New Yonex Vcore 100D

I have played with Speed MP’s the last year or two and I’m picking up my Yonex vcore 100D today, strung with Mach 10 and Wasabi X. I’ll probably post some initial impressions after this weekend.
Yes that would be greatly appreciated. The speed mp was perfect for me except the inability to flatten out consistently. Currently on the Ezone 98 but just seems a bit too flat for me.

Mini review of the 100D with a major caveat. My go to string setup is Otoro mains, Sync crosses and my Yonex has Mach 10 and wasabi X, and I definitely prefer my usual setup, Sync is just a wonderful cross string for enhancing solidity and plushness. The Yonex has great spin for sure, you can hear the strings snapping back regularly, it’s almost distracting. Power was similar to my head speed mp but probably slightly less. Launch angle was quite similar I thought. Volleys were very similar. Serving felt like equal or slightly more control but a bit less pop, more spin on second serves. The sweet spot is large, at least as big as my Head Speed. Overall control and feel was excellent but again, I need to swap out the strings for a better comparison . I’ll post again after I do that.

Thank you for this. I’m definitely considering this purchase once I sell my 305S.

If you could explain what the main differences are between the two and which one you prefer for each scenario and what type of player you would recommend each too that would be great. I’m personally wondering how the flatter shots compare between the two cause that was a pain point for me on the speed.

Hmmm. I don’t think I can do that comparison justice until I change the strings in the Yonex, so that the differences I’m feeling are just the racquet. I’ll probably change out the strings this week so it’s going to be a while until I can do a realistic comparison.

That’s fine. Looking forward to it

I’m a little confused to the logic adding weight to the head. Yonex if they’re on top of QC, should be 325-330 SW (TW avg is 328).
For a thicker beam, this should be fine.

I get the handle weight to compensate the smaller grip.
As I dont have a SW measurer here in Bangkok, it's hard to say.
But I had around 3-4grams of weight at 12 in my PA93 (2023), so I was going to try that to see if it would help.

But your point of thicker beam makes sense, so probably wont make much difference.

Tested it for a bit and feels surprisingly controlled. Felt more power with my ultra 98J.

I do think it’s a bit sluggish compared to other rackets. Very forgiving imo and has a large sweet spot.

The specs of the demo I got with an overgrip and dampener:
336g static weight 322g SW

I found an online retailer in Europe which carries all grip sizes in stock. But 300e is so damn much even I regretted not paying that before just to test it (not possible). I'm 3.0 - 3.5 player and I enjoy the normal 100, but if you don't get enough spin the ball goes long so easily. I'm trying different string setups at the moment, but a bit more control wouldn't hurt. I came from Percept 100 to Vcore so the change is quite big compared between these two. Swing weight of the 100 feels quite maximum for me at the moment to play it comfortably for longer sessions.

Tad's cancelled my order (US Customer), refunded the $ and won't respond to my email asking "why". Removed them from my list of stores to buy from. Nice customer service!!

OTOH-- TW delivers as always. Got my 100D yesterday.

Additional context @Lex :

Same thing happened with my US order (only place that had the 98T in size #3) - However I called them while it was stuck in a rather long 'pending' period as I was worried something was going on. As feared, they were told that the new tariff charge was 100% and did not want to stick me, or another 5 or so US customers, with that extra charge.

Not sure why Canadian retailers are wary of the tariff situation.. I received a TWE order a couple months ago worth 600 or so and wasn't charged anything through customs.

I’ll give a little mini review of the 100D vs Ezone 100. First impressions based off a social mixed drill against players a little lower level than me.

Vcore 100D

-relatively lower launch angle than I expected given the string pattern doesn’t look that closed.
-definitely more maneuverable than Ezone.
-little more vibration/feedback coming through vs Ezone.
-100d had better variety and touch.

Ezone 100

-more automatic, more output with less input.
- more power
- probably more stable but need to test against bigger pace.
- more free automatic spin when not particularly trying to generate spin. 100d had more high end spin potential though if you really trying to spin it.
- easier but maybe not as enjoyable. Although in real matches maybe the results would be better.

I need to try the 100d against stronger opponents, in matches, with fresh balls before I really make any final decisions.

Nice review. How do they compare on serves and launch angle? Good to hear that the 100d is much more maneuverable , thought it would be similar since the new vcore was thickened

Ezone launches higher than 100d. 100d has lower natural launch angle with bettter control over the launch angle if you are trying to go high or low. Haven’t served enough give much thoughts on serves.

A friend purchased a 100D at IW. We hit twice and big spots of paint started coming off. He contacted TW and Yonex rep denied the claim saying it was aggressive abuse. Such BS I was there both times he used the racket.

that's a shame. I've never had paint issues myself but I hear about it quite often..

Was it just from playing balls or hitting the ground as well. I have 2 chips when the racket slightly hit the ground after failed receive of serve. Other than that just normal surface rash. Would be interesting to see some pictures.

I am having similar issues, as it scratches quite easily.
I also feel the racketguard on top is of a thinner and lighter plastic used in comparison to the PA98.
It feels the plastic guard is really easily affected by scruffing, not sure if I am the only one experiencing that?

Ahhh so I had this issue on a brand new Ezone 98 back in 2021 when I bought it. Paint seemed to chip/fade easily.

Guess things haven’t changed from Yonex.
Someone I connected through stringing sent me a photo of their percept cracking near the throat. Then their replacement did it again near the bottom of the frame. Curious if they’re worth $305

Yes the bumper guard is soft and scuffs easily. Mine looked as worn after a month than some rackets I’ve used for a year. They’re probably going to be a regular replacement item on these.

The bumper guard wears out fast. It's thin and soft. And what's worse, it doesn't cover the edge of the hoop at all. So scuffs that normally appear in the bumber go now directly to the frame. But I'm over with that at this point, mine has lots of wear all ready after 1.5 months of use. But I don't treasure it in anyway.

How does 100d compare to 98? I found 98 has a ton of power with 80% effort, a bit launchy and lots of natural spin. Balls wanted to launch high and dip in last min, sometimes hard to flatten out.

Sorry to hear about your experience with Tad’s, I’ll try to remember to ask them next time I’m there.

So I’ve played with my 100D for about six hours now. Before I give my impressions, two caveats. First, I’m 70 years old and have played competitive tennis and badminton since I was a teenager so my arm has taken a lot of abuse. Second, although I’m still a 4.0 to 4.5 level player, I hit with a continental grip on my forehand so I don’t hit the ball like younger players do, although I hit my thbh with lots of spin.

As I’ve mentioned in a couple of other threads, I’ve had some arm issues since playing with the Yonex but I also have a long history of tennis elbow problems. Hard to say if it’s just the racquet as my arm does flare up occasionally.

The racquet is superb in my opinion. The advertised qualities of spin, speed, snap back and stability are pretty much accurate I think. Spin for sure is abundantly available, all my playing partners commented on my backhand having more spin and biting down harder. Also good spin on kick serves. Stability is excellent. I play mostly doubles now and this racquet is absolutely rock solid for volleys. Also has good touch and feel, I’ve hit some wicked slice and drop shot volleys. Snap back for sure, you hear the strings snapping back regularly. I’m currently playing with Otoro and Sync, but it was the same with Mach 10 and Wasabi X. Speed is the only area where I’m not really sure of how it performs. I certainly don’t feel like it’s clunky or hard to maneuver, but I’m also used to playing with a Head Speed MP which has a higher swing weight. For me it’s fast enough and I’ll trade stability for speed generally speaking.

The sweet spot is large for sure, at least as big as my MP. Power is probably slightly lower than the MP and definitely lower than the vcore 98 which I demoed several times recently and had a lot of trouble controlling. Launch angle is slightly lower than my MP and probably the 98 too, but I didn’t have trouble with it. Control is fabulous and so is the overall feel. Everyone is different and has their own preferences, but for me this is the perfect combination of plush and solid at the same time, almost a “Goldilocks “ frame.

I’ll probably take a break from playing with it for a while to let my arm settle down. I just strung one of my MP’s with Truffle X and Sync to see if that helps. But honestly I’m enjoying it so much I might not be able to leave it in my bag for long. I think the 16/20 pattern with the other features makes this a great choice for someone who wants a great all around racquet. I also haven’t had any issues with paint chipping but I’m very careful with my racquets.

FYI I ordered a 100D from ATR Sports in Canada on March 17 because it was in stock and I thought had a chance to get here before TW had it available. Their estimate shipping to California was 3-8 day transit time. Suffice it to say I was very wrong--over two weeks later I have no idea where it is, last seen exiting customs in Chicago a week ago. Now I'm just hoping it arrives someday.

I'm currently playing with a Percept 100D w/Mach 10 x Head Lynx Touch @ 48lb and plan to string the VCore 100D with the exact same setup to get a good comparison. (I'm looking for more power + spin without sacrificing the great control I get with the Percept).

I only hit the Percept 100D for a few minutes several years ago but I think you’re going to get what you’re hoping for.

Still trying to figure out this 100d. I hit a heavy ball off both sides and enjoy the groundies with this frame.

Volleys don't feel as stable though (for context: I prefer my Prince TT100P 18x20 above all others)
I've tried it in stock form (vs a 5.0 heavy hitter) and with weight at 10 & 2 (vs a fellow 4.5 player). Next outing will be some lead at 9&3.
Both players commented about the heavy ball on the FH and BH groundies.

So I was going to respond to this comment yesterday but I decided to wait until I played doubles last night to check my opinion. I made a point of getting to the net as much as possible to hit more volleys. Respectfully, I can’t agree with your comment about stability on volleys. Over the last three years I’ve probably played with or extensively demoed over twenty different racquets and I actually think the 100D is the most stable of all, even compared to my beloved Head Speed MP which has a higher swing weight. I’m constantly surprised by how crisp and firm the 100D feels on volleys, even when the ball is drilled at me. I don’t make every volley, but it’s not because of any twisting or instability of the frame. Just my two cents.

Got a couple of hours in with the 100D, strung with Mach 10 at 48 lbs. I hated it during the first hour - felt harsh and low powered with a small sweet spot.

By hour two, I guess the strings settled in, and my initial impressions are that this is a very good racquet. Easy depth and power, forgiving, and stable. It has loads of spin potential, but I found I had to be intentional with spin generation. You can serve bombs with this racquet. OHBH feels great. It does feel a tad sluggish though and not quite sure about control yet against big hitting

I also have the 8th gen VC95, and it feels very much related to the 100D. Perhaps that’s obvious to say with the 16x20 string pattern, but it’s clearly the same DNA with differences you would expect

Interesting comments about the strings. I strung mine with Mach 10 and Wasabi X for the first two times I played with it and although it got better it never felt “right’ somehow. So I switched to my favorite setup, Otoro and Sync, instant transformation, solid feel, precise, consistent and it seemed like the sweet spot expanded. I don’t find it sluggish particularly but it isn’t whippy either.

Not a direct comment to the 100D but as I´ve seen last remarks to Mach10 I can relate to this as well - in the racquets I tried it, it felt quite harsh. Mostly at the beginning as somehow expected but even after breaking in, it wasn´t something that would persuade me to keep using Mach 10 in the future. Strung it also in Gravity Tour 98 and it was just bad...even my buddy who tried it and is a full time user of Gravity Tour by himself was disgusted by the performance of the frame with Mach 10 inside. Just a proof that the correct/incorrect string has such a big influence on the whole thing :)

I’ve definitely heard mixed reviews of Mach 10 but I did like it when I first tried it in my Head Speed MP with Sync in the crosses. Not harsh, good spin and decent comfort. But I agree that when you’re trying to evaluate a racquet the strings are important, and some racquets are much more string sensitive than others.

Yes, for sure. Mach 10 packaging recommends 40-50 lbs, so I wonder if mid to low 40s is the way to go with it. It’s definitely not a comfort string as marketed

Yes, agree. What tension do you have your otoro and sync set up? Is it comfortable?

Got more time in, including against big hitting.
Spin, power, stability, and comfort really stand out. To me, it feels like the PA Rafa 290 but with more comfort, power, and whippiness. It’s probably a skill issue in combo with the Mach 10, but I did have some control issues. I can’t imagine what it’s like to tame the 300g 100.

Look forward to hearing about others’ string set ups especially controlled based ones

I tamed mine 100 with 1.25 Hyper-G at 24kg. Solid response, no cannon effect. Direct control and feel. I need to sharpen up my technique to lower the tension again, there is more power in the frame than Ezone 100 has in it.
