Here's to hoping Kyrgios and Nadal meet on clay. I really want to see if Kyrgios can put up a fight. I guess they've already met on clay, but I guess Nadal won those easily.

Edit: Mistake. First meeting was a 3 setter in a bo3.

It was on a podcast. Don't remember which one. He was also talking about how serve return is the most common shot in tennis and the least practiced. Same thing I've same for years.

I stopped reading when the OP said that Lendl was boring and Nadal's English... What? So freaking stupid (n). I wonder if the OP can speak French .

Yeah, Nick is a clown. When he stops clowning, he might get somewhere.

Wouldn’t it be fitting if Nick wins RG playing his usual non-chalant game all the while repeating how he hates the surface? :-D

I’d pay to watch just his comments during the trophy ceremony.

“This first slam trophy is great and all, but I’m just happy the clay season is over and we’re moving onto grass.”

Hmm... using this inane logic, Fed fans must hate Thiem because he beat Roger last week.

I donno I’m offering possible explanations. Can’t vouch for what goes on in Nadal fan’s heads...

Just so you know in case you were unaware, their Acapulco encounter was testy and followed by a media and twitter back and forth. So nothing like Theim-Federer who get along very well despite the latest wins going Theim’s way

I've said it before, I'll say it again. If you're taking a non-tennis fan to a match trying to get them to enjoy the sport, you take them to Kyrgios vs. Monfils not Federer vs. Nadal. To a tennis fan, Federer vs. Nadal is an epic match. To a sports fan wanting to see athletes be creative and have some fun Kyrgios vs. Monfils would be peak. Both have yet to reach their full potential, both have all the talent in the world, both lack that last little bit of drive to put aside having fun and dig in to just win.
How about Monfils and Brown?

He has taken his villain persona too far.

It's obvious he is not truly a villain, but just acting out the part. Djokovic said it right when he said Kyrgios was seeking attention. He should be trying harder to win rather than trying to be cool. His hand-eye coordination is such a gift and it is all going to waste.

It's not the loss. It's the underhand serve and Nick's behavior. You should really watch the match. It's quite clear Nadal cannot stand Kyrgios. (Then again, who can?;))

Hot Damn! 1) Pulls a Chang which no one on the tour has the GUTS to do, 2) 10 ACES to Nadal's ZERO, and 3) 101 mph forehand down the line!!

From another thread:

Then people wonder why I defend Nick. For someone like him with sensitivity towards criticism for his game, it is EXTREMELY IMPORTANT that he feels that the rules are upheld at all times and for everyone. Otherwise his faith in what he does is severely eroded, because he feels hurt by the injustice. We are not talking about a point or two here and there. The way the rules are enforced they put his entire style in disadvantage. That is the reason why Kyrgios has Federer as his example and when he loses he is not salty: because Federer plays by the rules, so Nick knows that he lost while being on equal footing, unlike with when he plays Nadal or Djokovic and they game him all the time. If someone wonders.

I want to be a Kyrgios fan, despite his obnoxious personality, but he keeps losing too much.
Another loss to Rafa on the big stage. If he can't get it done on grass with his monster serve...
:(

Tanking matches is the ultimate in cheating.

It cheats the fans whose support the game's survival is totally dependent upon. . No fans, no tennis. . No try, no fans.

I want to like him but I just shake my head when I see him loaf on key points like a petulant child. I could care less about all the aiming for Rafa, not apologizing stuff...don't care. But when I see the lackadaisical attitude during the course of play it the prevents me from being a fan on most levels. I'd give anything to have that talent and the opportunity to leave a legacy for myself as a great champion, and if I had it I'd never squander it the way he has done thus far.

Here is is. PROOF for all the clueless rec hacks who insisted an underarm serve could NEVER work in the pros, or against Nadal. ONE HUNDRED PERCENT success rate against Nadal. Hats off to KING Kyrgios for having the balls to actually use STRATEGY in a tennis match.
I don't think anyone ever said that.
@Stretchy Man ~ actually MANY said that ~ see here https://tt.tennis-warehouse.com/ind...far-back-why-not-pull-a-michael-chang.626113/
