Nickb's Poly Reviews

Hey,

No comparison...BBO provides much more spin, control AND power. PRC feels harsh to me and lacking in comparison. Pay the extra for luxilon.

Nick

All I needed to hear. ;). Will do.

Now, here's the million-dollar question--BBO or ALU Power and why?

Nick, welcome back mate. Did you ever hit with Gamma Zo tour. I tried some in the 1.30 and really liked it.

The problem for me was that I did not get any better life out of it than the ALU and the price was no cheaper. Still, it had some nice pop to it. Almost like a Luxilon version of BA :)

Thanks!

Never got round to it....I still really like match pro 1.25.

Nick

Hi JCS,

Im a bit pissed off right now...1 of mine just cracked!

Nick

YIKES!!!! small crack or big crack? and where? did you find it after playing or during?... just curious

match pro string... any equivalent (branded under different name) that could be found in the States?

Big crack...right at 12 o clock on the frame....runs very deep. I noticed it when I popped a string and it made a strange noise. Sometimes this happens with my frames...its only 3 months old and has already been strung over 20 times!

Not a big deal....my prestige collection is pretty big :) As of late ive just been using whatever takes my fancy LOL.

Its a very unique string...the best co-poly ive ever used...only £22 a reel....dont know of anything similar.

Nick

nick i was just looking at ur ratings and realized that u dont have big ace in ur top 5 for feel Is this true? Also if u could do a little comparison of Big Ace, ALU, and Big Banger Ace that would be great. Dont include durability cuz i have my own stringer and dont mind stringing often and would rather break strings than have to cut them out but bottom line i want whatever i play best with

Nick what prestiges do you have? Is the microgel your best one?

With no disrespect to Nick, you shouldn't take someone's word on a string without trying it yourself, especially if you plan on buying a multi-hundred dollar reel.
I know, but I've also read the thread about the string with some good opinions...unless I'm thinking of the wrong string?
I thought it was very cheap??

cool stuff 1012007, I'll look out for you impressions on the match pro thread ;)
I take it you're not using the titanium string?

Big Ace feels like plastic to me...ball feel is ok but for that reason I dont like the feel...others have noticed this as well.

ALU Power has the best control....Big Ace has the most power. Touch goes to ACE. Spin goes to ALU Power. Big Ace holds tension better than both the luxilons.

Hope that helps.

Nick

Nick, regarding your MG Prestiges, how is the power level overall. I've been looking at the Pro version since the SW is a bit lighter at 310 or versus 333 on my PST.

You mentioned that they didn't seem to have a lot of pop with ALU in there. Is part of that because of the tighter string pattern? How much is the drop in power in the MG Prestiges versus the APDC you were using earlier. ( I do realize that the APDC is fairly powerful)

I have flexpoints, microgels, PT280/630 and I prestige's.

I like the microgels best but right now I dont have a clue what im using. Light or heavy

Nick

Haha! I wish a had the opportunity to own every version of my raquet:)Do you find a big difference between the PT630 and Microgel?

Thanks.

Sorry I haven't yet...if im honest I wont be trying any new strings for a long time.

Nick

Sounds like something i should do! Iv got one of my raquets strung up with SS now and its pretty nice. Very good feel and nice and soft . Control is very good also i just strung it to tight so doesnt have the power i want. I think im sticking to my BBO!

right now im using a lm prestige mp but im about to buy a new racquet and im not sure whether to get a microgel prestige mp or LM again.

Nevermind, sorry, I was thinking of a different string. BTW, how much is 22 pounds in American dollars? Can anyone convert?

Give the microgel a demo. But its always nice to have two of the same frame. So if they feel similar to you stick with the LM

Big Ace has more power than ALU P? 1.25? I find ALUP to have a more unique feel and better "power" transfer... but your right the spin with ALU P, man i can make balls just fall right out of the sky and dip in...

ok, better power-spin-tenx-control: BA? ALUP? BBO?

J, I think BBO is the best compromise of those 3. ALU is the best performer flat out but the tension drop is a killer. BBO holds tension better has similar power and similar spin. However, for softer poly's then BA is hard to beat. I think if I was using a stiffer frame, I would be using BA but the PST is so soft that Lux works great.

What was the original post..................................?
Oh, yes, Nick's Poly Reviews.
Great, where are we ending....

It's only because Nick's gotten smart and is sticking with one racquet and string so he can just focus on improving his game, instead of wasting his time trying every string so we can ask him questions about it, instead of actually trying it out ourselves. Nick is one of the few "legends" on these boards who is a good tennis player, so props to him.

You HAVE to try the microgel prestige MP. Its the best prestige yet IMO. The feel is fantastic and it has more pop than the LM. Give it a demo.

Nick :)

Big Ace has more power than ALU...BUT that power is harder to control...so I can hit harder with ALU because the ball stays in and spin comes with less effort.

Hope that makes sense....

Right on...BBO is the best ALL AROUND luxilon. It always has been. The control stays there right until breakage even if it feels totally dead.

Hey guys and girls,
Wonder if you can help me with my search.

I'm looking for a crispy poly that holds tension well and preferably comes in a thin gauge (1.20mm or less)

So far on my list are:
Weiss Cannon Silverstring 1.20mm
and Tecnifibre Pro RedCode 1.20mm

I was also thinking of pro hurricane - but I'd prefer to use one of the above due to costs.

sorry, quoted because of new page
Big Ace Micro:) 1.15 it is
I looked at that, but I've read that it's very soft so I left it out. How do you find it plays?

Edit:
Just read Nick's thoughts on Toalson cyber blade thermax
I'll add this to the list.

If you string it tight, it should be ok. Most strings uner 1.20 are pretty soft anway.

Do they do Match pro is 1.20??

My 2 cents. Here is my take on the poly. I think it is GREAT during the Indoor season. but if you get out in the Summer time in a extreme heat and humidity, it just does not last long. Now this doesn't bother the Pros cause they can afford to just cut it out after 1 use and put a fresh one on for next time. But for us amateurs, it is alot of string jobs.

Good point. Especially if you have to pay a stringer. It costs the same if he does a good string or a bad string. The labor costs are the same. For me it costs too much to play around with trying different strings. I don't string my own racquets so I'm really picky about which strings I try.

Hey JCS,

Im having a hard time deciding between the Microgel prestige Mid and the K90! :)

Also I got bored of changing it all the time ..

Yawn ... lol ... just get yorself a 23" Dora the explorer wilson racket .. youve searched all these years but surely its your holy grail
