I've been playing with these for some time now and I think it's time for a review. I have the white/navy/gold colorway as pictured below.
BTW, I play exclusively on hard court
Scores are out of 10, 10 being awesome
Design/Looks/Fit: 9/10
Awesome looking shoe. I really like the cosmetic plus the color combination is nice (some of the newer colors don't look as nice to me).
The plastic piece (forgot what it is called but in the picture above, its the gold part around the heel) that wraps around the heel really does add some good heel support.
A very light shoe. The weight was hardly noticeable and did not drag me down at all.
The shoe is well built too. It doesn't fall apart or fray in any area.
The fit is a bit narrow but not I didn't find that a problem as my feet are kinda narrow but other might. It is nice and snug in the heel but the shoe widens up in the forefoot. I liked the fit a lot. The arch support is medium.
One thing I didn't like about the shoe is that it squeaks when you walk around. It goes away during play but its kinda annoying ahah. Was hoping that it would go away as time went on but it didn't really. Otherwise no complaints here.
Durability: 8/10
I thought, from reading other reviews, that these were not going to be very durable but it performed admirably in this category. I have had them for almost 3 months now and I've only begun to notice the shoe wear taking its toll on the shoe. Too bad it does not come with a durability guarantee but it was reasonably durable considering I play 3-4 hours a day, 4-5 times a week.
Ventilation: 9/10
The Vapors were pretty good in this area too. Nike has incorporated many little holes in the side plus a good amount of mesh to ensure these stay nice and airy.
Traction: 9.5/10
This is probably the shoe's strongest area. I could really rely on these shoes to make quick stops and starts without any problems at all. You can really hear these shoes squeaking (the good kind) against the court as you moved around. The traction only started to get worse once the shoe began to wear down. Now, I kinda slip and slide when I try to change directions very quickly but that is durability issue, not a traction one.
Comfort: 7.5/10
Here is where the Vapor Vs did not perform too well in. No problem with cushioning in the heel and they were comfortable for the first hour and a half or so. But after that, I could begin to really notice the lack of cushion in the forefoot. I guess with this shoe being very good in all other aspects, there is always a sacrifice that has to be made. One could always just add an insole to add some extra comfort
Stability: 9.25/10
Right behind traction. Very stable shoe, especially for such a light shoe. The plastic piece around the heel really did its job. Kinda like a built in ankle brace (albeit not as effective). The shoe, in order to maintain its light weight and good ventilation, is very flexible. To counter this, Nike has stiffened up certain parts of the shoe to add some stability. So despite its flexibility and light weight, this shoe is rock solid.
BOTTOM LINE:
Fantastic shoe. I can see why people call this the ultimate game day shoe. It makes a good practice shoe too. For 90 bucks on sale from TW, it's a great deal. Highly recommended for serious players who need a shoe that provides everything they need in a shoe for serious match play (minus a bit of comfort).
Definitely my favorite shoe but I want to try out some more shoes too. I think I will be trying the Nike Breathe Free 2s next. Or possibly the Cage 2s. Thanks for reading.
