It's about time!

You know the drill: pick a team you expect to win; you may only pick that team once; predict the scoring differential for tiebreaker purposes only; if multiple participants are the last ones standing, the cumulative variance from actual scores will break any ties.

An added twist from last year: you can only pick against a team three times, thus avoiding all you sadistic basterds rolling on my NY Jets every week!

Whose in? Respond with a poast!

Week 1:

Using up your favorite team the first week?

It's actually not a bad pick except for East Coast teams on the West Coast. Week #1 is the best week to buck that trend though.

C'mon you regulars and any newbies! It was fun last season!!!

I'm in! No idea who i'll go with first. If Friday is anything to go by, half the league will be injured by opening weekend :p

Edelman and Ware were the big ones. So an impact on the opening night game.

We also need 1 more player for the TW Fantasy Football league, with the draft set to take place tonight at 8. If anyone wants in on that, the thread is around here on the first page.

Well the other week in the AFL I tipped against my team for the first time ever and they ended up winning,
I lost the tip and got every other one right, so I've learnt my lesson,
so I feel the need to go Panthers first up, although from memory I did tipping with oz last year and I haven't been as loyal to the Panthers as I am the Cats! Also my other reason is we are playing SF which is my dads team so would be even better if I got that one right :p

To all considering Tampa at Miami: the game has been rescheduled for Week 11 due to Irma La Deuce.

This was a pick em game anyway but I have to post this change for formalities.

Damn Patriots. I don't even like them and the one time I pick them they lose. Was banking on their reliability as a consistently good team to get me through Week 1. In hindsight, I probably should've picked Pittsburgh, sticking with Cleveland's reliability of being a terrible team.

Andy Reid with time to install a game plan is a very dangerous opponent.

Yeah, he's got a great record after a bye week doesn't he?
He hasn't been overwhelming in season openers (11-8 now) but he's a remarkable 8-3 on the road and most of the overall losses were early in his tenure at Philly and in close games (4 losses by 10 points combined). At one point he was 1-6 in season openers.

Yikes, things not looking for for the Texans right now. They benched Savage at the half and now are down 26-7 in the 4th...

I'll take Carolina by 6, not many other options at this point. :(

More than happy to be proved wrong on that one!

That's the good thing about picking against a team you have a soft spot for, you win either way :D

Should I keep track manually with the 3-time limitation on "pigeons"???

Oh yeah I forgot about that, yeah if it's easier, or if you want to add in a section in the google sheets, then that's cool too. I'll try and work on it tomorrow if I can, since I'm about done for the day at the office. :p

Week 2: RAIDERS just win baby vs my grounded Jets. By 21.

Is that like your hometown team?

I don't know, I feel like it's a bad omen to pick against my hometown team, even if I can't or don't really consider myself a fan. Seems like every time I do, that game ends up being so much less straight forward than I expect it to be.

Like some years ago back in 2010 (I looked it up because I remember it was a MNF game in December) I got tickets from my cousin to the Texans vs Ravens game. It was my brother and I whom received the tickets from our cousin because she couldn't use them for some reason. I had put like a small amount on the Ravens to cover the spread which was maybe like a field goal or less. Anyway, the Ravens dominated the first half, and I think they had a kickoff return for a touchdown late in the 2nd quarter to go up something like 28-7 at the half. My brother and I were like okay, if this gets out of hand like another Ravens td without the Texans scoring anything, then we're walking out. Texans ended up roaring back in the second half. They scored a crazy touchdown on a drive that was essentially the ball game. They scored with either no time left in regulation or only a few seconds. Then they needed the 2-pt conversion to tie the game, which they got and everyone in the stadium was going nuts. Then they play ot - and boom - Matt Schaub throws a pick-six when the Texans were backed up deep in their own territory. I've never heard the stadium that quiet before, you could hear a pin drop as the Baltimore defender waltzed into the end zone. I can't believe that was 7 years ago... Freaking time flies. :(
