Next player to win a slam not named Federer, Djokovic, Nadal

Honestly would not surprise me. He is showing some flashes of his old form. If he can avoid Nadal or Federer (although once fully back in form he can beat Fed at RG if they meet, but probably not at any other slam) I could see him sneaking one last one out. We all know he can beat Djokovic.

If anything in this life is certain, If history has taught us anything, it's that the next gen, lost gen, gold, silver, bronze and platinum gen can't beat anyone. Slams for big 3 until 2045, Tom.

At present, it certainly looks that way. Each of the three ganddaddies could be reduced to nothing more than a head connected to a car battery and they would still run over the past 2+ genrrations.

Someone at the USO this year.I don't know why but I don't see Djokovic defending his USO title.Thiem or Tsitsipas or maybe even Zverev if we're going Twin Peaks mode.

I think it will be Tsitsipas and I think it could happen as early as the AO. It wouldn't surprise me if he made it to the QF of the USO and used the confidence garnered from that to make the break through at the AO/

My only alternate pick is FAA but I'm not as sold on his potential as many here are.

At this point Thiem and Tittypas have the best chances, and it’s not very high. Thiem will run into a big brick wall called the king of clay each year and Stefanos is still pretty young and inexperienced. FAA is probably my third pick, or Zverev if he ever gets his crap together.

Though I don’t expect Raonic or Nishikori to ever beat the big 3 in a slam, I do trust them more than the next gen to make it through the draw if someone manages to take out the big 3. So they’re also in the mix.

It is not important "who" but "when". Big 3 in their thirties have won last 11 Slams in a row - someone should stop them asap.

I am curious as to why so many think that Felix Auger-Aliassime will win Grand Slams? What is it that I am not seeing in his game?

I'd have to say the exact same thing I'm not seeing. I added him as my alternate to win a GS based on all the whoopla not anything that I've seen that gets me excited. I guess we should all keep in mind that Zverev was supposed to be the next ATG, I never saw it, and look how that turned out. (and yes I know there's still time but....)

perhaps he has guts, or what other would call balls?

They all have balls, they're yellow and get frequently with large rackets.

some tend to forget them at home, and then mask it with respect for the ATGs or the top of the tour, aka politely waiting Roger, Nole and Rafa to retire before they try to win a GS or attempt at #1 in ranking.
FAA looks like a hungry lion.
While he might lack certain traits, one shall not underestimate the mental side of the game.

Mental side of the game is important but so are skills. Until I see the skills, I won't understand the hype. And frankly I see the same hunger in many of them so I don't think FAA stands out.

Like I said I posted him as an alternative because of the hype. I'll believe it when I see it.

you mean a true NextGen? :-D

Seriously, I don't really like any of the young players, except for the two Canadians, Shapovalov and FAA. I think Thiem could win RG some of these years if Nadal gets injured or something like that...

I agree with what you said except the hunger part. I do not see hunger in many of them. So for me that makes FAA stand out. I agree with you though I dont know if the actual game and weaponary are enough, but he is so young still.

Thiem will get a FO when Nadal completely falls off a cliff so maybe 2022-2023. Rafa is still the favorite for the next 2 years i think.

Thiem at the 2022 French Open. I'm done predicting the big 3 will fall off any time soon. The gap between them and the top younger guys looked as large as ever at Wimbledon.

The man’s name is Medvedev. He’ll do it against an aging Novak several times. And the boring baseline defensive battles will ruin tennis.

Let it be Zverev or Medvedev.

Although, how cool would it be to have Shapo winning something after Djokovic / Nadal dominnace?
Perhaps some kids would start learning how to hit winners as opposed to wait mistakes.

Let it be ANYONE BUT Zverev or Medvedev!

Unless its Mischa Zverev or Andrei Medvedev :)
