis coaches... Lucky for you @TennisManiac :)

I've won against top 100 in my city but if that's 3.5, then either the tennis players in my city of 8 million people are all terrible, or I'm just a 2.5, haha.

This guy knows his stuff. anyhow, so yonex did move the sweetspot up in the string bed which is really great. This means even the standard length racket will play like extra long.

Yeah, it's an exhibition game, they are fooling around, playing points instead of actually trying to win points.

Here they're playing against double against a female doubles team. Some nice mid court volleys on the receiving end of smashes.
I mean, we've all seen the TW review and match footage, and know their ratings which is more than likely to be legit, so it's pretty straight forward to assess a rating. But if you can't see they're at least 4.5 based on tactics and shot selection alone, you're probably not reached 3.5 imho.

Kind of reminds me of the statistic that well over 90% of male drivers think they're above average when it comes to driving ability.
