Newbie Question - Finding Used Machines / Increase in Prices?

Looking to start stringing myself. I was thinking a used machine with some of the higher end features would be the way to go.

BUT - it seems like I can't find any used machines out there - checked the "3bay", C-list, local classifieds, another site that sells used stringing machines. Nada.

Saw a few recent posts on TW, but looks like I was to late or the person doesn't want to ship.

So, where the heck can you find used machines?

Also, in going through the threads with stringing machine reviews, it looks like machine prices have gone up by $20-$50 on average. I wonder what's up with that?

Since I've been stumped on the used machine end, been looking at the Eagnas Challenger I - it fits my budget and it has some of the features that look like it might make stringing less frustrating for me.

Used machines do come up from time to time. You sometimes just have to wait until a decent machine to your likes comes avail. as it is every so often. Just keep an eye on the classified ads on this site, and the big internet auction site, as over time they are avail. every so often.

If I were you, I'd spend couple hundred bucks on a new one and start saving right away. Some of the used machines are not that cheap anyway after adding shipping, tools, etc... not to mention that some parts may not work properly when you get it.

Good luck getting one !

patience pays off. I waited for a few years to find a decent star 3 or 4. Finally found a star 4. In the meantime, I was content with a SP and then Neos.

Just be patient, and continue looking every few days.

search "stringing" on the auction site.

A few years ago I bought a used Alpha Pioneer. It took weeks of watching the auction site before I found this one.

Shipping is expensive for machine that can weigh around 45 lbs and are rather large and bulky.

You really can't go wrong with a new Klippermate. I've used them too and they work great.

Cragislist, if you live in a Metropolitan area, chances are you can find a good used machine pretty easily, with a little patience. I waited about 6 months before I got my first stringer. Most people are willing to part with lower end machines than higher end one. The higher end ones are typically beat up, where as the lower end are mainly used for personal stringing.

Try Tennismachinesinc.com. They usually have used machines that they have reconditioned and are in excellent shape.

This is a search that will take most likely a couple months, not weeks. It's tennis season so I would think those that want to sell would rather do so until after the season is over. I'd give the search until year end

unfortunately used machines don't appear on demand. i started w/ a used eagnas, then picked up another used eagnas before i was able to find a neos in good condition. took about six months before i landed the neos so patience and tenacity is key.
