Nike 2025 General Thread

True, Vapor 12 looks very promising. Stiff frame but without the forefoot lateral part that hurt me on Vapor Pro 1, solid shank, light enough. If the price isn't outrageous, and if they make less flashy looking colourways I'm sure to get them

Yeah, I actually like them, just not at full price. I find myself valuing Nike's offerings enough to pay a discounted price on an old colorway, but not enough to pay full price on the latest scheme. This has been true for the VP2s, V11s, and the GP Challenge 1s.
Yeah, we the Vapor 11 avengers assemble!

Vapor 11 is definitely not a pair of bad shoes. It may not have a lot of pros wear it (Musetti wore it before he switched to Asics and GMP surprisingly still wearing it), but I still think that it is a pair of very solid tennis shoes with good level of cushioning, stability and durability. Just those are not in the DNAs of the past vapors.
For the casual player if they see Rune or Sinner wearing Nike's and that's enough of a factor to want to convince them they need a Nike tennis shoe, they're not going to be picky about having the exact shoe they use, and will probably walk home with a pair of Vapor Lites if they go to a sports store, or more likely an Asics if they walk into a tennis store and get real advice.

Japanese brands actually are the main pillars in the industry of tennis gears now. Yonex, Asics, Mizuno all churning out very nice sticks or shoes.

Just grabbed a pair of the blue/hyper crimson as my second pair

So far the Adidas kits > Nike kits at AO '25. Which I have to say I'm a little shocked by since Adidas ended last year with those horrible black and yellow kits that resembled something Badger or Holloway would put out (iykyk)

Does anybody know if the players get new shoes/apparel for every match they play and if they keep them after the match? I am curious because sometimes we see players using shoes or even shirts from old collections

Does “Luminous Green” hat that Sinner is wearing at AO will be released? Only wristband can be found on TW…

So far I only found the safety orange colorway in a EU store.

Somehow Nike is still dropping shoes none of their pros wear. Take a look at each Nike players shoes

Alcaraz: Vapor 11s hybrid
Sinner: Vapor Zeros
Shapovalov: Vapor 9.5
Rune: Vapor Pro 1
Korda: Vapor Pro 1
Shang: Vapor Pro 1
Kyrgios: Vapor 12s
Draper: Vapor Pro 3
Mpteshi Perricard: Vapor 11s

In the end just two players of their whole lineup are using current models. I would’ve hoped for some of them (korda, rune) to use the new models. My thinking is that maybe the players are not using the Vapor 12s because they haven’t been releases officially by Nike. Maybe like the TW staff said they’ll release the 12s in February and then all of these players will switch. Maybe Nike expected Tiafoe or Musetti to have worn the new models and that’s why they did them. For example, there is no one wearing the GP Challenge
Shapo uses Vapor X

Nishikori has that INSANE Vapor X Custom, too!! Don't forget about him!!

Nike needs to make Customs for Alcaraz/Sinner. Everyone else needs to get on board or find a new sponsor. Nike paying athletes to wear shoes and they can even wear the current model is ridiculous and gives the impression that their current shoes are inferior (whether that is true or not).

It is only us that care bc we are the ones obsessed with playing with the pros' exact equipment--not the rank and file

Never heard this complaint expressed anywhere but online among older players who think they're agile enough to benefit from a pro stock shoe that wears out after one deep Slam run. And for every one of those delusional characters, I see 3-4 parents asking how they can keep their son from destroying a pair of shoes every week because he slides on hardcourt.

People wonder why Asics and other companies are supposedly eating Nike's lunch, and I can say with a high degree of certainty that the durability of the Fed Vapor line is a big factor in why they lost market share to Asics

Do Asics make minimal shoes? No they do not. Do they make heavy, highly cushioned shoes? Yes they do.

So we want Nike to make us shoes that we really can't play in, that also won't sell well, all to appease our vanity and nostalgia.

We rip them for being overpriced while praising Lacoste and Boss which are 30-50% more expensive. But hey, they sell the shirt in a box, instead of a bag!

Even players like Fed, Rafa could bring their line to public after they achieved career grand slam(Fed 2009->2010, Rafa 2010->2011. Excludes US Open exclusive Jacket)

At least, Alcaraz and Sinner have to achieve 2 more different slams to make it. And I don’t think their name/rivalry is famous or popular as Fed/Rafa’s one at this point, so we might wait much more longer to see their line from Nike.

I really do believe they are hedging with Sinner while the doping case works out

strongly agree, even Asics' most minimalistic model, Solution Speed FF, has much more cushion than any of the Nike current offerings. And I think it pretty much depends on the geography, but in my area (in Asia), I think more than half of the tennis population are wearing Asics (especially the GR and Court FF line).

For most of the tennis population, but not nerds like us, "cushioning" means "comfort" and that's the most important factor when they plan to buy a pair of tennis shoes.

Exactly. We slam the Vapor Cage for being called a Vapor, but it's still more Vapor-y compared with Asics and KSwiss etc., a speedy shoe with an outsole guarantee and a low-to-the-ground feel

The game has evolved, I didn't see 12yo kids sliding into their shots when the Vapor 9 was introduced in 2012...13 years ago now

Even the Vapor X is 8 years old.

@gino have you ever read this article? Not only does it reference TTW but it gave me some more facts to bolster my case.

Tennis shoes make up .1% of the athletic shoe sales in this country.

Not 1%.....0.01%

I bet basketball shoes make up significantly more than that. Since the argument is that tennis needs to be more like the bball division

The article also states that 95% of Nike's athletes are wearing custom orthotics. In that case, yeah, wear a ****** slipper out there. Also states they get 8 pairs at the beginning of every Slam

And one of the main issues discussed here is the fact that the best performing Nike players are wearing shoes that are not available, meanwhile Asics best performing player, Djokovic, is wearing the retail shoes with no customs. And I guess no Asics players get any custom shoe
