Nick Kyrgios Fan Club

Totally serious post, please do do not dismiss as trolling.

Some of us have been fans of Nick from the start. This thread is for us to celebrate Nick and what he brings to the game.

Why Nick?
I think this is a rare personality who can save tennis.
tennis had declined since Mac/Connors
Pro events are vacant, except slams.
Fans crave rivalries

Lendl was a boring zero personality robot.
Sampras too.
Fed .
Nadal doesn't speak English.

Andre is the last tennis player mass public noticed.
Him and Anna Cornucopia

Most people can't even name one pro tennis player anymore.
Today they all get along and never risk their endorsements.
Trash talk and rivals add color to the game

I like Nick's play in the video below
I love the variety in his game.
  1. He has drop shots and lobs.
  2. I love his sneak attack on serve return.
  3. That weird flat FH slap shot!
  4. The jumping moonball killer.

He gets a bad rap.
Wasted potential?
I say He is the pinnacle of dedication
He has gotten to #13.
He is a world class player.
No one gets to #13 without a decade of grueling daily practice.
He has worked harder at tennis than all of his detractors combined

Is he burnt out? I sure hope so.
Playing tennis 5 hours a day for 15 years straight can have that effect.
He is bored of something he's done for 15+ years. Who wouldn't be?
Good for him to realize life is more than just hitting a yellow ball your whole life.
The life of a tennis pro is harsh, painful, lonely, and risky.

GO NICK!

I give Tomic and Kyrgios props to reveal the dysfunction and obsession pro players have.

Love the fact that Nadal's limited English skills must mean he's "a zero personality robot"! Can no-one have a personality if they prefer to speak Spanish? ;)

Anna 'Cornucopia' lol. Seems to suit her somehow! :p

No thanks. The Kokkinakis/Wawrinka remarks that were beneath contemptible, the numerous episodes of being cited for lack of effort on the court and then complaining he didn't tell the fans to come to the match so he doesn't owe them anything (ummm, you do, you're paid to entertain them), and on and on. He seems to have no particular regard for other people and still worse likes to flaunt this aspect of himself. No, not rooting for this one.

Agree he should perform to his best ability, fans don’t get to choose who they watch when they buy a ticket and there’s no refund for a tank (I should have had my money back the one time I watched Nalbandian making zero effort),
That said he’s exciting to watch when focused so definitely a fan.

I say He is the pinnacle of dedication

A player who tanks matches, gets injured routinely, and whose ranking is like a roller coaster ride...those aren’t signs of dedication.

It’s a little scary to think about what NK could achieve - if he truly became dedicated.

Honestly, when you see someone making that run to win the title, without true motivation or passion for the sport, and with having problems (return, backhand), one just wonder, how much talented this guy is, & what's the highest level he can reach .

The hell?

Kyrgios doesn't need an echo chamber of deluded dimwits.

Mods please nuke this thread.

Perhaps being a top 100 player in the world?
Oh wait, he's already conquered that

 With Nick’s ability the bar would be pretty low, if being top 100 was the measure of dedication or success. This guy would be a fixture inside the top 10, maybe even the top 5 - if he consistently gave 100% effort, day in, day out. The only thing consistent about NK is that he is inconsistent.

Why Nick?

Because he's unpredictable, fun, unorthodox, a non-conformist in a ridiculously P.C. society, he's not manufactured or careful, prudent or bland like 98% of other tennis players. Because he is magnificently talented (incoming posts, "yeah, like how? 'Cause he like hits tweeners or whatever, like bfd..."), isn't cocky about it and is able to bring his BEST game against the big players. Name one other young player who does that? There are none.

As McEnroe, Wilander, Paul Annacone and even Rafa have all said: his talent is off the charts. He's easily the most talented player since Federer. He's not as great of a player obviously, but talent-wise he's ahead of everybody else except Roger and McEnroe.

And for the millioneth time: talent is something you are BORN with. It's not hard work, learned behavior or something that can be taught. It's innate.

These are actually all valid points. Nick's tanking is unprofessional and selfish. His remarks to Stan were beyond rude and contemptible. But we all make mistakes, hopefully learn from them and he's only 23. He's got another decade+ to remedy his past mistakes. Maybe he won't change his on-court BS, which'll be a shame. But if he does... watch out!

Like him or loathe him, there's just something about him that attracts interest from tennis watchers. It's because we know that he is capable of beating the best when he is so minded and we can never be sure when that will happen (admittedly not very often so far). One week we get him at his worst (Delray Beach) and feel sure he'll never amount to anything. The very next week we get Acapulco and the next minute we are speculating on him winning Slams (again). It's this fascination of not knowing when he will bring it but that he can bring it. Just when we are ready to rinse our hands of him he tears through a draw beating 3 top 10 players and a multiple Slam champion in a row. What he will do next week, God only knows! It's this fascination of not knowing with him and, to be honest, we can't help tuning in to see what antics he may or may not get up to.

He can certainly be a bad boy but he does have a likeable side as well which adds to the fascination.

certainly, and he may or may not. I couldn't stand Mac or Connors very early in their careers because they were obnoxious punks; liked both of them later in their careers because they both demonstrated love for and commitment to the game, and became at least somewhat more mature in their general behavior.

Adolescence is a medical condition that lasts into the twenties. It's good for the military as it makes young people feel indestructible. And it's good for society as it wakes up the old farts who run things.

Nick says he has a lot to learn from Zverev regarding professionalism and that "this is just the start... I think I need to do a lot better and I need to work a lot harder."

Can he tell it to himself enough times to actually do it?

He's damn right he competed very well in Acapulco 2019. Just being locked in makes him a threat for titles, but now comes the hard work in creating a stable platform and improving some fundamental aspects of his game.

Like I said before, I hope this is really the start of something.

A lot people thought my win in Acapulco was a fluke, and then I played him again a week and a half later at Indian Wells and won again in straight sets. Yep. Unbeatable.
I feel like I can beat anyone who steps out on the court. The match is on my racquet and the ultimate result is up to me"

Seen some amazing shots and matches, winning against the best in the world. This us why I watch tennis. Entertaining and sport. Gotta take the good with the bad. Wish him all the best. If he raises his level others will follow, exciting times.

What Nick needs is a top 10 coach to put him on the right training lifestyle.
He seems like he is receptive and ready for this step.
This is the time for him to make this happen.

HIs ranking will be #31 https://live-tennis.eu/en/atp-live-ranking. No player likes to play this guy when he gets hot, not Fed, Djoker and especially Rafa. I hope he can keep his confidence and stays injury free so he can train and practice and do the right things to keep climbing the ranks and hopefully win a GS soon.

The slapshot FH is unreal. I slow the footage to see his technique and I come to the conclusion that you can't teach it, remarkable talent.

Nick's brilliant drop shots are driving Zverev bonkers!

I have never seen Kyrgios use the dropper as much as he did against Zverev (who is not the best mover, Fed also drops him a lot). He must have hit like 20 droppers against Z.

I think Kyrgios has better strategy than people give him credit for... (when he's not tanking)

Someone should probably tell Nick that beating 2017 Novak isn't quite the accomplishment he thinks it is.

he's right. it wasn't his best tennis but he just can't produce his best tennis for 7 matches in a row in 5 set major.
