Nick Kyrgios misses out on Australian ATP Cup team due to a slip in world ranking

Nick Kyrgios will miss out as only the top two players from each country can play and with his ranking at World No. 46, he is the third-highest ranked Australian.

Australian tennis star Nick Kyrgios will miss out on being part of his country’s ATP Cup team due to a technicality which only allows the top two singles players to take part in the tournament.

Each nation have two singles slots that will be taken by their top-ranked players and Australia’s challenge at the ATP Cup will be led by Alex de Minaur and John Millman who are ranked 23 and 38, respectively. Kyrgios’ rankings have slipped to number 46 due to a year of inactivity from the player, citing Covid-19 concerns.

His ranking is too low for him to qualify anyway. He's only 3rd best Aussie (after De Minaur and Millman who both qualified).

Millman or de Minaur will drop out to stay on the good side of the bad boy. Not sure which. Millman could use some extra money, but maybe Kyrgios will give him a cut. There will also be some pressure on Millman to drop out since he’s the perceived boring guy who’s keeping the celebrity loving fans from watching the cool celebrity guy. Then again, de Minaur could drop out because he’s young and he knows he has to spend some years in the vicinity of Kyrgios.
