Nick Kyrgios withdraws from Australian Open

The whole Nick saga stirs up people’s emotions, especially hate. I had a look on FB just now and looked at the comments below each article and it’s pretty aggressive mainly against him, but there is some support as well. Social media can be highly toxic. If you were McEnroe, Connors or Nastase you would have probably been happy that the internet wasn’t around then .
If you are a public figure you probably want to stay away from these platforms and I bet that Nick and his brother spend too much time on Insta.

The way you phrase it it's as if he wasn't at least partly responsible for the toxicity directed at him - I agree, social media can be toxic, but it doesn't mean some of the scrutiny isn't justified and isn't self-inflicted.

Sorry if I misinterpreted you.

My sentiments are sort of based on surprise. I didn’t think that Nick would get so much attention or focus, I don’t think it’ deserves it, I’m sure his behaviour on tour does get people going and I assume it’s the young crowd because I don’t think the older generation are interested in all his shenanigans. Yes he is a very talented player, and Wimbledon finalist but he has been around long enough now and I think, well we have seen what he is about and therefore it’s time to move on now and get on with it, not into the circus and soap opera, too much clutter and fuss when lite and easy is so much better. I find someone like Medvedev more interesting with his intellect and humour.
There are so many other very good players around. I think the young kids who are fans need to look further afield, young Sinner is very talented player that seems to have his stuff together.

I also love it when people who have anger problems describe it as “passion”. I had an ex boss once who when he got suspended for reaming out and getting into a verbal confrontation with another manager with multiple outbursts - came back and said “it’s that I’m too passionate”. Please. The love for this guy is stupid. He’s a complete joke. I hope he gets help but honestly he thinks he’s not a bag of feces.

Injury is injury, feel sorry for how this went for him. It's basically the same injury Roger had but at a younger age. Especially unfortunate, you'd feel, given that now seemed to be the time Kyrgios was more determined and dedicated to getting good results.

Are aliens inside your head forcing you to watch? Turn the TV off. Show some initiative and some self-control.

Kyrgios's cache is his divisiveness. It certainly doesn't stem from his results. Many people who watch him want to see bad things happen to him because he treats other people very badly. That shouldn't bother Kyrgios. He's a millionaire many times over and still in his 20's. If it does bother him he should change his behaviour.

Not a big fan of him but ofc I wish fast recovery. Just to let the rumours flow… maybe the ‚prize money‘ of Netflix is just higher :D (Osaka syndrom)

The yes men (ppl) he surrounds himself with ain't gonna say no.

His whippy stand-up style from the backcourt, almost like he pogoes when making contact, gonna mean pain.

He does a lot of sliding and chipping and taking the ball early, draws up from low into pin-point serve, gonna mean pain.

Stick a fork in it... reckon this bung knee means... his career goes bung.
