Nick. Interview. Classic.

G.O.A.T.
This portion running through it: :D

Q. John McEnroe has said he didn't think you were trying at the end. Were you trying?

NICK KYRGIOS: Well, my body was sore. I was hurting. I mean, John McEnroe, was it John McEnroe? Good on him. Great career. Good on him.
...
Q. Was it a sharp pain out there?

NICK KYRGIOS: I don't know, mate. Ask Johnny Mack.
NICK KYRGIOS: He knows everything.
...
Q. Are you still consulting a sports psychologist?

NICK KYRGIOS: I am. It's going very well.
Q. Is that in person here this week or just over the phone?

NICK KYRGIOS: Johnny Mack will know, mate. Just talk to him. He knows everything.

Kyrgios's other big problem was that in the 5th set he did really want it but couldn't quite get the job done.

People should read the whole interview :)

Apparently he inured his knee during the off-season while playing basketball :)

His knee injury was at its worst in the 4th set causing him to tank, but largely recovered by the 5th allowing him to start trying again. His defeat had precious little to do with how "banged up" his body was from playing basketball (IMO).

Why does every interviewer for Nick just regurgitate what someone else has said, as if they're trying to make him feel bad or something. Like, honestly, what a stupid thing to say. I don't know what they expect him to say? He's not always the most well-behaved person, but in some cases -- this being one of them -- he is right.

Not every interviewer just regurgitates what someone else has said. I think it was Wimbledon 2016 (may have been 2015) when Kyrgios went through a stage of the match where he was letting Gasquet's serves go past him for aces. When the interviewer asked him why he didn't try, Kyrgios's reaction was just as prickly as when they quote Mcenroe saying he doesn't try. Probably the best way for Kyrgios not to be asked why he doesn't try...is for him to try.

People keep attacking the tweener but was the result a bad result, he got the ball back wasn't like he hit it and it went to the net. Don't get me wrong I think while he has huge talent he has too much showman in his game and when that isn't meshing with results he seems to get knocked down a peg and as of yet doesn't have the mental game to refocus and pick it back up. Not a huge knock he is young most young players don't have that. But I don't think he threw away the match as much as he just tossed away the fourth set....

And as someone mentioned in his pressers he is often being asked to speak on what has been said ABOUT him as opposed to just giving his own opinion and in that case he is in a no win situation and thankfully or sadly he is aware of that so he falls back into the rhythm that while perhaps childish he says ask them or like with the Federer questions he deflects.

In the end while his game is huge and he has so much talent and potential he hasn't even tapped into he is still immature mentally and with his tennis. Will he mature I hope so it would be a shame for him to be Tomic 2.0 especially with how much more talent he has....

It would have been better for him to retire from the match rather than look like he was just taking the mick. Because of his reputation for tanking everyone thought that this was just another tank job. He hasn't arrived yet so he will become a side show journey man if he doesn't win anything big soon.

To get to number 13 in the world is an achievement. I wish I could have done that.
That being said, Nick has some problems that he needs to address and I think he will only do this when he develops a bit more mental maturity.
He seems to over react to many little things that happen around him. Last night it seem to be an issue over his fitness training that he was apparently made to do the day before which he must have disagreed with and he was trying to prove a point by showing how sore and tired he was. So rather than compete against Seppi he was competing against his fitness trainer.
He hasn't got a coach because up until now he's probably not going to listen to them either.
It's quite embarrassing for many people who follow tennis in Australia. There are many people out there who would like Nick to do well but find his behaviour hard to cop.
I think Nick needs to realise that being a top pro player is a privilege and life time opportunity and not a right. I just hope that when he wakes up this morning he will have some regret and remorse about what he had done and continue to get some professional help.

I think there is not much more he could have said about the Mcnroe comments being in the moment that he was in. Perhaps in the future if he will be better we hope.

Yes it was more to do with his interaction with his fitness trainer than any pain he may have had.

I love it when he says something along the lines of "that's the one thing I need to get more serious about", but then says it about more than one aspect of his game and preparations.

Nick has already told us what he think of tennis and his desire to be out there. A shrink might help build a mask but his play and body language say something else. Same old.

As far as calling out JMac? Love him or hate him, he 'did it'. He can belittle Mac The Mouth all he wants, but until Nick crosses that threshold of of a Slam, he's just another punk that coulda been a contender.

Kyrgios is a turd; all that talent, but have no respect for his opponent or tennis in general. We don't need any expert to tell us that he's tanking. When you are entitled, after being blessed with physical talent, is just a shame. my opinion of course.

Him and Bernie Tomic are the worst bunch I have seen in quite some time. Although I have not heard of any Tomic news lately, I suppose that is a good thing.

A part of the interview that isnt mentioned here is the most striking to me:
He said that he had a bad pre-season training. He says that he should get a coach ("I'm the only one in the top 100 without a coach") and he already knew that but he just likes doing what he wants to do. "I just like being comfortable"

These words.. are so depressing to me. He couldn't sound less motivated if he tried. Like he's basically admitting that he trains horribly and that he doesn't know what he's doing but he doesn't feel like changing it because he's just comfortable like this. Can't believe I used to call him a future #1
