Safin's pretty nice when he's talking to the crowd. But, you have to remember that the crowd he's talking to is mostly cute, overbreasted, underclothed girls that most any of us would be nice to.

Coria or Nalbandian the worst. During his match against Agassi, Coria called a line judge a "punta" because of call he disagreed with. I believe that means female dog in Spanish.

Kuerten one of the nicest prior to his injury, perhaps - but not since. Since his hip injury, he has been downright ornery on the court on far more than one occasion. He clearly does not enjoy the game as much now as he did prior to the injury.
Some member of this board (perhaps 'Fee'?) once told a surprising story of Henman berating a ball boy...
As for nice guys... I ran across this little story, from last year's U.S. Open:
Jiri Novak was justifiably upset after a 13-year-old ball boy fainted while chasing a ball in the first hour of his match and the US Open first-aid unit took 15-28 minutes (depending on accounts) to show up. "He was laying there like he was dead, so we ran to him," Novak told the New York Times. "I took water and a towel, but for 20 to 30 seconds he was out. He woke up and was asking us: 'What's my name? Where am I?' I was really scared. I didn't know what to do. The strange thing is that here at the US Open, you've got security and you've got thousands and thousands of policemen, and we called the doctor and for 20 minutes nobody came. We were just lucky that the boy was all right."...

A tennis playing friend of mine has a young sister who won through to the finals of a junior tournament sponsered by a UK clearing bank.The final was to be played in front of non other than Tim Henman who allegedly spent the entire match in the club bar playing pool! Doesnt make him a bad guy but he knows how to handle the media image-wise .I think Rusedski is on e of those guys whose media image is bad but is actually quite a decent bloke off the court-also he upset Pat Cash which is no bad thing in my book.

I think the nicest guy on tour is Roger Federer. He is so modest about all his accomplishments and doings and appears really nice to the fans. I also think Andre Agassi(the Agassi of now) and Carlos Moya seem like pretty good guys.

amadextor, I really disagree with you about Haas being one of the nicest. I've seen and heard of him on many occassions yelling for towels, yelling at ball persons, even flipping the **** while playing. He to me seems like an arrogant, pretty boy.

federer isnt't nice to fans. i was sitting at the players entrance aty the us open final and i was holding a tennis mag with him on the cover when he was going back in after he won. he walked into my arm but wouldnt bother to sign it.b*tch

Players shouldn't always be expected to sign. If he signed all the time, it would take up half his time, and I'm sure he had more things on his mind than signing a magazine, especially right after he won a major tournament.
I got his autograph twice at one tourney, one for me and one for a friend, and he was always smiling and talking with fans.

Deuce, there was an article on tennisone.com after last year's IW from the ballkids coordinator that someone posted here (it wasn't me). The author of the essay mentioned Tim as rude, Tommy as foul-mouthed (duh) and Kim and Roger as wonderful, or something like that. I wonder if that's still lurking around here since it was on the old board...
I find this thread very interesting. Not sure if we are talking about on-court behavior, off-court behavior, or both. In my experience, every player is human, which means they are nice and accomodating sometimes, and cranky and oblivious other times. But for some reason, I just have to laugh when I see glowing reports of Tommy Haas. I swear, I'm very fond of the guy based on my experiences with him in the past year, but he was flat out rude to me in LA last summer (and I was not pleased, it's not like I'm a complete stranger to him) and then he was just adorable in San Jose. He always seemed to be in a hurry in IW this year, but he tried to take a few photos and sign a few things for people as he went along his way. He can be very charming when he wants to (usually when there are pretty blondes nearby). I've seen Marat rude, and nice; Andy sign everything in sight with his own sharpie marker, and running away from fans to get back to the players' lounge; Guga interrupt his own breakfast to sign and take photos, then later in the day have an escort so he can avoid the crowds. I think it all just depends on the player's mood, and their schedule and obligations at the time. I can't think of anyone that I've ever heard of who is consistently horrible to people.

I think I read the article you are referring to...no, it mentioned Roger as not very nice, or hurried.
You know, it's important for these guys to be nice to fans. So of course when you hear about bad experiences you hope they'll be better next time. I suppose you have to cut them a little slack, they seem like nice guys, but everybody has bad days. You never hear about the over-zealous autograph seekers that are jerks in disguise though.
I suppose sometimes the guys just want to get away from all the fame and fanaticism. They aren't perfect, they are only human. There are two extremes: Not expecting them to set a good example, and expecting them to be perfect.
By far the majority of fan experiences I hear about Roddick and Federer and the rest, are good and positive ones.
Unless you have the whole story, you can't really make a judgement. After all, would you want to sign for an kid or adult that knocks others over to get a simple autograph or something? I've heard of that kind of stuff before.

BLAKE is great to fans. I guess coming from harvard, has made him a very friendly and approchable guy. He really gets the crowd involved in matches.

Blake does seem like a nice guy, but I don't think "coming from Harvard" has anything to do with that.
One thing you have to keep in mind is these guys are human, they have moods, and they are hounded constantly by overzealous fans. Would you want to sign autographs for a million people after having a lousy practice session? Or if you weren't in a good mood? Or if you were hungry after an intense practice session/match? Etc..
