Nike Cage 2--disappointed!

I tried the Nike Breathe Cage 2 and was very disappointed. For the record, I'm no Nike basher--I've been wearing Nike since the early 90's and have been a big fan of the Breathe IIs--have had many pairs of those and love 'em. I thought the Cage 1 was fine too, I could wear those happily, but the Breathe IIs are a little more roomy in the toe box which I like.

The Cage 2 seems to be built of the same last as the Cage 1, same snug fit in the toe box. But man are they STIFF! The Breathe IIs feel soft and comfortable right out of the box and same with Cages. But the Cage 2 is stiff and unyielding and uncomfortable. I notice the weight keeps sneaking up with each generation too.

I love the Breathe II but I would like to see an even lighter shoe on that last that is mostly mesh and very comfortable but even lighter. I'd trade a bit of support for even more flex in the sole and a sub 14 ounce weight. Is that so much to ask of Nike--certainly I think the new Cage is going the wrong direction...

Why don't you post this in the "read/add feedback" section of the product description? Then more people will know this. Thanks for the info. :)

I definitely think the BFII's had a softer outsole, and that it was great straight out of the box.

I think on the Cage II's the outsole compound is a lot harder, and I have found it to need some break in wear for both traction and comfort, but I don't think it's as good as the BFII's. I think it is a trade-off, as it does seem the new outsole will last a lot longer. Tough to say what you should get considering you get the warranty with both, but the BFII's don't look as good.

quality is in the details.. for example

no shoe lace eye hole on the tongue for the Breathe Cage to prevent the tongue from slipping

DETAILS.....

BFII superior in every way

SMU FOREVER!!!

did you find the shoe to have a low to ground feel with good stability?

It's the exact same midsole as the last cage but I felt stability was a little better because the rubber on the top was a little thicker than past models so I felt it secured my food better.

how long did they take to break in? I noticed that the cage takes considerably longer to break in than the vapor's do.

I actually haven't had a problem with break in at all. I played pretty hard for 1.5 hours tonight and they felt the same as my Cage I's that I've played in for months. The Cage II's are holding up real well to. I can tell they are going to last.

I have played with my Breathe Cage II's 5 times now, and they feel quite broken in. When I first tried them on, I agree that they are way too tight around the toes, but that gets pretty roomy after awhile, if you get what I'm saying.
