Nike 2024 General Thread

The draper shirt has longer sleeves but the cut is weird when wearing it even in XS

Like the shoulders are too high or something

See how he keeps having to adjust it and pull at the neck/shoulder area?

That's why the "swishy" slim fits with shorter sleeves work better for tennis.

The Draper fit has grown on me in regard to how it looks on him. I would never wear that, but I respect how he's wearing something quite different. Saw him wearing those classic Nadal 2006 US Open shorts, the black ones with the red sort of chevron (think he also had navy with a yellow/gold chevron), where the hell did he get those?! I wanted those so badly at one point :D Had the shoes to that outfit at least.

Why does the alcaraz tank we can buy not have the swoosh on the back as well?

the tiafoe one has a swoosh on the front and back on tv is the retail version just one at the front?

I bought it it fits well (kinda) if you get an XS.

I normally wear medium and thought S would be fine but it is still too big like a large lol

Have you fried the draper top with the long sleeves? You might like it reminds me of agassi baggy fits of the 90s
Agreed. It does remind me of the Agassi outfits. I don't really need it, but if I was more active with the sport and needed a kit, that one I would grab.

That's the first Nike tennis kit that I've seen since the 2020 US Open that I actually like.

Seriously?! Can you post a picture of him wearing the Nadal US Open shorts?

its not questionable, its oversized - it's in fashion atm. It's just "new" to tennis i guess - not really surprising tennis fans, one of the most conservative of sports would be unreceptive of the style
Defend the fit and cut all you want as 'in the moment fashion', but just because it's in the moment doesn't mean it isn't a bad unflattering shape on any body. It's also not "new" as the oversized tops and shorts were the look from 1995 - 2006 (see Sampras' giant cloths all the way to Federer's big shorts and tops that went away around 2007), also not the best fits on them but they looked better than the Draper kit.

Tennis being the most conservative of sports is a very slanted statement as since the original Challenge Court run in late 80s, there has always been a presence of a loud/trend/fashionable in most seasons. If you are just referring to the consumer and average buyer then not sure that matters as there is equal amount of complaining about Nike's fashion forward tennis lines (see square crew necks in 2022, basically everything else, ha!) and equal parts people liking the new stuff and certain tops and items sold out and hard to find, complaints on its a Euro only release. So it's its at least somewhat receptive to the average buyer.

Additionally, high fashion collaboration or trends influencing brands has entered the pro tour long ago and keeps continuing, so the sport is not unreceptive of style in that regard. (see: Agassi/Nike/Grunge 1995, Off White/Nike/Serena 2018, Pharrel/Adidas 2017, Naomi/Nike/Yoon Ahn 2024, Hugo Boss, AE7, etc, etc). After Nike Sportswear, you could argue that tennis NikeCourt is probably the MOST receptive of current trends in the Nike lines after Jordan and Nike SB.

Grab that kit boss, enjoy it!

If memory serves, the oversized fit was popular up until the early 2010s.

Yes, and in recent times, be it Serena, Osaka or whatever, everything that either isn't a nostalgic reboot or "clasically styled" gets mocked or derided by tennis fans. I'm not saying NIKE/the industry aren't looking to trends, I'm saying tennis fans are not really receptive to anything too "wild" on the whole (see Nadal's bubblegum coloured racquet being mocked also)

Bad and unflattering is as always in the eye of the beholder, i think the box fit looks good on Draper (he's a model part time so that's not exactly shocking) - the 90's/00's stuff you're referring to wasn't oversized in the same way, it was "baggy" maybe

Sounds like it's a T-shirt that really heavily commits to the oversized fit! I actually just saw it for the first time on the Tennis Warehouse website, I'm not sure it's anywhere in the UK (haven't exactly looked for it) but I do quite like it to be fair. It's a good look if you can pull it off :)

Seriously?! Can you post a picture of him wearing the Nadal US Open shorts?

Sure :)

I spent the past few minutes starring at this photo and couldn't tell if it's a photo from the 90's or a recent photo.
I know it has to be a recent photo as Draper is early 20's but man, this photo exudes 90's.

This doesn’t scream 90’s at all. Definitely early to mid 00’s more than anything. All he’s missing is a puka shells necklace to complete the look

Oh my God! You're right!!

Wow, I remember those shorts. Yeah, I really wanted those back in '06.

I'm shocked that Draper has them. He couldn't have been more than 4 or 5 when they came out.

Not like it was in the 90s, look at Fed's outfits from 2010. The shirts are still pretty trim but the shorts are longer
Yes. Federer's shirts got slimmer beginning at Wimbledon 2007 and for the most part they stayed that way.

But Nike kept the oversized fit for the lower ranked guys. Until about 2010 or '11.

I have a few from 2007-08 and they fit very big.

That's still sort of happening, the non-Slam/ADV stuff was always cut more generously for the weekend warriors. Which I've been trying to tell you guys, but apparently it only counts when the pro models are doing it.

Do you remember this one?

They kept that style cut for the lower ranked guys through '09.

Jack looks like he stepped right out of 2007.

I love it!!! (y)

Why?

Ppl talk about "tennis fits shouldn't look like basketball fits" and this is pretty basketballesque
I love the shorts and the shoes and the red with black combo.

It kind reminds me of Jordan only better.

The only one that comes close to this is Agassi's 1990 US Open kit.

But '06 Nadal edges it out.

The sleeves are a bit weird though they sit up high whereas the agassi ones will hang off the shoulder more baggy fit

He should have gone one size down or 2 or 3 like me lol

It is on nike uk website readily available everywhere selling it even zalando etc

Going off tangent regarding the oversized/baggy kit argument - in soccer there's always a nostalgic sentiment about the 'baggy' kits of the 1990s.

EzBN42IXMAYimWg.jpg

It was 'baggy' because the kitman gave everyone on the team the same size - XL. Easier to give everyone the same size instead of giving different sizes individually (S, M, L). Kit downsizing only started in the 2000s with streamlined, slim-fit Kappa kits before other brands offered slimmer fit shirts (Nike Dri-Fit ADV, adidas Formotion) and players started wearing smaller sized shirts (apparently Cristiano Ronaldo wear a size M jersey).

IMO the slimmer (and smaller) kits looked better on the 'smaller and better built' players.

Haha I know what you mean. If you didn't know the person and someone told you it was taken from the 90's you wouldn't really argue.

Yeah so did I, so badly! It made me wonder if they were being sold in some retro fashion or if he was able to attain them in some unconventional way. Surely they're not from back when Nadal actually wore them as like you say, he would have been about 5 or so. Nadal had these ones too and to be honest I really love both outfits, although navy replacing the red in the Spain inspired wristbands would have been better.

I like this color scheme much more than the red/black/white

How's everyone feeling about the upcoming HO24 release?

In my opinion the best crew in years is about to drop. Get excited...

I feel like every drop is a total crapshoot these days. Without the information you have in hand prior to these releases, we're all just kind of waiting for them to do something profound

I tried the GPC1 and it was a step down in terms of tech from the GPT, IMO. That being said, some bright spots with apparel this year (great seasonal tees, Alcaraz/Sinner major looks, and some nice headwear offerings)

That all being said, I think SP25 is the one were all really juiced for

2025 is a huge disappointment for the non slam looks. You shouldn't be juiced.

I think the crews and heritage hoodies are oversized

So definitely get an Asian XS or an American XL, you should be good
Lol

I only have the heritage hoodies

So let's assume it is the same fit

I dont know why nike doesnt even bother to tell us what the fit is anymore
