Nick Kyrgios is the most genuine guy on the tour

Especially compared to the big 3.

Federer - false modesty, temper comes out when he starts losing. Must be real hard to be classy when you win like 85% of all your matches your entire career. His statement in response to Greta Thunberg was as if a PR person wrote it. Nothing but corporate speak.

Djokovic - wants to be liked so desperately it comes across as kind of pathetic sometimes.

Nadal - close to King Kyrgios but holds back his thoughts too much.

Kyrgios will flat out refuse to shake an ump's hand who did a poor job (I respect that), and calls out ballboys for whistleblowing to the umpire when he swears. Love him or hate him, he is the real article. What you see is what you get.

The fakest thing I've ever seen in tennis is Nick Kyrgios.
When he was 100% calm and walked off the court and smashed his racquets in the corridor and then walked back onto court with broken racquets.
And when he threw a chair onto the court in "anger" over nothing.
He's not talented enough to win slams (or even make a Quarter-final lately, as the last time he made a slam QF was 2015ao!), but he wants attention, so he performs pretend tantrums instead :)
Whereas genuinely angry tennis players simply smash their racquet, not go to the trouble of walking off the court or lifting up a chair and throwing it.....
Fognini is the real deal.
Kyrgios is a 25-year-old child playing dress-ups.

Also, I think Nick’s hatred of Novak is the least genuine thing on the tour. The writing on the kid’s shirt, the whole ATP Cup thing, it all seems like an attention-grabber. If you don’t like a guy, that’s completely fine, but Nick acts like a middle schooler who will do and say whatever he wants as long as Novak isn’t right in his face. As Medvedev would say, “a small kid who doesn’t know how to fight.”

Hides behind excuses to protect his “most talented player since Federer” image.
People were sooooo stupid to even believe that in the first place.
Didn't Nadal and Djokovic come after Federer? And it's so funny to see all these self proclaimed tennis experts on this forum who have been playing tennis since the dawn of civilization actually believe that Kyrgios is more talented than Nadalovic or even Mury for that matter.

Like what those guys do doesn't require talent. That Cãpy is one of the biggest freak in the history of all sports. Djokovic has such precision it might require one of the greatest hand eye coordination of all time.

But no Kyrgios hits tweeners and drop shots lol so he GOAT. Honestly recently Novak has been hitting dropshots and those are much better than Kyrgios' dropshots.

he’s rude, he’s disrespectful, he’s got no manners. what’s there to admire again?

honestly, who would want someone like Kyrgios as a friend in their own lives? he’d backstab you on the first chance he’d get.

I would much rather have Nick as a friend than Rafa

His face while his "friend" Djokovic was giving the victory speech at ATP Cup, that's the real Rafa.

For the great evil that Rafa is he is not very good at keeping the evilness secret is he?

That face was his sad face and it's funny as hell but I don't think it meant malice. Guy's said at losing so what? It's when that sadness translates into motion and takes the shape of Kyrgios that's when the problems start.

Nick Kyrgios is the most disgusting jerk on the tour. Generally stupid, uneducated, ill-mannered, rude and ugly. Skip his matches as much as I can. I do hope tht he will be disqualified for his tantrums sooner or later.

Nah, he's actually a nice guy and genuinely pleasant to everyone every year in Australia. Some of you guys hate to hear that because you want to believe he kicks puppies when the camera isnt on him because he gets sour when he loses sometimes.

Tell us about your private experience with the nadal when "the cameras aren't rolling" (I assume that means that he is not in a public setting).

In a press conference last week, Zverev said Dimitrov and Sock wanted to fight Kyrgios at 2018 Laver Cup, that's how much of a loser Kyrgios is :)
He's not going to be mean to fans, because he's desperate to be liked by the public, but can't help being an a-hole in private....

No, he

fakes injuries to break opponents' momentum

takes PEDs

"I wasn't ready" when he gets aced on MP

trashes opponents when he loses

That's why I don't like him.

I just think his state of mind is wrong.
It is ok to be honest and speak out but as a professional you are supposed to go about doing that in a certain respectful way.
Otherwise people will think that you are just a spoiled kid used to always having their way.

If you get angry enough to smash your rackets and yell at ball boys you will never ever be able to win.

But other than that, I think he is one of the most talented younger players on the tour right now.
But psychology is such a big part of sports nowadays that he will never be great until he is able to stay cool and focused for a whole tournament.

He may appear ; 'genuine' but he lies to himself on a daily basis. I have profiled him before and while I see improvement overall he continually resorts to self-destructive tendencies as a coping mechanism for fear of failure. See below:

I completely agree that it is a coping mechanism for him. It is easy to see the point where he just gives up and starts trying to make himself look like he doesn't care.

and the difference is nadal thinks he is entitled to every point, game, set match and when he doesnt win he makes excuses

If "telling it as it is" means saying what you really think without caring what other people think of it, or doing a terrible job of hiding what you actually feel, then by both you and OP's standards Nadal is more genuine than Nick "he was just too good" Kyrgios

Unless being genuine means saying what you want to hear, but last I checked these guys speak for themselves, not for individual TTW users

More like the opposite, but only if you're real friends rather than just pals. Actually not dissimilar to The Nadal, make no mistake he can be ruthless to anyone not in his inner circle.

He's one of a small handful of players that I've met by pure chance and he was pleasant and nice.
Anecdotally I have plenty of stories from a friend of mine who works the AO every year where he has an obviously limited interaction with a lot of players and they arent all good.
The obvious comeback is that he had to be nice but he really didnt. Ive seen a very well known former Australian player tell an autograph seeking couple to "get f**ked".
If you have had a different experience Im genuinely interested to hear it.

So, you have no experience with him in a private setting. Thank you.

Doesn’t Kyrgios also make a gimmick out of his behaviour for a long time now? In some of his "strange" actions (not all though) I had a strong feeling that he does it on purpose to stick to his image.

You may say that Kyrgios is genuine because he doesn't care what people thinks about him and tell it as he sees it but I think he's not genuine, just because he acts like a jerk doesn't mean he's doing it because he is a jerk, therefore genuine, he acts like a jerk because he prefers that over people thinking he can't win.

He's not that big of a jerk, he just pretends when he feels he can't win and for him is better to act like he loses on purpose than lose even as he has given everything to win.

Anyway we saw the best version ever of Kyrgios and he got destroyed by RBAgut in the ATP Cup SF.
Kyrgios gave 100% effort, especially in the 1st Set, and RBAgut won that set 6-1 :)
Kyrgios was pumped from the very beginning, and RBAgut pumped him!
Kyrgios even admitted that he's fully motivated for team events.
Of course we know he's also motivated for individual events, just that he's too scared to admit it because he keeps losing....
