NextGen getting cocky?

He also lost in the 1st Round of 2 slams.

Zverev has beaten them all in M1000's.

Hasn't translated to slam win(s). That's the real goal. They've made good strides, even in some slams. But goose egg on wins.

I like Tsitsipas and do think he has slam titles in his future but he has a long way to go. WTF champ to slam champ is not an insignificant jump in degree of difficulty. To win a slam, you'll very likely have to beat at least 2 of the big 3, if not all 3 in a Bo5. Plus all the other young guys that are starting to improve.

But yeah, if people keep saying someone new will win they will be right eventually, I mean big 3 aren't immortal.. so to that I say about time.
Tpas won his first title little over a year ago. His rise has been utterly amazing this year. Winning WTF so soon is incredible. Neither Novak or Federer won it that young.

Zverev: 'I think next year will bring a new Grand Slam champion. We'll see who that will be'

Tsitsipas: 'I'm really close on being crowned Grand Slam champion'

Thiem: 'I'm pretty sure that we're going to see a new a young Grand Slam champion next year'

I would love to see Fedalovic slam the door on them again lol

It's ok to have self-belief. But keep it to yourself. Don't let other players hear it. Especially when you are still unproven.
Tsits revealed his plans for 2019 a year ago - well, everything came true, and more.
Is it brave of brainless, doesn't matter))

But - what does Medvedev say?? Keeps it to himself, eh? )

ATP just desperately want a future ATG to emerge now, just somehow, someway and anyhow.

Maybe they should show some appreciation for the ATGs they have right now except Federer.

I remember the hype Khachanov or Zverev got after last year.Look where are they now??

ATGs just do not emerge like that..They are product of near child abuse, case of Nadal, product of a live war flattening the cities, case of djokovic. .

The more they want an ATG,the further it might not even come..

Have any example of what he said?
Djokovic said in a post match press conference that he was fully in control of his match against Nadal despite being down 2 sets to love (RG2006) and then retiring before the 3rd.
Before a 2007 fourth-round Aussie Open meeting with Federer, a young Novak Djokovic boldly crowed, “I have only three words for Federer: ‘He’s going down.'”
Federer wasn't amused by the comments as he felt Djokovic was being disrespectful and brash.
It's probably safe to say that Tsitsipas is an angel compared to the type of guy Djokovic was early on.:-D

Thiem, lmao. Thiem is 26. By that age, all the Big 3 were all time greats. The ship has sailed for Thiem unfortunately, but the other guys still have potential. Probably will still have to wait till the Big 3 retire or at least decline significantly.

Stanimal didn't win his first slam until he was almost 29.
Nobody said Thiem was going to be an all time great. But people are saying he's capable of winning the biggest titles.

Thiem looks tough enough mentally and physically to win a slam (no surprise, he's way older than the NextGens), and quite crucially he loves playing Federer on all surfaces :)

Tsitsipas and Thiem aren’t really part of the same generation, they’re 5 years apart.

The original ‘nextgen’ has been almost as bad as the lost generation before them. Remember when everyone thought tennis would be dominated by Zverev and Kyrgios? Lmao

It’s the NextNextGen who seem more likely to actually win some majors soon

i think the younger players are going to start taking over next year...
it looks like theyre becoming fitter and in some cases can outhit
the usual 3 suspects...
Nah, I think the slams are safe for now. But obviously the old dudes aren't giving it all in the Masters etc, rightfully so.

They also don't have the same motivation to win smaller tournaments as the younger guys, as they've done it all before.

MIGHT see a new finalist in Australia, and USO. But I think its the usual guys at RG and Wimbledon.
Hell, Fed even got to the SF at RG after not playing on clay for years. That says it all about anyones clay chances, and when Nadal is getting to SF at Wimbledon these days, well, nothing needs to be said about that.

I think he is peaking right now. His pace and weight of shot at the WTF was insane.
