NextGen getting cocky?

I discount Zverev win over Nadal simply because until that FH and 2nd serve is sorted out he isnt beating any top 10 player over 5 sets sadly. Nice guy, much work ahead in close season.
agreed on the last point but he can beat anyone on any given day now, and that is all we need.

Rather than think about which young guy could beat everyone, let’s think about how many guys the Big 3 can lose to and the math is starting to add up.

For Fedalovic, not only will they have to beat each other now, but they will have to bring their best against Thiem, Z, Tsits, Medvedev too. That sets the stage for a lot more upsets.

So 3 slams now is pathetic?

Kuerten is a pathetic player? Stan also? Sir Mandy?
Did I say pathetic? When you say "this is my F'n time now," you better back it up or just looks silly. It is not his time now, nor would a 3 slam career mean it was his time.

Would you say Wawa had "his time?" I would say he had a few moments in a long career. It is not about 3 slams being "great" or not, but his time? :-D

If Zverev wins 3 slams, then absolutely he has the right to call it his time.

3 slams is a great career, even during the Inflation era.

He is LostGen.

LostGen is 1989-1994, NextGen is 1995-2000.

2001 onwards is SinnerGen.
Slight edit...NextGen 2017, its first iteration, eliminated anyone born before 1996, not 1995. Medvedev, Chung, Berrettini, Khachanov and Coric are the oldest of NextGen. Youngest of LostGen extrapolated to non-NextGen players inside the top 50 are Pouille, Kyrgios and Djere.

Sadly, unless one or more SinnerGen members are late blossomers, which could happen (watch Alcaraz Garfia on clay), Sinner is head and shoulders above that next generation. I should amend that statement to say I won’t be unhappy at all if that is the case because I am a full-fledged Sinner and believe he is the next double-digit Slam champion.

I don't like Sinner because he has the demenour of a yuppie accountant, i.e. boring and arrogant, but I am sure he will dominate in some future era...

Not his game, his personality is boring.

The arrogance is something that one detects or fails to do...
Or an imaginary foible a potential detractor fabricates to build a false flaw. The kid just mentioned he’ll take just a few days off at home with his family and friends, who treat him with little or no difference from his pre-successful 2019.

I can detect a hater in the making.

I would love to see Fedalovic slam the door on them again lol
Tsitsipas said that ??

What has the bolded part got to do with anything? I didn't even know this.

I detect a non-sequiuterer in the making.

Besides, a hater of haters is also a hater...

These young guys have good reason to feel confident about beating the Big 3. They've been beating them this year. The question mark is can they beat everyone else consistently enough to make it to the final weekend of a Slam. For that, they have little reason for confidence at this stage.

The bolded part has to do with the fact that an 18-year-old already realizes there are few days off when in pursuit of some lofty goals. No time for arrogance.

I can hate as much as I like anyone that makes up pure bullsheet like you are already spreading. I dare you to find one comment made by the teen that any rational person would perceive as being arrogant.

Talk about being delusional... Tin Henman must be doing heavy drugs to say this today about Stefanos:

"It has been an unbelievable year (for Tsitsipas), a breakthrough year; he came to this event to give it one last push and he will be mentally and physically exhausted because he's put so much into it."

How about winning a major? An "unbelievable year" is Chang and Wilander winning the FO at age 17, Boris winning Wimbledon at 17, Pete/Rafa winning slams at 19...

The word unbelievable is now a synonym of good.

Well... can't say they aren't getting closer. It prob has more to do with the big 3 aging but having the confidence is not a bad thing. You have to believe you're gonna do it before you actually do it.

It has come too late, because of the lost generation. The next gen is doing it right. Now we have no.4-8 filled with young guys things look more normal. This will also serve as motivation for guys lurking, Shapovalov(no. 15), Khachanov(17), de Minaur(18), Auger-Aliassime(21), Rublev(23), Coric(28), Kyrgios(30), Fritz(32), Garin(33), Opelka(36), Hurkacz(37), Tiafoe(47), and many more who are 23 and under. Finally, we may have a new no.1 in 2020/2021.

As I said before, arrogance can often be detected, just as words can be read between the lines.

And I still don't understand what your example has to do with arrogance or the lack of it.

Of course, it is hardest for arrogance to recognize other arrogance, because it lacks the ability to recognize it within themselves...

I am a joy to my foes too...

You're enjoying this, otherwise you wouldn't be replying every time, right...?

And don't mistake your own confusion with my imagined hatred... The two are wholly unrelated, and one of them doesn't even exist...

Tsitsipas is 21 and has beaten all 3 of them this year.
He also lost in the 1st Round of 2 slams.

Zverev has beaten them all in M1000's.

Hasn't translated to slam win(s). That's the real goal. They've made good strides, even in some slams. But goose egg on wins.

I like Tsitsipas and do think he has slam titles in his future but he has a long way to go. WTF champ to slam champ is not an insignificant jump in degree of difficulty. To win a slam, you'll very likely have to beat at least 2 of the big 3, if not all 3 in a Bo5. Plus all the other young guys that are starting to improve.

But yeah, if people keep saying someone new will win they will be right eventually, I mean big 3 aren't immortal.. so to that I say about time.

They're certainly the hairs apparent!

I want teenage Sinner to do it if anyone.
Sinner is an impressive ball striker but need to improve tactically. He could get there and is more likely than most, but very far from a lock. We've seen a lot of bashers come and go. The big 3 might just be old enough for him to avoid accumulating too much psychological damage before they retire.

Why would a player not refer to themselves in this instance? There's no benefit conferred to Tsitsipas if (say) Medvedev wins a slam. He has no interest in a Nextgen player other than himself winning a slam title. If it's not him, it might as well be Nadal and Djokovic once again splitting the titles.

With the lousy reputation the young guys have, probably best for them to shut their holes and let their racquets do the talking.

I think they might be right, and frankly tennis badly needs the youngsters to step up and break the Top 3 oligopoly on the slams.

That being said, and as much as I like his style of play, I think Tsitsipas is getting bit ahead of himself, and at times sounds like his head is getting inflated.

Which contrasts with Thiem, who is always humble to a fault.

As for Zverev, he has quite a lot of work ahead of him to get there.

Vamos Rafa Nadal

I think Rafa and Novak will dominate 2020 for one last time, and then it will change in 2021. My gut intuition - barring injuries - is that we will have one final hurrah of domination by Nadal and Djokovic next year. (Either 2 and 2, or 3 and 1)...

The only one of them that has proven of any use at all is Thiem. All Tsitsipas does is beat Federer at the wrong times as if he's not annoying enough already. Medvedev when he's not acting looney.

This isn't the first time they've been hyped. Let's see them deliver a slam and then they can talk.

P.S. Medvedev and Tsitsipas have been the two that have caught fire late in the season. The world number 1 Rafa Nadal is 7 - 1 against them combined this year. Keep trying fellas. Ironically the one loss came against Tsitsipas on clay.
