Nike eyelets and shoe laces worn out, advice?

The eyelets on several Nike shoes are made from fabric and I noticed that after about 6 months one of the eyelets will wear out and completely break. Here is a photo showing the problem

Both the fabric eyelet and the shoe lace are worn out. The shoes have another 2-3 months of use left, but after the fabric eyelets breaks I can't use them anymore. This happened on all four pairs of Nike shoes (two different models) and always at different eyelets (bottom and top). I suspect the laces rub against the fabric eyelet which results in both of them wearing out prematurely. I would like to prolong their life if I end up buying new models. What do you recommend I do to prevent this type of failure?

Try not to buy shoes with such a design. Cloth does not wear and there's nothing you can do short of punching holes for new laces. I had this problem so I no longer buy models with such a poor design. I look at the top of the shoe before spending my $$. You can also complain to the brand so that they stop using such a cheap design.

Last time this happened to me, I was wearing Nike Air Max Breathe 3's. I luckily worked with a seamstress at the time and she sewed new laceloops in for me.

Time for new shoes. How long did you have them? I know you say they got 2 to 3 more months left, but you didn't say howling you had them.

Not a great solution for tennis shoes with soft uppers (works better on something like hiking boots), but you could try drilling new holes into the upper. And maybe try piping a little super glue around the edges as reinforcement/protection, though that probably wouldn't last long. More of a last-ditch effort before you toss them.

Can try looking for a local shoe repair shop, or someone who is handy with sewing (like a dry cleaner or suit shop)

In the future if you must buy these types of shoes, you might consider buying brass eyelets or small metal rings to attach your laces too, which might help prolong the life by reducing the direct friction from the laces.

It really is crappy...there is no way a company like Nike doesn't realize cloth eyelets will wear down and wear the laces.
