What is the list criteria ? I agree Berrettini doesn't deserve to be in tier 1, because other 3 all have at least a slam finals and at least a masters and a tour finals. Berrettini only has a slam final.

But why will he clumped with Sinner and Shapovalov? They have nothing.

Fair point. There's a strong case to be made that they should lead Tier III. My criteria is eye test/(near) future expectations at this point in their careers.

Is Norrie in tier iii because of Queens' final? I'd stick him in iv.

Ruud belongs in Tier 2 IMO. I'd also put ADF and perhaps Bublik on the same tier as Korda, whether that means moving them up or Sebastian down. De Minaur is a name not on there; he probably slots into tier 3. Otherwise, it's a good list.

Good post.

A few observations:
Sinner, FAA, Alcarez, Korda, Musetti are all very young. I can definitely imagine those guys winning slams, but I can also imagine them becoming the next Dimitrov or Nishikori.

I could also see them never reaching the heights of Dimitrov or Nishikori. Probably depends on if Novak plays into his 40s, maybe WTFs and slam finals will be even easier to get in the future.

Dimitrov and Nishikori didn't even reach a masters final at their age. Sinner is far ahead of Dimitrov and Nishikori. He is just 19 or 20 I guess.

You think all of those guys will reach #3 in the world and win a WTF? One, maybe two of them, would be my guess. Likely some won’t ever even be top 10.

And if they’d all been born the year Berdych and Tsonga were, they’d never make the top 3.

Move Shapo and Sinner down, put Zverev at #1, and it's good.

Good job - nothing jumps out at me as "wrong" here.
Med/Tsit/Z have done enough, I think, to separate themselves from Berr, Rublev, etc.
...
Would you say that this list is mostly based on what they've done thus far, present value, or projection to the future...or a bit of a combination

Basically it's a bit of both, it's what I think their present and near future (think-next year) value is.

I like Sinner, but he’s got a ways to go and a lot to prove to be a top player. Maybe he’ll get there, or maybe he won’t.

If improvement was guaranteed with time then Zverev and Shapovalov would be top 2 right now.
He has made RG quarters at 19 years age. He has a masters final and 500 title already. 3/4 or 4/5 something in finals right now. He will definitely be top 5 and very likely better world no. 3 than lucky Grigor ever was. He didn't even beat Fred till what Fred got injured? Has beaten Rafa once I guess. Won his WTF by pure luck facing Jack Sock.

Sinner will most likely never be top 3. Zverev, Medvedev, and Tsitsipas will dominate the top 3 (once Novak is gone) for at least 5-7 years (most likely more). Medvedev is the only one of the 3 who is considerably "weaker" on clay but the amount of points that he will get on HC will keep him in the top 3.

Sinner being only 3-4 years younger than Tsitsipas and Zverev does not help him either.

Sinner already has wins over Zverev and Tsitsipas, and as you point out he's 3-4 years younger. I think he has a chance as much as any, once Novak hangs up his racquet.

Too bad for the NextGen that there is still a Tier 0 ATG who eats, shoots, and leaves (also eats shoots and leaves).
