Nike 2024 General Thread

Seriously need to hear you defend this design and the entirety of the kit. In general, I thought 2010 had a lot of hits including French Open and USO…

that aside this is one of the most pathetic attempts of putting together a cohesive outfit that I’ve ever seen in the Tennis apparel space. Specifically there’s absolutely zero through lines in terms of colors and nothing in this kit matches other than the pink on the headband and stripe on the chest. Otherwise it’s a complete and utter disaster, a case study in a failed attempt at a heritage inspired design

I like everything about it, besides the color of the shorts.

Change those shorts to white and it becomes a great kit.

The musetti polo is definitely better than this garbage kit

Im a Nike historian & fan, but lets call it like it is. They werent always perfect

One of my all time favorite shirts, have the white and solid orange and still wear them a few times a month. Great material and vented sides. I wear the white one with black solid shorts and the orange one with white or black solid shorts and it looks great IMO.

So the irony in my hatred of the kit as a whole is that I owned both shirts. I wore the orange with white shorts and the white with black. Really clean look that way. The shorts combined with the orange shoes make zero sense. The shirts, in a vacuum, are fine & had a really nice fit to them. That brown argyle is deplorable. Way worse then a salmon colored polo

Are nike yet again not releasing any olympic colourway premier wristbands?

The university red white eludes me as it only ever comes like every olympics back when federer or bencic swiss nike players wore them

Im amazed they never released it either in double wide or single wide i have seen it on BAS but seems to be some exclusives

Is Nike every doing US shoe size 13.5 - 14.5 and so on, or is it from 13 by 1 size up only? They do have half size up shoes in their charts, but the half size offerings are ending with 12.50 and from 13 US, it is too steep.

thats not the same polo

He makes these little mistakes all the time. Has no idea of the differences between items and says they are the same thing because they look similar. Very uninformed

Legend says he blames his final loss to Murray on the zipper placket

I'll never not believe that Fed threw Murray a bone in that match

I actually love this shirt. Reminds me of some casual shirts I had as a kid in the early 90s. I haven't bought anything from 2024 but I'm considering buying this one.

Holy crap! Nike please give us this kit. It's fifty times better than anything that we've gotten this year.

You cannot do worse than Man-bunli's 2024 French Open shirt.

It's just not possible to top that.

I think you are aroused by Musetti and are uncomfortable with it

Which is why you're so hung up on him looking "gay"

Because he makes you feel gay when you see him

Genuinely much prefer this to anything Nadal wears these days, but then again I've really hated his line of clothing over the last year or so. His old outfits were on a different level to what he wears now.

You gotta hand hold me through what about those shorts is preferable to any recent offering. Agree generally that the older kits were generally better, but not sure those brown shorts make sense for anyone

I mean yeah those shorts are hideous for sure, but I still prefer the outfit as a whole to his recent offerings. I just prefer the fit of everything really. Wasn't there another colourway of those shorts in a white, blue and yellow outfit? Or am I mistaken? I'm testing your knowledge here :D

haha he wore similarly patterned shorts (less egregious and actually matched his kits), but they were checkered instead of argyle for Miami and the clay season. Went back to normal shorts for the french

Also, when he got to make his own choices, he wore black with that white striped crew

You passed with flying colours! Fair play aha. But yes those outfits are much better in terms of the whole outfit matching and design of the shorts. I actually like the contrast of the other one, just not the chosen pattern for the shorts. Even more so if the Nike tick on the shirt is the same brown as the shorts (hard to tell) as I love it when say, the sweatbands or shorts match just a small element of the shirt.

Totally. I like the idea of the brown matching a head/wristband & swoosh combo. Would have tied things together nicely. & yes, having owned that shirt, the swoosh was sort of light brown/taupe

In general 2007-2011 Rafa was great great work from Nike, but we have to be fair all around. Theyve made bag design choices even in their hayday

Yead indeed. And thanks for the confirmation :)

Oh without a doubt, those years were fantastic. I'll be completely honest though, there were very few Nadal outfits I didn't like in those earlier years. Even if they consisted of colours I didn't like or would never wear, they still had a cohesive look about them. I can't say that for the last few years though, and as of now I wouldn't touch the Nadal line match wear.

I love outfits like these for instance (plenty of examples to be fair), where the AO one has the contrasting lime sweatbands/headband just matching the lime of the shoes. Or the other one that has the contrasting mint green sweatbands/headband matching the stripe on the shirt. So good. Doesn't feel like as much thought goes into a lot of Nike's current offerings.

These 2009 kits were 10/10, literally some of the best stuff. I owned the AO 2009 night fit, was super slim, but back in the day I could pull that off lmao

Agreed! Haha yeah the night outfit was fantastic, really loved the both of them!

Also to be honest, I don't think that Nadal's (didn't pay massive attention to Federer's outfits) outfits pre 2014 are mostly dated at all. Yes you could argue the big collar looks are and the sleeveless with baggy shorts and such, but the majority would be fantastic even if they were worn by Nadal tomorrow. Even these two, pretty simple and clean but with great combination and contrasts of colours. The thing with clothing and fashion in general is that things that may be thought of as being 'dated', just end up being seen and known as 'classic' as soon as they're brought back.

I wanted this shirt for so long, finally got a cheap one off an auction site that was in so-so condition... but what I didn't realize is that the horizontal stripe is screen printed on and very stiff, almost rubbery. And the retail version of the main material was kind of thick, I think the PE version seemed thinner when looking at the photos. Not a great shirt to play in, got really heavy with the material, pocket, collar, and the stiff stripe; bummer cause I love the look of it.

Yeah I wouldn't have guessed that the stripe was printed on like that. It's a fantastic shirt though and looks incredible with white shorts!

2010 man. Amazing year from Nike. So was 2008 and '06.

I agree, but the giant collars...ew

I felt like the length of tops and shorts is what aged the worst. I don’t see a ton of examples of large collars when I look back, maybe 2004?

2007 Nadal was just peak for me. Edgy asymmetrical color blocking. Clay/FO so good. I think my favorite Nadal year, although 2008 breathe cage 2 from AO was 10/10 even tho he had a custom outsole color

Meh, today's style basically sucks by comparison.

I'm content to just play in my old stuff from back then.

Colors today are so much better though. The entire neon comeback happened post-2010...volt, lava, etc.

And now the muted/creamy colors are just awesome. Coconut milk, alabaster...very nice. Not to mention the "mineral" colors.

2000-2010 colors were very basic, boring. Lots of red, black, white, basic blues.

Are you sure? Because I don't quite remember it that way.

2010 had "Hot Lime" for the US Open. Orange Blaze for the Australian Open. Which was bright.

2009 had volt (neon yellow) with Neo Turquoise for Nadal at the Australian Open. Neon pink and yellow for the French. Spark Green for the World Tour Finals, which was very bright.

2008 had atomic cherry for the US Open. A very bright red.

2006 also had bright red for Nadal.

Unfortunately, the colors have become muted and boring today.

But the fit is the worst part. Everything runs so small.

I can wear a large from 2008 and it fits just fine, but for today's sizes, I would need an XL.

Nadal's gladiator boardshorts from the fall of 2007 were awesome!

Very lightweight and comfortable. They lasted forever.

So buy an XL. What's the problem?

Everything has become slimmer, absolutely everything. Not just the "gay" Nike clothes that cause you so much chagrin

It still doesn't fix the no sleeves problem.

The polos today suck, because they have no sleeves.

The sleeveless shirts look incredibly lame.

The crews look like crap. For the most part.

The shoes suck.

And the shorts are too short.

Only the retros and sometimes the hats and bandanas are worth buying. :(

I know that's subjective, but many people nowadays complaining the shorts are not short enough and you are a small bunch of people arguing the other way round. Probably because of performance issue, players generally prefer shorter shorts (7 inch instead of 9 inch). In another thread under Lacoste, people complaining that they are only releasing 9 inch but not shorter one. Take it or leave it, fashion is always about trend and it seems your tastes are not in line with the trend. As simple as that.

Ya honestly just have to size up at this point & in doing that, you’ll get proportionally longer sleeves for someone theoretically taller. The sleeves on my alacraz 22 USO, 23 IW, 23 W, and 24 FO shirts all have decent length sleeves, not egregious. If I wore more stock size, they’d probably be 1-2in too short

The shoes suck.

This much is true. Although a return of the OG vapor pro is another positive sign. Can’t give up hope, people are pounding them in social comments about the shoe paintjobs
