nike air max cage?

You've gotten these new cages in? So you think sizing down is unnecessary? I'm trying to gauge the opinions of people who have them now before I buy my first pair. If I call TW they'll obviously tell me to size down.

Yeah, I got one in each size from TW.

Depends on your foot type/shape and how snug or loose you want it. I'm 9.5 in Vapor 9s, CB4.3s, 2K11/12s. I needed to go down to a 9 in LLV8s, 2K10s. I remember the Breathe Free 2s vaguely. I think this fit pretty similar to those (but back then, I didn't have the Elite socks to deal with).

I'm a 9 in the Ballistec 4.3, so going down to 8.5 for these shoes might be perfect.

Argh I'm hesitant on which size to buy.. Xfactorer so youre going to stick with your natural size? I wear a thick sock too the Thorlo or the Elites.

Played with a friend of mine who wore the cages today. He use to wear the 2k10's and wore the 2k12's before he he purchased the cages. He definitely recommends sizing down at least a 1/2. Even looking at him wearing the shoes I can tell they were big on him.

So, I got home, put on some Elites and the regular Nike Tennis socks. I'm sticking with my natural size. I was wearing dress socks earlier when I was still at work.

But, yeah. For me, with my socks of choice, sticking with my regular size is the way to go. You might be different.

Ah the decisions... I might end up buying both sizes, my natural and a half size down and just end up picking one when they get here. Another good option I have is to go to a local tennis shop. No rush for me to buy these though.. my 2k12s are still doing great.

ArliHawk.. have you received your pair? Your suggestions? I'm assuming you went normal in 2k12?

Did your friend wear 2k12's in his normal size?

Get them tomorrow. Looking forward to them. Somebody said they are a combo of the Vapors and Ballistecs. Should be good.

Cool, let me know what your opinion is between the normal and half size down. Comparison to the 2k12 would help.

The Cages I bought came in. Got the same size as my 4.3's and they fit fine. Didn't need to size down. :O

Oh god... I don't know what to do :(

I love these questions because you're going to get a million different answers. Half size up/down, full size up/ down etc...

Yeah its terrible. Fortunately I'm going to going to a local store to see how they fit in person! Even when you get to put them on in person you always have that moment where you don't know which fits better. Haha.

That was definitely the case for me. I had to go back to the store the next day to try on a smaller 1/2 size just to satisfy my curiosity. I wouldn't go so far as to say a US10 = a "normal" US10.5. Like someone else said, it's more like a US10.25.

The sock-issue is also a good point and something to consider.

Well, there might be a deeper, underlying problem there, then. ;-)

Got a pair of these w/ a nike voucher and really do not like them. The Vapor 9's and 4.3's are both way higher quality. The shoes feel cheap, and are not that light and do not offer much support. The fit is also very strange and the foot sits very very high. Not recommended.

We'll see then! I'll be wearing my Elites when I head over to try them on. I'm a person who likes a really snug feel with my shoes. Any space in the back of the shoe is a no no for me.

Haha you're probably right. I'm a very indecisive person for sure.

Tried them on in person.. he only had a 9 but it was clearly too big. But it wasn't too big where I felt like I might have needed a whole size down... I didn't ask him to order the two sizes so I might end up buying both and picking one/returning one. But I'll wait for some of you guys to get your pairs to let me know your opinions

Order 1/2 size down.

I have owned, oh, about 100 discrete Nike shoes in my life (i.e. not counting duplicates of the same model). Almost all have been size 10.5.

The first generation of courtballistec ever made: I had to order a 10, which was consistent with Tennis Warehouse's recommendation.

The Air Max Cages - the right size is 10.5, per Tennis Warehouse's recommendation.

A note: nominally my feet are odd-sized, so occasionally I buy two pairs of shoes so that I have a 10.5 for my right, and a 10 for my left. So objectively, I am able to place my size 10 Cages next to both a 10 and 10.5 2K12 shoe. Objectively, the physical length of the 10 Cage is the same as the 10 2K12.

So why did I size down? It's not necessarily about the physical length of the shoe, but the last and the shape. The toebox of the 2K12 is longer and more tapered than the Cage. Therefore there is length in the shoe that isn't occupied by your foot...this is somewhat hard to describe. The toebox of the new cage is more rounded in the front and wider.

Bottom line, as a general rule, I agree with TW's recommendation to wear a half-size smaller than what you typically wear in Nike shoes.

I also would get the normal size. I wear a 12 and I actually found the 12s to fit snug, even more snug than my size 12 4.3.

Oh great.. more incentive to just buy both sizes and then decide. On another note does anyone have pictures of the next colorways?

Haha, if you tally all the votes in here, it'll probably be 50/50.

You felt that a 9 was too big, but what's your normal sneaker size?

Think I made the right call sizing down. Pretty sure my regular size would be too big. Will know more tomorrow after their inaugural run.

I'm a usual 8.5 in Nike's. He only had the 9 so I just said why not I'll throw these on.. clearly had too much room in the shoe. But I couldn't determine whether or not I needed a half size down or a full size down. :-?

1 full-size would probably be too much. US8 would be the suggested size for you probably, but of course it ultimately depends on how normal US8.5's fit you.

Did you have the Ballistec 1.3's and did you size-down on those?

Well, after playing in them a couple times today,I am glad I went 1/2 size down. Wore them with adidas team speed socks and Jordan gameday socks, which are the same as Nike elites. I don't think my normal size would be terribly loose, but the 1/2 size down isn't too tight, either,

I never wore the 1.3's extensively but I did own a pair and wore them in my natural size I believe.. maybe I'm wrong but it was too long ago. I am a 8.5 in 2k12's and have wore that size in the 2k11's and 2k10's.

I'm leaning towards buying a size 8...but I still feel like buying both would be the only way I can know for sure.

Have to revise my earlier opinion on sizing down. I ordered 1/2 size down and thought the length was okay, but found myself scrunching my toes on my right foot. So back to the ballistecs I go. Good thing I like Orange.

After only wearing these for a couple of hours, hope I can sell them.

^ Really? Oh god. ArliHawk so you don't recommend the .5 size down? I called TW and they were very clear to me when they told me that I should go down .5 from my 2k12 size.

I've used size 9.5 for the CB2.3, CB4.3, Vapor 9, Big Shots, Barricade 6 & 7.

I ordered the 9.5 for the Air Max Cage and found they're just a little longer in the toe area. Every where else in the shoe feels fine, but the there's like an extra .25'' extra just in the toe box. If I could downsize to 9.25'' I would. I use orthotics which help fill the inside of the shoe and I don't mind wearing 2 socks if I need.

It just didn't work for me. Everybody's feet are different. Went with Courtballistecs again, which fit my feet better.

Picked up a pair at my local tennis store for $90, I usually had 10.5's for the B6's and Nike Breathe Cage II's, but the first size i tried on was the 10 and it was nice and snug, actually a little too long in the toe box. Will be looking forward to wearing these to practice on tuesday!

Sad :(

I ordered them twice. First time, I had worn them less than a month and the air bubbles popped. TW sent me a replacement and they popped after one use. On the good side is TW was nice enough to replace both times. Nice looking shoe though.

One of my air bubbles popped as well. I wasn't even really that hard on them--played 2-3 times a week for 3 months. I only weigh 170lbs. I am at high altitude though. It's a bummer--I was really liking everything about the shoes.
