New Yonex Vcore (for 2020 or 2021 ?)

-there is a string coming soon!?!?, by Tourna
-2 tone co-poly (red and blue),
-would look sick on this new y.vcore version
-its got a fuggly name, "tourna.deuce"!?, or something,,, ‍
Tourna Big Hitter Deuce has been out for awhile now. I haven’t hit with it, but pretty much all Tourna strings I’ve hit with have been solid, so it wouldn’t surprise me here either.

I've used the Ezone 98 2018 & 2021 versions, the tour, and the dr98.
This was my first time playing with a vcore. My review of the vcore 98 305g after 4 hours...
First thought was "oh there is a nice pocketing/snapback feel". Felt the directional control was better than the ezone.
It definitely felt like a whip, and surprisingly stable at 305g. I am tempted to add weight to the hoop, likely 3+9, but gonna hold off a bit longer.

Both are 16x19 pattern, but the vcore is slightly more open than the ezone.
I have seen online testing videos and the ezone and vcore have about the same spin potential/production. It feels that way to me as well.
Kinda disappointing for a "spin racquet" not to be better at spin but both lines are good at spin.
But because the vcore has a thinner beam and is less powerful, plus a slightly higher launch angle, perhaps the spin is having a greater effect on groundstrokes.

Volleying was fun when putting it away. I think with time those touch shots will become better.
I would agree that Pure Drive = Ezone, Pure Aero = Vcore.
On paper the stiffness RA is higher for the vcore, but it didn't feel any stiffer than the ezone.
Confirming the ezone is the all-court type raquet, and the vcore is a baseliner but no slouch in any category.

Played today with the 98. To me it feels like the previous version but not as direct, like everyone is saying it pockets the ball a bit better and its noticeably more comfortable. Nasty wind today so couldn't really play properly. Lets see tomorrow.

Has anybody measured VCORE 95 swingweight? My VCORE 95 came in a few days ago and has an unstrung swingweight of 281 (310 strung with 1.21 poly). This is way lower than @TW Staff published specs. Did I get a way under spec frame or is there a mistake in TW's published specs? Weight and balance were very close to published specs and SW was measured with a calibrated Dunlop machine. Posted this in the review thread also.

strung with babolat vs nat gut blue and yonex poly tour fire.
That’s the perfect hybrid setup for the new Vcore

Interesting, Tennis Nerd did a review and he said the 95 he received was also close to spec in terms of weight and balance, but the strung SW was 312.

Yeah, that seems pretty significantly below spec. Yonex doesn’t generally make those types of tolerance errors. I’ll be interested to hear what you find out.

Confirming the ball pocketing aspect, just a tad more powerful or maybe its the feeling because its more stable. Serves better than the previous version. My mods are 2 grams each at 3 and 9 and 5 grams in the butt cap same as my previous vcore98.
Definitely an improvement on the previous version, i felt a lot more confident going for some shots and the comfort is great.

I remember Troy on a yonex playtest mentioning picking out a stick with a lower swingweight and saying the sw on yonex’s does vary. I think it was one of the Vcore 330g playtests. He didn’t mention the range of variance though. So only tw and yonex know the typical swing weight variance.
Pays to measure the sw and not assume, even with a Yonex. Racquets are after all still a hand made product. And not knocking yonex, I have many!

My two Ezone 98 were off on SW by 7-8 points but had the same weight.

What Yonex does is they put a metal plate in the foam handle. Yonex will put the metal plate of the correct weight to reach the specced weight . I don't think they do much more then other companies for SW.

P.s. I changed my handles to custom ones and one racquet like a 40g plate and the other like 30. I don't remember the exact numbers.

Anyone have any updates on if/when there will be '+' versions for this line? There were a couple of guys here that had some inside info on the EZONE line last year (both '+' frames and the Tour line), but they seem to have disappeared from the forums.

VCore 98 was the last bow in my trust on reviewers.... in general. From the most well known to the least one. I was reading such many great reviews on this stick and so I pulled the trigger and ordered one. I previous owned both previous VC98 red and galaxy..... yonex continues to create muted and mediocre sticks that only have great paint jobs.

The days of Dr98,DuelG,TourF,Xi,ai.... even si....etc are over!

I am just waiting to try previous VC95 to just see what the fuzz is all about.... I have no expectations after owned ezone98/100 2018/2020, VCP97 310/330/HD blue and green, and VC98/100. The only modern yonex I enjoyed was the VCP97 blue 330..... but it’s not for competitive tennis and 2-3 hours marathons.

The common thing on the above modern yonex sticks is no feedback. AT ALL! And this has not only to do with VDM.... the mute trend started from ezone 2018 and VCP97 blue. And now all the yonex sticks i tried I cannot tell where the ball is gonna land after impact. I cannot dictate rallies.... I have no confidence even on swinging their racquets they feel so unNatural to me.

Don’t get fooled by the fancy yonex marketing. VC98 21 is just a more muted 2019... and that gives you a sense of more solidness. Power, spin and sweet spot are a tad more. Except that it’s another lifeless racquet. Even baboblasts have more ball connection. Buy it only for the paint job. I still hate their grips that have no flare at the bottom. Also 1HBs stay away. Goodbye yonex.

No argument there, but many of us think that is a good thing. As much as I like my current VCORE 98 +s, they are a tad on the harsh side. Coming from Fischer, it was a bit of a change, and I'm glad for the VDM.

Yeah, that's still a sticking point. But, 10 minutes of effort, and a Wilson butt cap can change that:

For me, I'm changing the crappy base grip anyway, so replacing the butt cap isn't a big deal. But I can certainly see it being a PITA for others, especially if you don't have a stapler on hand.

I'm pretty certain the Vcore has a wider beam, especially in the throat..which is why I believe it is rated slightly more stiff. Its funny TW shows: Beam width for the ezone 24..then says tip/shaft 23/19...makes no sense.. Vcore throat definitely wider

Ime the Babolat Pure Drive has to be one of the most muted, feel-less rackets on the market.
But that just goes to show that many have polar experiences with some rackets and racket lines.

I've played with Yonex rackets for a long while, and I don't like any of the 100s with the exception of the Duel G 100, and perhaps somewhat the DR100. I also thought the Vcore Pro 97 (blue and green) lines was a step backwards compared to the Duel G line.

I also thought the SV98 is a better racket than the VCore 98, albeit stiffer and with an acquired feel, that is very divisive. I found the Vcore 98 an ok racket but it didn't excel in anything, and it was string sensitive, meaning a poor (personal taste) string choice would result in a "lifeless", dead setup.

The Vcore 95 (2018) otoh, is a great racket. If you like it or not, would ime depend on how you like a racket like the (2014-18) 6.1 95. Imo, it's as much a part of the Vcore line, as the Extreme Tour is a part of the Extreme line.

It depends on which VCORE you're talking about...the 95, 98, and 100 all have different beam widths (as do the EZONE 98/100).

Comparing the 98s, the EZONE 98 is 19mm at the throat, 24mm at its thickest point (around 3 & 9?) and 23mm at the tip. The new VCORE 98 is 21mm at the throat, 23mm at it's thickest point, and 22.5 at the tip (the previous VCORE was 21/22/22, respectively).

So, for the 98s, the VCORE is thicker at the throat, but thinner everywhere else.

I used to play with Ezone 100 racquets, but they were being little harsh to my elbow, 1 year ago moved to vcore pro 100 due to the softness (ra65), but miss the heavy serves. Would this new vcore 100 an answer for that? Low ra of 66 with more power?

If someone used both, I would like to hear about the experience with both.

Thanks for the feedback (no pun intended).

Did you playtest any of the ezone 2018? I've read that they are stiffer throughout the hoop and provide a firmer response. For some yonex fans, it is a negative, but I've read some here find it a positive.

I had no issues playing with this racquet unlike all other yonexes after that. Also for me SV98 easily beats VC98 2019 and 2021.

Ezone 2018 didn’t have the legendary flexy throat of Dr and played more harsh on contact. Not sth major but it was just more crisp. Dr was also way more plush. But for me ezone 98 was easier to play with..... DR98 was very cumbersome for the 1HB. Imagine ezone 98 305gr with the feel of Dr..... magic! I hate ezone 98 2020.... 100 version is good but overpowered.

I tried the SV95 and wanted to like it but it was brassy, hollow feeling and unforgiving outside the sweet spot.

The 2018 VC95 is really comfortable and the flex is not to everyone's taste. I didn't mind it really, I've tried so many rackets that I can pretty much play with anything. I didn't like it at the beginning but eventually grew on me and it was the only thing available I could play with that allowed me to tolerate the pain on my wrist. In the end I left it behind because my wrist is healthier (thank you lockdown) and because I would get pushed around. Its like playing at a disadvantage when everyone plays with Pure Drives/ Aeros. The 2018 VC95 is only getting attention now because of the Tennis Spin video. Even the Tennis Nerd went back to it even though he knocked it when it came out. So now the idea is that it is a great racket and everyone wants to try it, and it is but why make tennis more difficult? Just like with the mad TW Project One 7 Pure Strike review, everyone jumped on it like sharks and then got sore arms typical of Babolats. In the end we are manipulated by these reviews more so than the marketing that we all know so well from these racket companies, so its probably healthier to skip them and try a racket with an open mind.

The transition from the 2018 VC95 to the 98 for me was pretty seamless. I felt like tennis was easy again and results also showed. Even just for how good it serves compared to the VC95 it was worth it. Sure I felt more comfortable attacking with the VC95 when playing out of my mind but that happens every once in a while so it isn't really worth it. Easier to play with and my wrist was holding up so it was all positives except how it was hard to control at times.

In the end the new 2020 VC98 with its dampening is exactly what I wanted. More comfort and a feeling of having more control and stability than the previous version. I don't mind the color, I'm not a big red fan anyway but can't complain when the racket plays great. To me the dampening is worth it, it is a better racket than the previous one.

Not sure where this «tennisnerd knocked the VCore 95» comes from, but I’ve read it a few other places (from others), and I think you’re mixing the 95 and 98 (2018s). The 95 he really liked both in his video and written review, just go back and check. The 98 he did knock.

VC95.21 notes:
Weight (with Volkl V-Torque Tour 19g/PRCW18g, Wilson overgrip, extras silicone band): 333g
Balance: 317mm
Background: I'd tried the SV95 and VC95.18, and liked them. They reminded me of the 6.1 95 16x18, which I'd played for 2 years before the RF97.
The VC95.21 plays stiffer than the VC95.18, which I'd played with heavily modded stick just 2 weeks ago on a racquet exchange challenge. I remember the SV95 was stiffer, with very crisp feel of ball pocketing and bite. Through VC95.21's very good but still muted feel, I could tell the flex is more in the throat, whereas the VC95.18 had better feel and flexed more mid hoop (albeit because there was significant weight at 2/10), with the SV95's feel was crisper in ball pocketing feel and has a very uniformed flex. Being that player's pro stock style racquet, the VC95.21 is definitely a control frame that allows (and forces you) to swing out to generate pace. The top hoop still needs some weight to stabilize the frame. I think the sweet spot is generously big and the racquet allows a player to do his thing. I wasn't afraid to swing out 90% of the time, whereas with my current SV98+, I'd play 75% because of the power.
Overall, the VC95.21 is a confused child of the VC95.18 and SV95. It is closer to the stiffness and power of the SV95, but the slightly more muted feel of the VC95.18. It can take much mods to make it your own stick, and it's tempting for 5.0+/UTR10+ players who have fuller strokes and can generate their own pace to try it. I won't pick it because I need the extra power and bigger frame forgiveness from the SV98+ against 5.5s/10.5+, cos I'm in my mid 40s and can't make up for the 3 slower steps to the ball a 30+ yr old has, or the 4 steps a 20+ year old has. YMMV!

Of the 2, I like the 100 more, because of the forgiveness and extra power. I can hit out with top spin more, and don't have to work as hard. The 98 obviously has better control, but I feel not as whippy without mods.
Which of the three versions of the 95 would be your pick as the best version?

Does anyone know why the formal review scores for each of the new Vcore series racquets are not yet out on TW?
I believe the Vcore review started before the Radical review, but the Radical scores have been posted.
Just curious.

I've got about 10 hours with the new vcore 100. What a great frame !. He's doing everything right for me. A definite improvement from 2018 that I didn't like. I go with my ezon who I like too but vcore is even better.
As you wrote, they definitely improved the paint on the rocket. Ezone had paint chips after 2-4 hours of play and vcore still looks like new after 10 hours.

Umm I hate to say it, but it depends. The SV95 was a direct stick, crisply stiff and predictable. The VC95.18 is softer, with better feel, stabler but with all that linertech, the stringbed reacted a little differently, and for me, didn't have the "swingability" of the SV95, and played less powerful and more controlled. The VC95.21 adds a little power, and stiffness, but feel is more muted. It's basically the SV95 and VC95.18 mutation with EZ DNA.
For my game, I like the SV95 for the stiff swingability, but don't mind the added power of the VC.21, but not the muted feel. The VC.18 for me is not the one I'd choose, except for the feel! haha

I use currently the newest Ezone 100. Great racquet although I do sometimes feel the stiffness in my shoulder. If I warm up really well, it feels a bit better. I used to play with a Volkl V-Sense V1 Pro which is probably quite similar to the VCore Pro 100. Now that I have used the Ezone 100 for 6 months or so I don't think I will go back to a racquet with less power even though it might be somewhat more comfortable. I would first try a slightly softer string, for example the new Tecnifibre Triax which is more our less a hybrid string. That could improve the feel quite a lot, if you are currently using poly strings. I have ordered a demo of the new Vcore 100 and will receive it next week. I´ll write here my impressions as soon as I have played a few hours with it. I am no expert but for sure the stiffness rating (strung) of Vcore100 (66) compared to the Ezone100 (69) should have some impact. My Volkl had a stiffness of 66 and it definitely felt less stiff than my Ezone 100. However, stiffness rating is not the whole story as it is only measured at the racquets throat.

Probably best option would be to schedule a demo. That way you will know for sure.

Ezone 100 has more power but Vcore has much better rotation. When it comes to comfort, with VDM both rackets are comfortable, but the vcore is a bit more comfortable

Watching him now. It’s a matt finish, not gloss so it’s a retail 2021 95! Which makes perfect sense as he TW sponsored. :)

Zoomed in on a few frames from the Zverev match, and the hoop shape looks like it's still the 2018 version. Don't know if it's a retail frame, but the new look is probably just a pj.

Just some short reflections on the Vcore 98 2021 after only two hours of hitting, this is to compared to my two Vcore 98 Galaxy from the generation before.

Setup for both generations:

Yellow Poly tour pro @ 48.5 LBS (22 KG)
Leather grip (20g) + Yonex supergrap
Yonex vibration dampener

  • Seems like Yonex has struggled with quality control for these, I paid for specification matching and ended up receiving quite modified frames, this has not been the case with previous Yonex I have purchased, this has also been witnessed on other channels such as TennisNerd. Weight was in line (+/-2g) but not SW/Balance.
  • VC2021 is definitely more dampened and comfortable, which compromises some of the feel that of the generation before.
  • Power level seems to be same as the previous gen.
  • Sweetspot seems to be same as the previous gen.
  • Spin potential is definitely improved in the new generation.
  • Volley is lacking a bit due to lack of feel.

Summary: Looking forward to testing these out more hours, two hours is really not enough to be able to draw any conclusions, overall I prefer the generation before as of now. Due to the added comfortability and issues I'm facing with my wrist I'll most likely switch to the new generation anyhow.
